After gaining entry into this week's Barbasol Championship as an alternate, Dean Wilson has decided not to compete.
Some alternates are easier to reach for confirmation that they'll play than others. Wilson rose into the bubble of 132 for the Barbasol on merit, but he's now one of at least 15 alternates who have turned down the opportunity to play. So, he'll remain at zero starts on the season. Dean Wilson is scheduled to compete at this week's Barbasol Championship.

He was seventh alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. His path to a tee time at Grand National's Lake Course was cleared by 11 withdrawals. The 45-year-old hasn't played the PGA TOUR since missing the cut at last year's Barracuda Championship, which was his only start of 2013-14. Wilson's lone PGA TOUR victory occurred in the same Modified Stableford Scoring system. It was at the 2006 INTERNATIONAL at which he emerged in a playoff over Tom Lehman.

Dean Wilson has been added to the published field of this week's Barracuda Championship.

The 44-year-old started the week as the 17th alternate. He gained entry when three turned away tee times today. He hasn't played a PGA TOUR-sanctioned event since last year's Barracuda. His only PGA TOUR title occurred at the 2006 INTERNATIONAL, which also used the Modified Stableford scoring system.

Dean Wilson totaled 10 points in his opening round of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Wilson is in the history books as the last champion of The INTERNATIONAL at Castle Pines. That was in 2006 when he defeated Tom Lehman for what remains Wilson's lone PGA TOUR victory. Of course, that defunct tournament in Colorado was the last to employ the Modified Stableford scoring system, which is in play this week at Montreux. Wilson converted six birdies again two bogeys to sit five points off the overnight lead.

Dean Wilson has been removed from the published field of this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.

Anytime he appears in a published field, this is the expectation. The one-time PGA TOUR winner tied for 59th at the Sony Open in his home state of Hawaii in his only start this season.

Dean Wilson has been removed as an alternate from the published field of this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

He started the week as the seventh alternate but had risen to first after Dustin Johnson withdrew. Wilson posted a T59 in his only start of the season at the Sony Open, so he'll continue to occupy a spot in the Beyond 150 Reshuffle for the remainder of the year. He wouldn't have fantasy value even if he played more often.

Dean Wilson has been added to the field of this week's Sony Open in Hawaii.

The PGA TOUR's media department reported this. Wilson is from Hawaii but he's only 3-for-10 at Waialae. His only top 40 occurred in his first trip in 2002. The one-time winner has zero fantasy value as he's stuck with Past Champion status.

Dean Wilson shot 1-over-par 70-75=145 at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic and will miss the cut.

Wilson was making the final start via his Minor Medical Extension this week, but he wound up with the same result as his first three. Today's round at Magnolia included four birdies, but he lost grip with three bogeys and two doubles. For the record, he finished $266,852 short of meeting the terms of the medical. He also fell short of the threshold for conditional status by $10,629. Minor Medicals do not carry over, so he would have forfeited the starts had he not burned them.

Dean Wilson completed 36 holes of The McGladrey Classic in 6-over-par 71-75=146, missing the cut by seven strokes.

It's not often that any touring professional totals 38 putts in a single round, but that's what Wilson's card reads today. For the tournament, he hit 27 greens but required 68 putts. It leaves him with one start on his Minor Medical Extension. That he's $266,852 short of meeting its terms is now irrelevant since there's only one event remaining and Minor Medicals don't carry over to the following season. However, for the record, he's 0-for-3 this year.

Dean Wilson carded a pair of even-par 71s at the Open, missing the cut on the number.

Wilson played in the late-early draw, but the cut line floated above and below his aggregate 142. Ultimately, 72 golfers managed to reach the midpoint in red numbers. He hit 25 greens at CordeValle but needed 61 putts. He's now 0-for-2 on the year. This leaves him with two starts on his Minor Medical Extension to earn $266,852 and a promotion to the Major Medical category. However, if he doesn't bank that amount at next week's McGladrey Classic, all the final start on his medical will grant him is a spot in the field at the season finale at Disney World in mid-November.

Dean Wilson followed his opening 71 at the Wyndham Championship with a 2-over-par 35-37=72 and will miss the cut.

Wilson converted on just one of 13 birdie chances today, taking 33 putts overall. With his 2012 debut in the books, he now has three starts remaining on his Minor Medical Extension to earn $266,852 and a promotion to the Major Medical category. However, for all intents and purposes, whatever playing time he schedules over the next three months will likely serve as a tune-up for Q School. Still, we'll continue to monitor his progress on the medical as usual.

Dean Wilson settled for a 1-over-par 36-35=71 in his opening round of the Wyndham Championship.

For the first time in seven commitments this year, the one-time PGA TOUR winner didn't withdraw early. For the record, he split 11 (of 14) fairways, hit 11 greens and needed 30 putts. He swallowed four bogeys but rolled in three birdies, including a gem from 37'10" at the par-3 12th hole.

Dean Wilson is listed in the published field of next week's Wyndham Championship.

Well, if this experience goes like the previous six this year, he'll withdraw prior to his tee time in the opening round. We continue to monitor his season since he has four starts on a Minor Medical Extension to earn $266,852 and retain status. However, Minor Medicals don't carry over to the ensuing season, so it's unclear why he continues to commit and withdraw early.
Fri, Aug 10, 2012 06:28:00 PM

Dean Wilson has been removed from the published field of this week's True South Classic.

He's made it 6-for-6 in early withdrawals this year. He still has four starts via a Minor Medical Extension if he wants them. Jay Delsing also withdrew as an alternate.

Dean Wilson is listed in the published field of next week's True South Classic.

Since he still has status via a Minor Medical Extension (affording four starts), we'll continue to follow. If you've been doing the same, then you already know that he's withdrawn early from all five previous commitments this season.
