Jeff Sluman has withdrawn from the Shell Houston Open at Redstone Golf Club.
Sluman posted a first-round 77 and then withdrew before the end of the day. The reason given was a bad back. The soonest he could play again is the Verizon Heritage. Thu, Mar 29, 2007 08:17:00 PM

Jeff Sluman fired a 66 in the opening round of the Sony Open and is only three strokes back of leader Luke Donald.

Sluman, who turns 50 on Sept. 11, has won six PGA TOUR events including the 1988 PGA Championship. He'll play the regular tour this year, but plans to split his time next year with the Champions Tour.

Jeff Sluman and Hank Kuehne (-29) won the Franklin Templeton Shootout.

Sluman and Kuehne won by two shots over Flesch and Leonard. Sluman/Kuehne each took home $300K for their efforts.

Sluman (-7) has an unbelievable day in the final round.

Sluman had one of the best rounds ever in a final round. He had nine birdies and only one bogey for a final round 62. He jumped from a T59 all the way into the Top 10.

Sluman was all over the course. He only hit 44% of the greens in reg. He took 28 putts, which kept him from shooting a really big number.

After a great pair of rounds at the FBR and a spot near the top of the leaderboard, Sluman folded during the weekend. The 46 year-old shot a 71 Saturday followed by a 73 Sunday on his way to a disappointing 27th place finish.

Jeff will not play this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
