Davis Love III has opted out of this week's Quicken Loans National.
DL3 was one of eight in the originally published field who competed in the 2005 Presidents Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, which debuts as host of the QLN. The Life Member is 6-for-14 this season and ranks 184th in the FedExCup standings. Jul 27 - 12:03 PM

Davis Love III has decided not to tee it up at this week's John Deere Classic.

It's too bad as he may have been a source of cheap points this week. DL3 has cashed in six consecutive starts at TPC Deere Run dating back to 2003. He's currently 179th in the FedExCup standings. As a Life Member, he doesn't have to worry about retaining status, but the 51-year-old could feel the tug of a busier schedule on the Champions Tour at some point.
Jul 7 - 10:12 AM

Davis Love III contests his 13th FedEx St. Jude Classic and arrives ranked 170th in the FedExCup standings.

Love III was T5 (4-under-par) after 36 holes in 2013 and T8 (5-under) after 36 in 2014. On each occasion however, he posted 1-over 71s in the third round and faded to finishes of T18 and T43 respectively. Overall, he's 9-for-12 at TPC Southwind with three top 10s, including T3 in 2012 and T4 in 2005. The 51-year-old is still mainly playing the PGA TOUR, last teeing it up with the flat bellies at the wind-swept Valero Texas Open for T44. In total, he's registered one top 10 (T8, CIMB Classic) in 10 starts on the younger circuit. DL3 has made two starts on the Champions Tour in 2015, including a T5-finish at last week's Principal Charity Classic. His last win on the PGA TOUR (his 20th) came in 2008 at the Children's Miracle Network Classic.

Davis Love III makes his way back to Bay Hill Club and Lodge for his 25th start at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Love III has favorable course history at Bay Hill but it's hard to find a location where he doesn't. More important in this case is his current form as he's collected just one top 10 in his last 35 starts. Gamers may want to take a chance base on his course history and 19th ranked GIR percentage, but the most likely scenario is a finish near the middle of the leaderboard.
Mar 18 - 6:44 PM

Davis Love III will be announced on Tuesday as the captain for the United States squad at the 2016 Ryder Cup, according to Golf Channel's Tim Rosaforte.

Love III garnered our attention this morning as a late entry into the Northern Trust Open, so perhaps that decision was prompted by today's news. His attendance at Riviera Country Club will give him a platform to accept the nomination and answer questions. DL3 was the captain at Medinah in 2012 when Europe stormed back from a 10-6 deficit in Sunday singles. He's extremely well connected and respected, not to mention still an active competitor on the PGA TOUR as a Life Member. The 2016 Ryder Cup will be contested at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
Feb 16 - 6:17 PM

Davis Love III has been added to the published field of this week's Northern Trust Open.

DL3 was a late entry into the tournament. He's coming off a T65/MDF at Pebble Beach and sits 132nd in the FedExCup standings. The 50-year-old has four top 10s in 14 appearances at Riviera Country Club, but the last occurred way back in 2001.
Feb 16 - 11:04 AM

Davis Love III turns his attention to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am this week.

Love III has twice hoisted the hardware at Pebble Beach, with the most recent coming in 2003. While he missed the cut last year, he managed a T20 in 2012. Following a T8 in the CIMB Classic, he has missed his last three cuts.
Feb 11 - 8:53 PM

Davis Love III returns to one of his favorite venues this week at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

DL3 is a legitimate course horse at Waialae Country Club with a 10-for-14 record that includes seven top 10s. On the flip side, he has missed the cut in his last two visits, and didn't tee it up here last year. Love III went the entire 2013-14 season without a top 25 but he's already secured a top 10 this season at the CIMB Classic. He may be past his prime but this is one of the few events where he should be on the radar for salary-cap gamers.
Jan 12 - 9:31 PM

Davis Love III carded a 5-under-par 34-32=66 in his opening round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, finishing one stroke off the clubhouse lead.

DL3's recent whirlwind yielded a closing 66 at The McGladrey Classic, which he hosts, and a T8 at the CIMB Classic immediately after he put his tournament to bed. After taking last week off, he got after it again today in México. He traded six birdies with one bogey. Overall Love III split 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 13 greens in regulation. He's shaping up to be a nice pickup in any format if he's even still available.

Davis Love III put a bow on the CIMB Classic in the form of a bogey-free, 4-under-par 32-36=68.

Love III sunk all four of today's birdies by the eighth hole. He played his last 29 holes in bogey-free 6-under. He shares the 72-hole clubhouse lead at 10-under 278, good for a share of eighth place on the leaderboard. It'll be his first top 25 in 30 PGA TOUR starts. His last was a T9 at the 2013 Greenbrier Classic.

Davis Love III answered his opening 68 at the CIMB Classic with a 1-under-par 37-34=71 in the second round to post 5-under 139 at the break, five strokes off the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

DL3 started on the par-5 10th hole today and opened par-bogey-par-bogey to chop half of Thursday's work away. However, he regrouped to play out the string in bogey-free 3-under that included a birdie-2 on his penultimate hole to sneak under par. Anything he gives us is a bonus, but his rhetoric seems to suggest that he feels that he's more than just a token Life Member out there. So far in Malaysia, his execution is supporting that belief.
Fri, Oct 31, 2014 01:01:00 AM

Davis Love III submitted a 4-under-par 33-35=68 for his opening round of the CIMB Classic to position himself three strokes off the overnight lead.

Oh, to be this spry at 50. He hosted last week's McGladrey Classic where he tied for 41st place with a closing 66. Sea Island is literally on the opposite side of the planet give its 12-hour time difference, but DL3 answered the bell. He converted an eagle-3 at the 10th hole and complemented it with four birdies. A pair of bogeys on his inward nine won't spoil the week.
Thu, Oct 30, 2014 12:40:00 PM

Davis Love III concluded his third payday in five starts at The McGladrey Classic with a 4-under-par 32-34=66 to post 5-under 275.

Love III hosts this tournament. That would be enough of a distraction for anyone, much less a guy competing in it and at the age of 50 to boot. Yet, he showcased vintage form today at Seaside by going 5-for-16 in birdie chances to offset a three-putt bogey at the par-4 14th hole. DL3's longest birdie dropped in from 20-and-a-half feet at the par-4 10th. And forget about a week off now, too. The Life Member of the PGA TOUR is headed to Malaysia for his debut at this week's CIMB Classic.
Sun, Oct 26, 2014 01:21:00 PM

Davis Love III will start the 2014-15 season at Silverado Resort and Spa for the Open.

DL3 didn't crack the top 125 mark in the final FEC standings last season, missing out on the Playoffs, but remains exempt through lifetime member status. He's coming off a strange season where he posted a 15-for-22 record, but failed to land inside the top 25. It was the first time since 1985 that Love III failed to secure a top 10 in a season, let alone a top 25. He's still competing admirably at the age of 50, but his upside has clearly been limited. Gamers should take note and plan accordingly.

Davis Love III shared a piece of ninth place in the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club and returns this week for another crack at it.

DL3 is 15-for-20 on the season, but no finishes better than his T26 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He's posted two or more top 25s every year for the last 28 years. An optimist might look at that and suggest he's due for a top 25 while the pessimist will say that injuries have finally caught up with Love III, and he doesn't have the upside at this point in his career. You can decide which side of the fence you sit on, but Love III should only be considered for the deepest of formats this week.
