Davis Love III will return to Hilton Head Island for this week's RBC Heritage after a two year recess.
Love III had teed it up in 26 consecutive RBC Heritage running's before having to miss the 2012 Heritage due to a cracked rib. The five-time winner at Harbour Town is the on top of the tournament's all-time earnings list, but he hasn't cracked a top 10 here since 2005. DL3 is still looking for his first top 25 of the season. Davis Love III carded a 3-under-par 32-37=69 in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to join Graeme McDowell at 4-under 212.

Love III was hot early, with birdies on four of his first five holes at Bay Hill. The wheels would wobble after the turn, giving back bogeys on 10, 12 and 14 before righting the ship with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 16th and a 25-foot birdie on the par-3 17th. Though he's made his last three cuts, DL3 hasn't been in contention at all in 2013-14. His best finish was a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. He stands an excellent chance to raise that bar in Sunday's finale.

Davis Love III is a two-time winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and returns for the 27th time this week.

DL3 tied for fourth here in 2007, but hasn't sniffed a top 10 at Pebble since. He's made four of six cuts to start the 2013-14 season, with his best a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. It's stating the obvious to say that he's well past his prime, but if there is a week out there where he could catch lightening in a bottle, this could be it.

Davis Love III will hit the magic number of 50 during the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season, but he is not expected to spend much time on the Champions Tour just yet.

After making just 15 starts in 2013, he already has four under his belt this season. Though he's made three cuts, his best finish was merely a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. A popular question being flung his way during the last 12 months has centered around his playing plans when April 13 rolls around. The consistent answer has been that he still considers himself a competitive PGA TOUR player and he has no immediate plans to drop starts with the flatbellies to play on the Champions Tour. Still, his fantasy value is no longer elite.

Davis Love III has added the OHL Classic at Mayakoba to his schedule for the first time in his career.

A week after serving as the tournament host in Sea Island, DL3 will take his game to El Camaleón Golf Club in search of a nice week before the holiday break. He's made two of his three cuts in the 2013-14 season, with T62s at both the Frys.com Open and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Couple those low finishes with a missed cut in last week's home game, and he's not all that appealing of an option this week.

A week after serving as a co-captain at the Presidents Cup, Davis Love III will play the Frys.com Open.

No word yet on if DL3 will have any squirrels in his pocket as he returns to CordeValle Golf Club where he tied for 35th in his first trip to the venue last season. He is a Life Member of the PGA TOUR, so he's one of the precious few that never have to worry about status.

Davis Love III turned in a 3-under-par 33-34=67 in the final round of The Greenbrier Classic and his 8-under 272 final tally has him in line for his first top 15 of the year.

DL3 circled four birdies to just one bogey in his final round, missing just one fairway and two GIR in what was an excellent display of ball-striking. His best finish of the season up until this point was a T18 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. While the leaders are still on the outward nine, it looks like a certainty that he will eclipse that this week.

Davis Love III was charging up the leaderboard at the start of his opening round at The Greenbrier Classic, then settled for a 3-under-par 32-35=67.

DL3 began his day on the back nine, circling five birdies to just one bogey on the inward nine at The Old White TPC. He added a sixth birdie at the par-4 first, but leaked oil with two bogeys the rest of the way. After pulling out of AT&T National with a hip injury following a first-round 83, gamers can rest assured that his health is fine.

Davis Love III is listed in the published field of next week's Greenbrier Classic.

This will depend on his hip given he called it quits after an opening 83 at Congressional this week. Love III is 2-for-3 at The Old White TPC with a T17 last year.

Davis Love III withdrew following his opening round of the AT&T National due to a hip injury.

DL3 shot a 12-over-par 39-44=83 that included 10 bogeys and one triple against one birdie. He had neck surgery in February, so this is a different malady.

Overnight co-leader Davis Love III followed his opening 66 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic with an even-par 36-34=70 to post 4-under 136 at the midpoint, good for very early possession of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

His lead won't hold as Harris English is tearing up TPC Southwind today, but Love III will remain in the mix entering the weekend. He offset four birdies, the longest of which just 10'10" at the 13th hole, with two bogeys and a double. He saved his most impressive approach shot for his last hole of the day. After finding rough left of the fairway at the par-4 ninth, he stuck his second to one inch for the easy birdie.

Davis Love III circled seven birdies in his opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic en route to a 4-under-par 33-33=66, good for a piece of the clubhouse lead.

DL3 went 7-for-13 in birdie opportunities today to offset three bogeys. While he rolled in a birdie from 10'1" at the fourth hole, the highlight was a 32'8" conversion at 10. He was the third to sign for a 66. It's his lowest aggregate since last year's McGladrey Classic. The SJC is just his seventh start of the season since he sat out three months after having neck surgery in February.

Davis Love III resumed his playing career with a 2-under-par 36-34=70 in his opening round of THE PLAYERS.

In what was his first live action since having neck surgery on Feb. 8, DL3 split seven (of 14) fairways and hit just 10 greens in regulation but managed to offset three bogeys with five birdies. His longest of the set fell in form 18 feet at 18, but he also converted a par attempt from 17'2" at the par-5 16th.

Davis Love III is listed in the published field of next week's PLAYERS.

DL3 had hoped to return to competition at this week's stop in Charlotte, but opted to wait until the PGA TOUR's flagship event at TPC Sawgrass. He's been outside ropes since withdrawing from the WM Phoenix Open on Feb. 1 with an injury to his neck. He underwent surgery seven days later. Although he's a two-time winner of THE PLAYERS (1992, 2003) and he's fared well at the event of late (T4, 2010; T12, 2011), give him a little time to shed the rust before considering him as a viable investment. Remember, he just turned 49 years old.

Davis Love III is not listed in the published field of next week's Wells Fargo Championship.

Love III has been sidelined since having neck surgery on Feb. 8. He had hoped to return this month. Earlier today, he alerted his followers on Twitter that he was going to test his body to determine if he'd be a go at Quail Hollow, writing: "Playing with @ZachJohnsonPGA and Mark Love today trying to see if I am ready for Charlotte next week!" Alas, he's not ready. DL3 is 0-for-3 this season. He turned 49 years of age on April 13. Consider him a question mark for THE PLAYERS on May 9-12.
