Tim Petrovic preps for his second start of the season ahead of The RSM Classic.
Petrovic makes his way back to Sea Island Resort for a fourth look at the Seaside Course. The University of Hartford alum is 1-for-3 at this venue, with his only paycheck coming in the form of a T45 in his 2010 debut. Petrovic hasn't been able to string together solid rounds here, so perhaps the addition of the Plantation Course in the rotation will only help his case this week. Tue, Nov 17, 2015 08:38:00 AM

Tim Petrovic has gained entry into this week's Wyndham Championship.

Call it a 49th birthday present. He celebrated his "first" 49 on Sunday when he was fourth alternate at Sedgefield. After the first wave of changes, Petrovic slid into the field of 156 when Sean O'Hair withdrew and alternate Charlie Wi declined a spot in favor of the Tour this week. Petrovic is 194th in the FedExCup standings despite a playoff loss in Puerto Rico. He missed his next six cuts, and then placed 72nd in Reno. This will mark his 12th appearance in the Wyndham where he placed T2 in 2007 and has a pair of top 20s since. If you need a late flier in DFS or another format that will make room, give him a look.

Tim Petrovic hung up 11 points for his opening round of the Barracuda Championship.

It couldn't have started any better for the 48-year-old whose birthday is in 10 days. After lacing his drive 340 yards into the fairway at the par-4 first hole at Montrêux Golf and Country Club, Petrovic jarred his second from 144 yards for eagle and five points. He chased it with birdies at Nos. 2 and 3 to race out to nine points. Alas, the one-time PGA TOUR winner traded two birdies with two bogeys the rest of the way to collect only two more points, coming to rest three points of the early clubhouse lead.

Tim Petrovic preps for his sixth playing of the Barracuda Championship and enters the fray ranked 189th in the FedExCup standings.

Petrovic began the year No. 821 in the Official World Golf Ranking and currently sits No. 560, primarily on the heels of a runner-up finish at the Puerto Rico Open. It's his lone top 25 of the PGA TOUR season (on nine starts) and he's missed the cut in his last six events since the PRO. The 48-year-old sprinkled in a T48-T41-T14 stretch on the Tour, the latter coming at the Greater Dallas Open in early June. Petrovic celebrates his 49th birthday on the 16th of this month.

Tim Petrovic cracks this week's John Deere Classic field via Past Champions status and enters the week 182nd in the FedExCup standings.

Petrovic is 6-for-9 at TPC Deere Run with three top-25 finishes coming in successive years: T22/2007, T18/2008 and T5/2009. In his last three Deere's he's showing MC-T54-MC. The 48-year-old has cashed twice in seven events on his PGA TOUR season with one top 10, a T2 at the Puerto Rico Open, losing in a five-man playoff. He's missed his last four cuts since, with a cumulative score of 47-over-par. Petrovic has five starts on the Tour this year, collecting paychecks in four, including a season-best T14 at the Greater Dallas Open the first week of June. He ranks 133rd on that tour's money list with $14,461 in prize money. Petrovic has one win on the PGA TOUR (in 370 career starts) coming at the 2005 Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Tim Petrovic has gained entry into this week's AT&T Byron Nelson Championship.

Petrovic started the week as the 11th alternate, but finds himself with a tee time at TPC Four Seasons thanks to Jason Day's withdrawal. Petrovic lost in a playoff in Puerto Rico in early March, but he's just 170th in the FedExCup standings since the opposite events distribute a fraction of the usual points allocated. He hasn't cashed in this event since a T76/MDF in 2012 and hasn't broken 71 in his last six, competitive rounds on the course.

Tim Petrovic spun a bogey-free, 4-under-par 36-32=68 at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas, in the open qualifier for the Valero Texas Open, one swing too many to join the playoff for a spot in the tournament proper.

Ah, the fine line between losing in a playoff in Puerto Rico three weeks ago and not having full status on the PGA TOUR. Relegated to four-spotting again, Petrovic opened his inward nine in birdie-birdie-par-eagle, but settled for pars everywhere else. Other notables that failed to qualify include: 68--Vaughn Taylor; John Rollins ... 69--Oscar Fraustro; Steven Alker ... 70--Jonathan Randolph; Wil Collins ... 71--Roger Sloan ... 72--Heath Slocum; Omar Uresti; Kyle Thompson ... 73--Matt Bettencourt ... 74--Chris Smith ... 76--Whee Kim; Carlos Sainz, Jr.; Roberto Castro ... 79--Arjun Atwal.

Tim Petrovic has been added to the published field of this week's Valspar Championship.

Losing in any playoff stinks, but the consolation prizes include a boatload of FedExCup points, a six-figure payday and an exemption into the next open event. This is why Petrovic has slid into the field at Copperhead. He'll be making his 13th appearance on the track where he hasn't cashed since a T63 in 2010. A P2 at the Puerto Rico Open lifted the 48-year-old to 149th in the FedExCup standings in only three starts this season.

Tim Petrovic lapped Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico in 5-under-par 32-35=67 in today's final round of the Puerto Rico Open to post 7-under 281, and then lost in a five-way playoff to Alex Cejka.

Petrovic didn't grab our attention until today, but he was the first to set a target on Sunday. He opened with respective rounds of 75 and 71 to survive the cut on the number. Saturday's 68 positioned him for the opportunity to pounce today. And boy, did he. After opening birdie-birdie, the 48-year-old eagled the par-4 third hole to go 4-under after three holes. He'd trade a bogey at the par-4 10th with a birdie-3 at 13, and then close with a birdie at the par-5 18th. Alas, despite the return to 18 for the playoff, he settled for par before Cejka drilled home a birdie for the title. Petro's consolation is his first top 10 on the PGA TOUR since the 2013 Greenbrier Classic (T9). He last finished inside the top five at the 2012 Open where he shared runner-up honors.

Tim Petrovic has been removed from the published field of this week's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

This is a minor blow. He's not going to get many early starts on Past Champion status. Petrovic tied for 35th at the Sanderson Farms in his only previous start, so he laid the foundation. In his only action since, he posted a T54 at the Panama Claro Championship on the Tour.

Tim Petrovic's Past Champion status was good enough to get him into the field at the Sanderson Farms Championship this week.

He enjoyed 10 starts in 2013-14 with the same status, making four cuts and snaring one top-15 finish when he tied for 14th in Puerto Rico. Petrovic's lone PGA TOUR win came at the 2005 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Perhaps being at the Country Club of Jackson in nearby Jackson, Mississippi, will ignite a positive fire.

Tim Petrovic has been added to the published field of this week's Wyndham Championship.

Petrovic was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry following numerous withdrawals this morning. He made noise at the RBC Canadian Open before fading into a share of 43rd place, and then chased it with a T53 in Reno. Now 192nd in the FedExCup standings with four paydays in nine starts, and just 119th in Tour earnings, the one-time PGA TOUR winner's most realistic shot at regaining fully exempt status is via the Tour Finals.

Tim Petrovic took a step back with a 2-over-par 34-38=72, falling to 8-under 202 after 54 holes.

The overnight co-leader came out shaky, writing down a bogey-five on the first hole, but settled down nicely after that. He reached 11-under before finding a greenside bunker on the 11th and then again on the 13th, giving back a total of three shots on those holes. As the last man in the field, he has the be ecstatic to be entering Sunday inside the top 5 and just seven shots off the lead.

Overnight co-leader Tim Petrovic backed up his opening 64 with a 4-under-par 34-32=66 in the second round of the RBC Canadian Open to post 10-under 130, good for a share of the 36-hole clubhouse lead with Jim Furyk.

No letup for Petro, who went 7-for-8 in scrambling with a bogey-5 at the 18th hole today, his ninth of the round. He also rolled in five birdies, including conversions from 18'2" and 13'2" at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively. Perhaps the highlight of the bunch was an eight-yard hole-out from the rough at 15. And for good measure, he saved par from 40'7" at the par-3 fifth where he found a greenside bunker off the tee. Anything he does at this point is a bonus.

Tim Petrovic smoothed a bogey-free, 31-33=64 in his opening round of the RBC Canadian Open, good for a share of the overnight lead with Michael Putnam.

Petrovic was the last man in the field when Benjamin Alvarado withdrew on Wednesday. The American has been limited to seven starts this season due to Past Champion status, but he proved today that he needs only one to change everything. After opening with a standard-issue par at the par-4 first, he strung together birdies at 2, 3 and 4, the last disappearing from 59'5". He added a birdie from 11'7" at the par-3 seventh and an eagle-3 at 12 where he knocked his second to just 39 inches. This is Petro's lowest aggregate on the PGA TOUR since he closed out a T2 at the 2012 Open with the same.
