Heath Slocum picked up a start in this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.
Playing with conditional status, Slocum is one of several players that had to choose between a start on the PGA TOUR or Web.com Tour this week. Given he ranks 182nd in the FedExCup standings and the top 200 earn a spot on the four-tournament quest for a 2013-2014 TOUR card, it's likely that his decision to try and pick up more points in Texas is the right call. He's only made two of seven cuts here, but both went for top 20s. May 14 - 11:27 PM

Heath Slocum will make his third PGA TOUR start of the year at the Valero Texas Open.

Slocum is playing with conditional status, but has made the most of his starts. He tied for 30th at Pebble Beach before sharing 50th in Puerto Rico. While he doesn’t have enough rounds to qualify, he would lead the PGA TOUR in driving accuracy and rank 26th in GIR. While TPC San Antonio generally favors accuracy, he’s missed the cut in his only trip to this venue.

Heath Slocum will make his first start of the 2013 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Though Slocum is a veteran of 332 PGA TOUR events and owns four wins, but finds himself in a conditional category. Like others in that classification, he must do everything he can to make the most of his limited opportunities. Fortunately, he's played the event each of the last three seasons, making two cuts but failing to crack the top 25 in either. He also had a missed cut way back in 2002.

Two years removed from his win at The McGladrey Classic, Heath Slocum is fighting for his PGA TOUR playing card at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

The four-time TOUR winner begins the final week of the 2012 season 141st on the money list with $518,198 in cash. While he appears to be a lock to finish in the 126-150 conditional category, he needs a big week if he hopes to set his schedule for 2013. He’s second in driving accuracy and 24th in GIR, but an abysmal 183rd in strokes gained-putting.

Heath Slocum returns to the site of his 2010 win at The McGladrey Classic, and needs another strong effort to improve from 140th on the money list to inside the top 125.

Slocum’s exemption via his 2010 win expires at the end of this season, so if he is to retain full status it will have to be thanks to a big week in one of the next two tournaments. He’s seen the weekend on 17 of 27 occasions, but owns just three top 25s. In his favor, he’s made six of his last seven cuts with matching T13s at the Justin Timberlake and the True South Classic. He ranks third in driving accuracy and 24th in GIR.

Heath Slocum signed for a 5-under-par 33-34=67 in the third round of the True South Classic and heads into the finale at 13-under 203.

Slocum circled eight birdies and squared three bogeys in his navigation of Annandale Golf Club. He hit an impressive 15 GIR and needed 29 putts to 1.533 average. His 81.5 percent GIR rank near the top of the field. He will attempt to claim his fifth PGA TOUR victory in the final round.

Heath Slocum is in the field of the AT&T National at Congressional in search of his first top 10 of 2012.

Slocum has made 10 (of 17) cuts this season, but has only a lone top 25 coming in the form of a T15 at last week's Travelers Championship. There could be some reason for optimism, as he posted a T11 in the 2011 U.S. Open contested at Congressional. In order to continue to build off of his best finish of the season, he will have to putt better than his 181st ranking in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Heath Slocum spun a bogey-free, 5-under-par 34-33=67 in his second round of the Wells Fargo Championship to reach the midpoint in 8-under 136, four strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Slocum isn't the world's greatest putter by any means, but he's showcased his talent on tracks where putting is at a premium. This includes victories at Liberty National and Seaside. Quail Hollow could be included on that list. His ticket this week has been loading up birdie opportunities. After hitting 15 greens in his opening-round 69, he hit all 18 today and converted on five of them. Three measured over 12 feet, the longest of which 19'8" at the seventh hole. He also negotiated a par save of 13'4" at the 17th hole to maintain a spotless card.

Heath Slocum signed for a 2-over-par 38-36=74 following his opening round of the Shell Houston Open.

We had our eyes on the veteran after he was bounced from the Transitions before his second round due to food poisoning. His tee-to-green game at Redstone was crisp (11 of 14 fairways, 14 greens) but he required 34 putts and managed just one birdie, and that needed to find the cup from 17'8" at the 17th hole. He missed all six of his attempts from inside 10 feet, three of which resulted in his only bogeys on the round.

Heath Slocum is listed in the published field of next week's Shell Houston Open.

Slocum was scratched prior to his second round of last week's Transitions due to food poisoning. He cashed in each of his previous five starts but didn't log a top 30. In his one appearance at Redstone's Tournament Course, he shared 58th place in 2009.

Heath Slocum withdrew prior to his second round of the Transitions Championship due to food poisoning.

Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman reported the specifics. (PGATOUR.com cited an "illness.") Slocum was due to go off the first tee at 1:12 p.m. ET today. He opened with a 2-under-par 34-35=69 on Thursday. His WD ends a modest consecutive cuts made streak at five. He didn't crack the top 30 in any.

Heath Slocum prepares to tackle the Transitions Championship off the confidence of five consecutive cuts made, but has yet to crack the top 30 in an event in 2012.

Straight as an arrow, Slocum leads the TOUR in driving accuracy and is 31st in GIR. The problems start when he misses the green as he ranks 176th in scrambling. Couple that with a total putting stat that leaves him 165th and the putter needs to improve if Slocum is to post a high finish.

Heath Slocum opened his title defense of The McGladrey Classic with an even-par 38-32=70.

Slocum has yet to post a top 10 anywhere in 30 starts since his victory at Seaside last year. Today's effort illustrated a microcosm of his season. Through his first four holes, he had already incurred a bogey and a double. And before making the turn, he had buried three par saves measuring over seven feet in length. It wasn't until he circled four birdies in a six-hole stretch to start his inward nine that things started looking up. Slocum is currently 119th in earnings but has no worries of losing his status by virtue of his win in the inaugural edition of this tournament.

Heath Slocum has been removed from the published field of this week's AT&T National.

Slocum posted top 20s the last two weeks to snap out of his funk. He closed out a T17 at the Travelers with a bogey-free, 3-under-par 67.

Heath Slocum blitzed TPC River Highlands for a 7-under-par 29-34=63 in his second round of the Travelers Championship.

Slocum is finally showing signs of life after a largely unproductive year. He's coming off a T11 at the U.S. Open, which is his best finish in 2011 and just his second top 25. Today's first nine featured an eagle-2 from 160 yards at the 17th hole and four birdies, including a chip-in from 14 yards at the 10th to kickstart his round. He's an aggregate 7-under 133 at the midpoint.
