Wes Short, Jr. is listed in the published field of next week's Chiquita Classic on the Web.com Tour.

This contradicts a report we relayed on Thursday that he was going to return to PGA TOUR-sanctioned competition at the Miccosukee Championship on Oct. 11. However, if he does, indeed, play in North Carolina next week and then qualifies for the Web.com Tour Championship, he could give it a go in as many as five events on the developmental circuit, thus exhausting his maximum number of rehab starts allowed.

Wes Short, Jr. has circled the Miccosukee Championship on the Web.com Tour for his return to competition.

Short, Jr. has been sidelined since February 2009 due to a back injury. Today's report includes news that the one-time PGA TOUR winner also battled thyroid cancer (in 2011) for which he's treated today. The Miccosukee is the third-to-last event on the Web.com schedule, but he's expected to burn all five rehab starts on the secondary circuit; his plans may change, of course. Additionally, Short is going to give Q School a go as a safety net. He's exempt into the second stage as a past champion. Whenever he returns to the PGA TOUR, he'll have 12 starts on his Major Medical Extension to earn $743,061 and retain status.

Dr. Wehling's practice involves withdrawing blood from the patient, heating it, then spinning it and finally reinjecting it into the patient. Short, Jr. is a new client, and he hopes to return to competition if the process takes. "As much blood as they took the first day, I didn’t think I’d have any left," he said. He hasn't played the PGA TOUR since 2009 due to his injury, but still has 12 starts remaining on a Major Medical Extension to earn $743,061 and retain status. The 48-year-old has one victory on the PGA TOUR.
