Heath Slocum has been added to the published field of this week's Quicken Loans National.
Slocum was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to two withdrawals this morning. After opening the Travelers with a 4-under-par 66, he turned in progressively higher scores to drift into a five-way share of 46th place and remain outside the top 150 in both FedExCup points and earnings. Slocum placed T34 in his last trip to Congressional in 2012. Jun 23 - 10:59 AM

Heath Slocum opened the Travelers Championship with a 4-under-par 33-33=66, good for very early possession of the clubhouse lead.

Slocum went out in the first threesome off the first tee at TPC River Highlands this morning and promptly set the tone with a par save from 17'7" on the par 4. While it wasn't a red number, it perhaps sparked some momentum as he would go on to trade six birdies with two bogeys. Three of his conventional birdies dropped in from outside 11 feet, the longest measuring 36'8" at the par-3 16th. But Slocum also holed out for birdie from a greenside bunker 15 yards away at 5 and rolled in a zero-putt jobber from four yards at 6. He arrived in town sitting outside the top 150 in both FedExCup points and earnings. Today's score is his lowest on the PGA TOUR since a third-round 65 at Waialae over five months ago.
Jun 19 - 11:50 AM

Heath Slocum makes his 12th start in the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial after a one-year break.

Slocum played 11 consecutive CPIs before failing to qualify for the field last year. History hasn't been all that kind to him, as he's made just six of 11 cuts and doesn't have a top 25 on his resume. Since a T20 at the Sony Open in early January, he has missed seven of his nine cuts with nothing better than a T60 at Quail Hollow.
May 21 - 2:39 PM

Heath Slocum makes his third start at TPC Louisiana in this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Slocum got off to a very nice start to the season with three top-40 finishes in his first five starts, but you can now see his comeback season fading away. The grad sits at 24th in the reshuffle and 158th in the FedExCup standings. He will attempt to improve on his 0-for-2 TPC Louisiana record this week.
Apr 22 - 10:23 AM

Heath Slocum submitted a 2-under-par 36-34=70 for his opening round of the Valero Texas Open.

Just 4-for-9 on the season and 145th in the FedExCup standings, Slocum doesn't shape up as a viable fantasy investment. Toss into the mix that his scoring average among four rounds at TPC San Antonio was 77.75 (with no lower than a 74) and he qualifies as a mild surprise today. He split 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 14 greens in regulation, picking off three birdies against a three-putt bogey from 28'7" at the par-3 13th hole. His longest conversion went for birdie from 11'9" at the par-5 18th hole -- his ninth of the round -- but he also poured in a par save from 11'4" at 11. Slocum is two strokes off the clubhouse lead.
Mar 27 - 8:39 PM

Heath Slocum will join the field at the Valero Texas Open for the third consecutive year.

Slocum is 0-for-2 at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio but that won't stop him from trying again. He is only $11,604 shy of doubling his entire 2013 PGA TOUR earnings, so it's been a nice comeback campaign thus far despite missing more cuts than he's made (five MCs in nine starts). He's currently 124th in the FedExCup standings.
Mar 24 - 11:34 PM

Heath Slocum has gained entry into this week's Honda Classic.

Slocum started the week as the fifth alternate. He climbed into the field of 144 when Louis Oosthuizen withdrew. The American has missed his last three cuts and didn't break par in any of his last seven rounds. He's 2-for-5 at PGA National but neither payday was as a result of a top 40.
Feb 26 - 2:31 PM

Heath Slocum has made three of his last four cuts in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and is back for another dose this week.

Slocum's first trip to Pebble Beach Golf Links was in 2002, missing the cut badly. He didn't return until 2010, but has enjoyed a modicum of success since. He had tied for 30th, 35th and 40th to go with a missed cut. Perhaps a 25th or a 45th is in line this week.
Feb 5 - 8:34 PM

Heath Slocum is off and running in 2013-14 in what could become a career revitalization.

Slocum was not fully exempt in 2013 and was forced to play out of the 126-150 category thanks to his position on the 2012 money list. Since he picked his card back up via the Tour Finals, he is subject to the reshuffle. Perhaps the sense of urgency has set in, as he has already made more money in four starts this season with $104,250 than he did in nine starts last season. His T16 at The McGladrey Classic was his best finish since a T13 in the 2012 Shriners at TPC Summerlin.

Heath Slocum posted a 3-under-par 32-35=67 in his opening round of The McGladrey Classic.

Slocum's most recent of four PGA TOUR victories occurred in the inaugural edition of this tournament in 2010. Now fully exempt on the circuit again (via the Tour Finals), he's just 1-for-2 with a T40 at CordeValle, but today's effort could kick-start an enjoyable holiday break that begins in two weeks. He hit 14 greens in regulation and buried six birdies, five of which ranging from 11'11"-17'10", but squared three bogeys and missed four putts inside nine feet. The net result was a strokes gained-putting split just north of 0.170 at the time he signed his card sitting four strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Heath Slocum spun a bogey-free, 6-under-par 35-30=65 in his opening round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Slocum put on a clinic at TPC Summerlin today. He split 11 (of 14) fairways, hit 16 greens in regulation and converted six birdies. The set included conversions from 12'5" and 17'7" at the second and eighth holes, respectively. He's the classic example of a veteran that took advantage of the new qualifying process to regain his fully exempt status. He went just 6-for-9 on the 2013 PGA TOUR with no better than a T30, but he finished just inside the top 200 in FedExCup points to earn a spot in the Tour Finals. Slocum opened the four-event series with a missed cut but chased it a top 10 and a pair of top 20s to secure the 17th seed in the opening reshuffle. He then tied for 40th at last week's Open to begin contributing immediately to his bank before the first reshuffle occurs following the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Heath Slocum takes on CordeValle Golf Club for the third time in the Open.

In his first two trips to the current venue, Slocum tied for 42nd in 2011 and 47th in 2012. After having lost his fully-exempt status, he spent much of 2013 on the Tour and was rewarded with a 2013-14 PGA TOUR card. He should get plenty of early starts by virtue of his 17th spot in the Tour graduate reshuffle.

Heath Slocum has been bumped to first alternate for this week's Greenbrier Classic.

Slocum, who has conditional status in 2013, was the last man in the field on merit when it was released on Friday afternoon. He was elbowed out when Jordan Spieth finished sixth at the AT&T National to earn a top-10 exemption into Greenbrier. Since Spieth doesn't need the sponsor exemption, the tournament will give it to a different golfer.

Heath Slocum has been added to the published field of this week's Travelers Championship.

Slocum was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon, but he gained entry on a sponsor exemption. He's 7-for-8 at TPC River Highlands with five top 25s, including in each of the last two editions. He's been limited to five starts this season due to conditional status. He's missed his last three cuts.

Heath Slocum completed the 36-hole U.S. Open sectional qualifier at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga., in even-par 72-72=144, nine strokes too high to force a playoff for a berth into the major.

Slocum was one of a very small handful of recognizable names at this site. Billy Andrade also fell short at 3-under 70-71=141, and Andrew McLardy withdrew after four holes in his second round. The former PGA TOUR member from South Africa was 4-over through 22 holes. Ryan Nelson and amateur Michael Kim shared medalist honors at 11-under 133. Nelson circled an eagle and 11 birdies; he was bogey-free in his second-round 65. Kim, who plays collegiately at the University of California-Berkeley and ranks ninth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, signed for respective rounds of 67 and 66. He buried an eagle (on the par-4 sixth hole in the opener) and 11 birdies. Amateur Grayson Murray snared the third of three spots available at 9-under 69-66=135. He converted an eagle and 10 birdies against one bogey and a double. Murray transferred to East Carolina University from Wake Forest in advance of the spring term.
