Returning from a collarbone injury, Davis Love III survived round two of the Shell Houston Open with an even-par 33-39=72, posting a two-day tally of 1-under 143 to make it through the cut in his first tournament back in action.
DL3 has been on the shelf since a snowboarding accident in January, making this his first PGA TOUR start since The RSM Classic in November. He earned a spot to play over the weekend, but fatigue certainly showed its face today. After racing out to 5-under-par through 28 holes this week, he ended his day with bogeys on four of the last five holes. The final putt couldn't come fast enough for the 2016 Ryder Cup Captain who can now regroup ahead of the weekend. Despite making the cut this week, it hasn't been flashy as he currently ranks T119 in total birdies this week (4), although he also boasts an eagle on his resume. It's tough to continually avoid bogeys at the Golf Club of Houston so he'll need to start circling some birdies if he wants to rise up the leaderboard this weekend. Mar 31 - 7:04 PM

Recent Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III returns from a 27-week injury absence as he preps for this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. UPDATE: Love III finished T41 on 8-under 276 (68-70-68-70).

DL3 underwent surgery for a torn left hip labrum back at the end of June. His last start came at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational where he opened with an 8-over 78 before backing out of the event. Love III picked a good event to return to, as he owns a 19-for-22 record here in Las Vegas, including a 12-pack of top 25s. Unfortunately, his most recent top 25 here came back in 2008 (T6). The 52-year-old has proven he can still hang with the young guns, but gamers should wait to see some form before investing.

U.S. Captain Davis Love III returned from a heartbreaking loss in 2012 at Medinah CC to lead Team USA to a 17-11 thumping of Team Europe in the 41st Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Love III was the skipper at the 2012 edition where the U.S. led by 4 points (10-6) heading into Sunday Singles, only to watch the Europeans storm back with 8.5 points (versus 3.5 points) to retain the Cup 14.5 to 13.5. Martin Kaymer won the decisive point in 2012 with a 1UP win over this year's Vice-Captain Steve Stricker, and Francesco Molinari halved his match with 2016 Vice-Captain Tiger Woods for the final margin. Love III, 52 years of age, captained this year's 12-man squad to 3 wins in the 5 sessions, including a 4-0 lead after Friday AM foursomes, and a 3.0-to-1.0-point win in Saturday PM four-balls to give the U.S. a 3-point lead (9.5 to 6.5) heading into Sunday Singles, which Team USA won 7.5 to 4.5. The Americans won seven (of 12) matches on Sunday, highlighted by Patrick Reed (3-1-1 record) taking down Rory McIlroy 1UP in the lead-off match, and final Captain's Pick Ryan Moore (2-1-0) winning the clinching point with a 1UP win over Lee Westwood.

Davis Love III withdrew from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational following an 8-over-par 37-41=78 opening round. Update: Love III announced he will be out for the remainder of the season as he opts for hip surgery to repair a torn left hip labrum.

DL3 was making his first start at Firestone Country Club since 2009, entering the week with top 20s in 9-of-10 starts at this venue. He opened with back-to-back birdies and looked to be on his way to another strong finish. That is where the fun stopped as he split just two more fairways and found just two more greens in regulation over his final 16 holes. He lost 6.82 strokes tee-to-green, leading to six pars and 10 bogeys. The U.S. Ryder Cup Team captain has now withdrawn from two events this year and 11 total in his career. Love III is scheduled to undergo hip surgery on July 6th.

Prior to his second round tee time, Davis Love III has withdrawn from this week's Memorial, citing a hip injury. UPDATE: Love III returned to action June 23rd at the Quicken Loans National and at 6-over 73-75=148, missed the cut by six strokes.

DL3 had a 1:27 p.m. tee time today, but won't be making that. He opened the week with four bogeys, two birdies, and a double in round one, on his way to a 4-over-par 38-38=76. This will be just the 10th mid-tournament WD in his career which now entails 731 starts. There is no word on the severity of this hip issue, so gamers should keep a close eye on the situation if they own DL3 in season-long formats.

Davis Love III tacked on a 1-under-par 34-35=69 in round two of The Honda Classic for a 36-hole total of even-par 140, up 18 places on the live leaderboard to T22.

The U.S. Ryder Cup Team captain -- who hosted a dinner of U.S. hopefuls on Thursday night -- got a first-hand look at two more-than-probable competitors paired the first two days with Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia. While Fowler and Garcia were the higher-profile players of the marquee threesome and are currently at (or near) the top of the leaderboard, DL3 is holding his own. The 51-year-old, who carved out a first-round 1-over 71, hung up a four-birdie three-bogey effort on day two. He improved to six (of 14) fairways and 12 greens in regulation and secured his 19th made cut in the tourney in 20 appearances.

Davis Love III preps for his 20th appearance at this week's Honda Classic.

DL3 is no stranger to this event and this course. He's missed the cut just once in 19 tries, finishing top 25 in nine of those starts. Since the move to PGA National in 2007, he's submitted five top 30s in seven starts. Add in his recent play, earning a paycheck in all five starts this season, and Love III starts to look like a very interesting sleeper in fantasy games this week.

All three players over 50 years of age at this week's Sony Open in Hawaii made the 36-hole cut, but Davis Love III is the only one of the three to not have a Sunday tee time, exiting his 16th appearance with a 1-over-par 34-37=71 in the third round and a 54-hole aggregate of 3-under 207.

The 51-year-old was one of 19 players at T47 after 36 holes, one inside the cut line, but 22 players were at T66, so a second cut of low 70 and ties was required after 54 holes. Joining DL3 on the bench for Sunday: 207--Colt Knost; David Hearn; Bronson Burgoon ... 208--Derek Fathauer; Peter Malnati ... 209--Satoshi Kodaira; Cameron Smith; Pat Perez ... 210--Whee Kim; Ryo Ishikawa; Jim Herman ... 213--Steven Bowditch.

Davis Love III is back at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and checks into the Kapalua Resort via his improbable come-from-behind win at the regular-season ending Wyndham Championship in August.

DL3's win at the Wyndham was his first since 2008 at Disney. He's played in four events post-Sedgefield, cashing three times, but nothing better than T33 at The RSM Classic where he also served as host. The 21-time PGA TOUR winner is a past champion of this event taking the 1993 version at La Costa CC in Carlsbad, California. In total, this week marks his 14th playing of the winners-only tournament, sixth at the current venue, and first since a T2 in 2009. The 51-year-old is the elder statesman on Maui this week, six-plus years senior to 45-year-old Alex Cejka.

Davis Love III continues his victory lap around the PGA TOUR as we head into the new year.

DL3 was just treading above water before his out-of-the-blue victory at the Wyndham Championship. The 21-time PGA TOUR champ has just four top 25s since the start of the 2013 season. During that stretch he's posted a 32-for-57 record which paints a great picture of his consistent mediocrity these days. Gamers can give him a look on weeks that feature a favorable course, but he's no longer the fantasy workhorse he once was.

Davis Love III has been removed from the published field of this week's OHL Classic at Mayakoba. UPDATE: According to Rex Hoggard at, DL3 withdrew from the tournament to be with his mom, who had a mild stroke on Monday.

In his only payday of 2015-16, he finished T73/MDF at the Shriners. While he's fully and a recent winner on TOUR (Wyndham), it's reasonable to expect the 51-year-old to curtail his schedule a bit given his responsibilities as Ryder Cup captain for the United States. Until then, he'll host next week's RSM Classic at home in Saint Simons Island, Georgia.

Davis Love III begins his 31st season on the PGA TOUR at this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.

Love III fired a first-round 64 at the regular-season ending Wyndham Championship back in August and book-ended another 64 on Sunday to win his 21st TOUR title at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 10 days. The unexpected win came in his 716th career start and came seven years after his last victory at the 2008 Children's Miracle Network Classic. DL3 is not the oldest player in the field this week, that would be Vijay Singh, but at 51 years of age, he still ranks inside the top 140 in the Official World Golf Ranking. After bowing out of the FedExCup Playoffs following a T44 at the Deutsche Bank, the 2016 Ryder Cup boss posted another T44, this one in a rare start on the Champions Tour at the Nature Valley First Tee Open in late September.

Davis Love III missed the cut at last week's Barclays but looks to rebound at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts.

DL3 fell flat last week, just days after his victory at the Wyndham Championship. A winning hangover was to be expected as it was his first trip to the winner's circle since the 2008 season. The PGA TOUR veteran was just 186th in the FedExCup prior to the big win. He's enters TPC Boston ranked 90th in FEC points and should not be relied upon in most fantasy formats.

Two-time Wyndham Championship winner Davis Love III turned back the clock with a 6-under-par 31-33=64 in today's finale of the tournament to snare his first title at Sedgefield Country Club with a winning score of 17-under 263, one shot clear of runner-up Jason Gore.

Both of DL3's previous titles occurred at Forest Oaks Country Club (1992, 2006). He began the day in his native North Carolina at 11-under and four back of Gore. Playing seven groups ahead of the lead pairing, Love III rode eagles on both of the par 5s to catapult up the leaderboard. His 3 at No. 5 came during a 6-under stretch in five holes and was augmented with birdies on Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 6. Before and after the run, he book-ended bogeys at the first and the seventh. Love III's eagle at 15 was his only par breaker on his inward half, but it was huge. It all but clinched his 21st PGA TOUR title and first since the 2008 Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. He also becomes the third-oldest winner in TOUR history and first grandfather to win since Ángel Cabrera (2014 Greenbrier). Additionally, DL3 earns his first trip to the Masters since 2011 and returns to to the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time since 2012.

Davis Love III chased his opening 64 at the Wyndham Championship with a 4-under-par 31-35=66 in today's second round and owns outright possession of the 36-hole clubhouse lead at 10-under 130.

DL3 landed 14 greens in regulation and dropped one shot again today, but he rallied for five birdies, all on his first eight holes. Respective conversions from 17'9", 22'11" and 27'1" at Nos. 11, 13 and 17 sparked the performance. He also knocked in a par save from 13'4" at the par-4 18th. At last check, his strokes gained: putting for the round measured a glowing 4.083. Despite his success in the tournament (at Forest Oaks Country Club), Love III obviously isn't done populating leaderboards. It was just last fall that he tied for eighth at the CIMB Classic, so when the conditions are right, he's a youthful 51 years old. He's also notorious for being a staunch competitor, which never hurts at any age.
