Briny Baird is set for his 13th start of the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season at the RBC Heritage later this week.
Baird was a late scratch from the Shell Houston Open following his T46 at the Valero Texas Open, but it appears everything is in order for Harbour Town. That T46 at the VTO represents his best effort of 2014, but a strong start to his season late in 2013 still has him 68th in the FedExCup standings. He's made seven of his 10 cuts here, including a T2 in 2009. Apr 16 - 2:08 PM

Briny Baird has been removed from the published field of this week's Shell Houston Open.

He tied for 46th at TPC San Antonio on Sunday. It was his best finish (and only second payday) since a co-runner-up at The McGladrey Classic in November. Amazingly, despite the 2-for-9 run, he's still 63rd in FedExCup points.
Mar 31 - 11:46 AM

The opening round of the Valero Texas Open was delayed two-and-a-half hours until 10:00 a.m. CT due to fog.

There were nine delays since play was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. As a result, it's possible that the 36-hole cut will not fall by sunset on Friday. Today's afternoon wave is scheduled to begin at 2:50 p.m. Briny Baird went off the first tee this morning with Pat Perez and Will MacKenzie.
Mar 27 - 10:50 AM

Briny Baird has been removed from the published field of this week's Puerto Rico Open.

He's struggled considerably since his close call at The McGladrey Classic in November. Baird is 0-for-6 that include a withdrawal due to food poisoning at Pebble Beach. He also withdrew early from the Farmers Insurance Open.
Mar 3 - 10:39 AM

Briny Baird settled for a 3-over-par 40-34=74 in his opening round of the Northern Trust Open.

Scoring is always challenging at Riviera Country Club, but this round already puts him behind the eight ball to make the cut. Back in action following an illness at Pebble Beach a week ago, he hit only eight greens in regulation today and erased two birdies with five bogeys. His only notable conversion was a par save from 12'2" at the par-4 15th hole.
Feb 13 - 2:39 PM

Briny Baird withdrew from the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am before today's third round due to food poisoning.

He was scheduled to go off the 10th tee at Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course at 8:44 a.m. PT. At 10-over 81-73=154 through 36 holes, he may have needed to go sub-60 today just to survive the 54-hole cut. Instead, we'll monitor his commitment to next week's Northern Trust Open.
Feb 8 - 10:43 AM

Briny Baird has been removed from the published field of this week's Farmers Insurance Open.

He missed the cut at the Humana by six strokes to extend his drought to three straight starts since sharing runner-up honors at The McGladrey Classic. Baird's record at Torrey Pines is unimpressive at 3-for-10 with one top 35 (T4, 2003), so it could be a wise decision to wait for a venue historically more suited for his game. Remember, he's fully exempt after fulfilling the terms of his Major Medical Extension, so he can afford to sit out every now and then.
Jan 20 - 11:30 AM

Briny Baird returns to Waialae Country Club to try and claim the Sony Open title.

Baird has secured nine cuts in 11 tries in this event, so he has value to gamers in numerous formats. He's finished inside the top 10 on three occasions, but the most recent was a T5 in 2004. He nearly captured his breakthrough title at The McGladrey Classic, but came in second for his sixth runner-up in 366 starts.
Jan 7 - 9:13 PM

At even-par 73-69=142, Briny Baird will miss the cut at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba by one stroke.

This was likely more of a product of his spot in the early-late draw than any sort of letdown following Sunday's crushing defeat at Seaside. He circled nine birdies at El Camaleón this week but wiped them off with seven bogeys and a double. Baird landed only 22 greens in regulation, nine of which in his opening round. He concluded his second round bogey-par to clinch the trunk slam.

The opening round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba was suspended at 8:40 a.m. CT due to lightning in the area. UPDATE: Play is scheduled to resume at 11:00 a.m. CT.

The PGA TOUR's media page added the following to the tweet announcing the delay: "Players are being held in place with a quick restart expected." Briny Baird is not off to the fast start he projected. He's 2-over-par through six holes with four pars and two bogeys. Perhaps the break will allow him to regroup.

Briny Baird came up one stroke short of forcing a playoff at The McGladrey Classic, but his two-way T2 was worth enough to meet the remaining amount on his Major Medical Extension.

Baird all but sealed his fate at the par-4 18th hole at Sea Island's Seaside Course today. After pulling his drive into a fairway bunker, he appeared to cold-top his approach, easily finding the water hazard short and left of the green. He'd eventual pour in a putt for bogey from 25'4". While it wasn't for the win, it was a valuable conversion nonetheless as it secured a paycheck of $484,000.00. That's $54,976 more than what he needed to fulfill the terms of his Major Medical Extension (with 11 starts remaining). Therefore, Baird will play out of the first position in the MME category for the remainder of the 2013-14 season; unless, of course, he manages to break through for his first victory. Today marked his sixth runner-up finish in 365 career PGA TOUR starts.

Briny Baird shares the 54-hole lead at The McGladrey Classic following his 3-under-par 34-33=67 in the third round, moving to 10-under 200 for the tournament.

Baird is infamous for having earned the most money on the PGA TOUR without a victory, but he could remove that dubious distinction from his resume on Sunday. His round featured five birdies, including three in succession to end his day, to just a pair of bogeys. The blemishes were back-to-back on the ninth and 10th holes. He ranks 18th and strokes gained-putting but fourth in putting average, so he’s getting the ball in the hole when he finds the GIR.

Briny Baird chased his opening, bogey-free 63 at The McGladrey Classic with an even-par 37-33=70 in the second round to post 7-under 133, good for a share of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

He'll happily take the score given the conditions. Baird split 12 (of 14) fairways but landed only 11 greens in regulation. It led to four bogeys, but he answered with four birdies, including conversions from 37 feet and 15'2" at the third and sixth holes, respectively.

Briny Baird turned back the clock in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic, signing for a bogey-free, 7-under-par 32-31=63 to assume outright possession of the clubhouse lead.

Whoa. At this pace, he'll meet the terms of his Major Medical Extension ($429,024) this week. Baird split 10 (of 14) fairways and stood over 16 opportunities to break par. He did so six times, all for birdie, and added a 28-yard hole-out for birdie at the par-3 third. His longest conventional par breaker measured 20'2" at 16. Baird hasn't gone this low since the second round of the 2009 Canadian Open. He's 2-for-2 already this season in his full-time return from surgeries on both shoulders a year ago.
Thu, Nov 7, 2013 01:18:00 PM

Briny Baird completed 72 holes of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in 9-under-par 70-69-65-71=275, good for a share of 36th place worth $28,875.00.

He wasn't bogey-free in any round and he didn't do any spectacular, but he really can't be disappointed with how his return to competition has played out thus far. Now 2-for-2 on the season, he has 12 starts remaining on his Major Medical Extension to earn $429,024 and retain status. If you're already thinking about his goal to secure conditional status as a safety net, he's $255,809 short of that objective.
