Life Member and World No. 780 Davis Love III withdrew prior to the second round of the Wells Fargo Championship.
As of press time, no reason has been furnished for the Hall of Famer's exit, though he did have hip-replacement surgery last November. This is his 12th mid-tourney WD in 754 events, first since the 2016 WGC-Bridgestone. The North Carolina native and University of North Carolina product opened with a one-birdie, 7-over-par 78. Davis Love III is returning from a hip replacement, turning his attention toward Innisbrook Resort's Coppehead Course for this week's Valspar Championship.

DL3 tried to put off the surgery but finally made the decision to get his hip replaced last November, shortly after his missed cut at The RSM Classic. The scheduled recovery time was 3-to-4 months so Love is on an aggressive timetable here. The 53-year-old is 0-for-2 this season and brings plenty of question marks with a new hip in play. Gamers should just sit back and watch before considering a re-investment.

Davis Love II continued his fine record at TPC Kuala Lumpur with a rollicking opening circuit of 5-under-par 31-36=67 at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

The veteran 53-year-old's score went in all directions prior to signing the card in the Malaysian capital. He opened in bad style, stepping off the first green with a bogey to his name only to respond in sensational fashion with five straight birdies, the last of which was a 24'0" effort which flew down the hole. Three holes later he was at it again, closing out the nine with a subtle double-breaker diving in the cup. He poured it on with ticks at 11 and 12 (the latter thanks to a chip-in at pace from the greenside rough) only to then hit a horror patch which included bogey-5 at 13 and double-bogey-6 at 14. He ended the lap with a fast, downhill left-to-right effort from 22'0" at 17 for the birdie. Love III was T8 on his only previous start in this tournament in 2014 and arrived fresh off a pair of T10s, albeit neither recent (mid August on the PGA Tour and mid-September on the Champions).

Three-time champ and World No. 849 Davis Love III carved out a 1-under-par 34-35=69 in the final round of the Wyndham Championship, falling four places to a season-best T10 on 14-under 266, a distant eight in arrears of 54-hole leader and champion Henrik Stenson.

The 53-year-old bags his first top 25 of the season and first top 10 in 13 starts. At 185th in the FedExCup standings his 2016-17 campaign is over, but with 21 career TOUR victories is a Life Member, so retains status on TOUR as long as he wants to keep playing even though his exemption from his win here in 2014 expires. This was the North Carolina native's 11th top 25 at the Wyndham in 22 visits, second straight, and seventh top 10, second straight. After opening in 64-66-67, he began T6, three shy of Stenson, and circled three birdies against two bogeys on 11 (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, securing the T10 with a walk-off birdie-3 from 19'5".

Three-time champ and World No. 849 Davis Love III signed for a 3-under-par 31-36=67 after the third round of the Wyndham Championship for a 54-hole total of 13-under 197, currently T6, right where he began.

The 53-year-old is currently two back of the 54-hole clubhouse lead and three shy of the leaders on the course. He went out in 4-under, canceling bogey-5 at hole 6 with birdies at 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8, but stalled out from there, coming home in birdie-less 1-over, squaring a second bogey-5 at 14. The North Carolina native's split featured two from between 12 and 16 feet, adding a hole-out 2 at 3 from 34'9" away. He posted 0.603 SG: Off-the-Tee and 2.489 SG: Around-the-Green, but a -2.034 SG: Approach-the-Green.

Three-time champ and World No. 849 Davis Love III carded a 4-under-par 32-34=66 in the second round of the Wyndham Championship to reach halftime on 10-under 130, up five places on the live leaderboard to T5, three shy of 36-hole co-leaders Ryan Armour and Webb Simpson.

The 53-year-old, winner in '92, '06 and '15, found 10 (of 14) fairways and pelted 16 greens in regulation, gaining 1.599 strokes approaching-the-green though -0.252 around-the-green. He squared a lone bogey-5 at 14, his only blemish thru 36 holes, offset by five birdies at holes 1, 2, 5, 12 and 18, all from 13 feet and in. The University of North Carolina product posted 1.750 putts per GIR and 0.244 SG: Putting, needing 30 total putts.

Three-time champ Davis Love III pieced together a bogey-free, 6-under-par 32-32=64 during round one of the Wyndham Championship, staking out an early spot inside the top 10 as the morning wave comes to an end.

DL3 won this event in 2015 and didn't get a chance to defend last year due to injury. His opening round is strikingly similar to his R1 from two years ago. He opened with a 6-under 64 that year, as well, and even birdied four of the same holes (4,5,8,11). Love III got the job done today with stellar ball-striking, landing all 18 greens in regulation. The 53-year-old hasn't finished better than T29 since returning from hip surgery last November (12 starts) but he's well on his way to another strong week in Greensboro, North Carolina.

World No. 717 Davis Love III tacked on a 2-under-par 32-36=68 in the third round of The Greenbrier Classic to reach 10-under 200, down one places to T5, two shy of 54-hole clubhouse leader Robert Streb and four back of the leader on the course Sebastian Munoz, who's playing the 18th.

The 53-year-old landed 11 (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, gaining 1.859 strokes approaching-the-green and 3.801 tee-to-green. He outpaced three bogeys at holes 3 (3-putt from 72'6"), 8 (3-putt from 72'9") and 13, with five birdies at 2 (from 19'9"), 6, 7, 9 and 12. The University of North Carolina product posted 1.786 putts per GIR and -1.650 SG: Putting, needing 30 total putts. The last time he was in the top thru 54 holes was at the 2015 Wyndham 25 starts ago (T10), where he erased a four-shot deficit with 6-under 64 to win by one for his 21st TOUR title.

World No. 717 Davis Love III patched together a 1-under-par 34-35=69 in the second round of The Greenbrier Classic, dropping two spots to T4 on 8-under 132, four back of 36-hole leader Sebestian Munoz.

Beginning off No. 10 tee, the 53-year-old found 12 (of 14) fairways and 14 greens in regulation, gaining 0.919 strokes approaching-the-green but losing 0.093 around-the-green. He carded six birdies at Nos. 12-14, 18, 2 and 4, taking some luster off with five squares at 11 (3-putt from 59'11"), 15, 17 (3-putt from 43'2"), 3 and 8 (3-putt from 54'5"). The North Carolina native's split included two conversions from between 10 and 34 feet, and two, near-hole outs at the par-4 second and fourth, kicking in those from inside of 20 inches. He posted 1.786 putts per GIR and -0.406 SG: Putting, taking 31 total putts. This is DL3's first time in the top 10 thru 36 holes since T3 at the 2015 Wyndham, which he went on to win for his 21st and most recent TOUR title.

Davis Love III blitzed The Old White TPC with a bogey-free, 7-under-par 30-33=63 during the opening round of The Greenbrier Classic, claiming the early title of the clubhouse leader as the afternoon wave gets underway.

DL3 arrived with a 2-for-7 record on the season with nothing better than a T41. You would never have guessed it based on today's stripe show. Love III kicked off the day by stuffing his 144-yard approach to 23 inches for a tap-in birdie at the par-4 first hole. He outdid himself three holes later when he stiffed a 168-yard approach to 20 inches. It wasn't all close combat, though, as he also drained a 30'2" birdie bomb at the 14th and would also chip in for birdie (46'5") at the par-5 17th. If this lead holds it will be his 25th first-round lead/co-lead on the PGA TOUR, but first since the 2013 FedEx St. Jude Classic. He has converted three of those FRLs into wins.

Returning from a collarbone injury, Davis Love III survived round two of the Shell Houston Open with an even-par 33-39=72, posting a two-day tally of 1-under 143 to make it through the cut in his first tournament back in action.

DL3 has been on the shelf since a snowboarding accident in January, making this his first PGA TOUR start since The RSM Classic in November. He earned a spot to play over the weekend, but fatigue certainly showed its face today. After racing out to 5-under-par through 28 holes this week, he ended his day with bogeys on four of the last five holes. The final putt couldn't come fast enough for the 2016 Ryder Cup Captain who can now regroup ahead of the weekend. Despite making the cut this week, it hasn't been flashy as he currently ranks T119 in total birdies this week (4), although he also boasts an eagle on his resume. It's tough to continually avoid bogeys at the Golf Club of Houston so he'll need to start circling some birdies if he wants to rise up the leaderboard this weekend.

Recent Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III returns from a 27-week injury absence as he preps for this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. UPDATE: Love III finished T41 on 8-under 276 (68-70-68-70).

DL3 underwent surgery for a torn left hip labrum back at the end of June. His last start came at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational where he opened with an 8-over 78 before backing out of the event. Love III picked a good event to return to, as he owns a 19-for-22 record here in Las Vegas, including a 12-pack of top 25s. Unfortunately, his most recent top 25 here came back in 2008 (T6). The 52-year-old has proven he can still hang with the young guns, but gamers should wait to see some form before investing.

U.S. Captain Davis Love III returned from a heartbreaking loss in 2012 at Medinah CC to lead Team USA to a 17-11 thumping of Team Europe in the 41st Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

Love III was the skipper at the 2012 edition where the U.S. led by 4 points (10-6) heading into Sunday Singles, only to watch the Europeans storm back with 8.5 points (versus 3.5 points) to retain the Cup 14.5 to 13.5. Martin Kaymer won the decisive point in 2012 with a 1UP win over this year's Vice-Captain Steve Stricker, and Francesco Molinari halved his match with 2016 Vice-Captain Tiger Woods for the final margin. Love III, 52 years of age, captained this year's 12-man squad to 3 wins in the 5 sessions, including a 4-0 lead after Friday AM foursomes, and a 3.0-to-1.0-point win in Saturday PM four-balls to give the U.S. a 3-point lead (9.5 to 6.5) heading into Sunday Singles, which Team USA won 7.5 to 4.5. The Americans won seven (of 12) matches on Sunday, highlighted by Patrick Reed (3-1-1 record) taking down Rory McIlroy 1UP in the lead-off match, and final Captain's Pick Ryan Moore (2-1-0) winning the clinching point with a 1UP win over Lee Westwood.

Davis Love III withdrew from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational following an 8-over-par 37-41=78 opening round. Update: Love III announced he will be out for the remainder of the season as he opts for hip surgery to repair a torn left hip labrum.

DL3 was making his first start at Firestone Country Club since 2009, entering the week with top 20s in 9-of-10 starts at this venue. He opened with back-to-back birdies and looked to be on his way to another strong finish. That is where the fun stopped as he split just two more fairways and found just two more greens in regulation over his final 16 holes. He lost 6.82 strokes tee-to-green, leading to six pars and 10 bogeys. The U.S. Ryder Cup Team captain has now withdrawn from two events this year and 11 total in his career. Love III is scheduled to undergo hip surgery on July 6th.

Prior to his second round tee time, Davis Love III has withdrawn from this week's Memorial, citing a hip injury. UPDATE: Love III returned to action June 23rd at the Quicken Loans National and at 6-over 73-75=148, missed the cut by six strokes.

DL3 had a 1:27 p.m. tee time today, but won't be making that. He opened the week with four bogeys, two birdies, and a double in round one, on his way to a 4-over-par 38-38=76. This will be just the 10th mid-tournament WD in his career which now entails 731 starts. There is no word on the severity of this hip issue, so gamers should keep a close eye on the situation if they own DL3 in season-long formats.
