Davis Love III shared a piece of ninth place in the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club and returns this week for another crack at it.
DL3 is 15-for-20 on the season, but no finishes better than his T26 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He's posted two or more top 25s every year for the last 28 years. An optimist might look at that and suggest he's due for a top 25 while the pessimist will say that injuries have finally caught up with Love III, and he doesn't have the upside at this point in his career. You can decide which side of the fence you sit on, but Love III should only be considered for the deepest of formats this week. Aug 6 - 10:03 AM

Davis Love III set the pace in the third round of The Greenbrier Classic with a bogey-free 5-under-par 30-35=65 to reach the 54-hole mark at 5-under 205.

DL3 had the birdies dropping from everywhere, beginning with a hole out from a greenside bunker on the first hole. His other four birdies were highlighted by a 35-footer at the par-4 fifth and a 13'6" effort at the par-4 ninth. His last top 10 on the PGA TOUR came at this event last year, and with another effort like this on Sunday he will do the same again this week.

Davis Love III tied for ninth at The Greenbrier Classic in 2013 and is back for another go of it this week.

That top 10 was the only one for DL3 in 2013, and his most recent on the PGA TOUR. While he's made his last four cuts this season, the best in that run was a T39 last week at Congressional. It's fair to hypothesize that father time is starting to catch up with Love III. He turned 50 in April.

The second round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic was suspended by inclement weather at 1:03 p.m. CT. UPDATE: Play is scheduled to resume at 2:00 p.m.

Memphis and the surrounding area is in a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7:00 p.m. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until Sunday morning as a line of thunderstorms works its way through the midsection of the country yet again today. When we last checked in on Davis Love III, he was one of the 60 to return at 7:02 a.m. today to complete his opening round, but he was able to get his second round in before the current delay. DL3 signed for an even-par, 36-34=70 that featured two birdies and two bogeys. His longest conversion measured 29 feet for birdie at the par-4 second, but he hit only 11 greens, so it was a lot like running in place. Still, at 5-under 135, he's seven strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse leader, but currently inside the top five on the leaderboard.

Davis Love III completed his opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic this morning, signing for a 5-under-par 35-30=65.

The lid-lifter resumed at 7:02 a.m. CT. DL3 had to scratch his start at last week's Memorial due to a toe injury, so his return at TPC Southwind was accompanied by a question mark. Not anymore. He went 5-for-7 in scrambling and circled seven birdies, five of which on his inward nine. That back-half set included a zero-putt nine-yarder at 12 and conventional conversions of 21'5" and 39'9" at Nos. 15 and 17, respectively. He added a par save from 13'3" at the par-5 third. This is Love III's lowest aggregate since opening the 2012 McGladrey Classic with the same. He hadn't scored better than 68 (six times) at any point this season. He's just two strokes off Ben Crane's clubhouse lead.
Jun 6 - 8:41 AM

Davis Love III has been removed from the published field of this week's Memorial.

Love III alerted his followers on Twitter of this news on Sunday morning: "Hate to miss Memorial at Jacks House next week, but need to get toe issue fixed!" He tagged a photo of an ice bag sitting on his right foot, but didn't elaborate on the problem. He turned 50 on April 13, but hasn't teed it up on the Champions Tour yet. DL3 sits 163rd in the FedExCup standings with 11 paydays, none of which going for a top 25.

Davis Love III returns to Colonial Country Club for his 25th Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

DL3 is twice a runner-up here, but has never picked up the big check. Considering he's missed the cut in his last five trips to Colonial, he isn't a safe investment by any standard. He is 163rd in the FedExCup standings and has yet to score a top 25 in 15 starts this season.

May 20 - 9:21 PM

Davis Love III will return to Hilton Head Island for this week's RBC Heritage after a two year recess.

Love III had teed it up in 26 consecutive RBC Heritage running's before having to miss the 2012 Heritage due to a cracked rib. The five-time winner at Harbour Town is the on top of the tournament's all-time earnings list, but he hasn't cracked a top 10 here since 2005. DL3 is still looking for his first top 25 of the season.

Apr 16 - 12:26 PM

Davis Love III carded a 3-under-par 32-37=69 in the third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to join Graeme McDowell at 4-under 212.

Love III was hot early, with birdies on four of his first five holes at Bay Hill. The wheels would wobble after the turn, giving back bogeys on 10, 12 and 14 before righting the ship with a two-putt birdie on the par-5 16th and a 25-foot birdie on the par-3 17th. Though he's made his last three cuts, DL3 hasn't been in contention at all in 2013-14. His best finish was a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. He stands an excellent chance to raise that bar in Sunday's finale.
Mar 22 - 2:17 PM

Davis Love III is a two-time winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and returns for the 27th time this week.

DL3 tied for fourth here in 2007, but hasn't sniffed a top 10 at Pebble since. He's made four of six cuts to start the 2013-14 season, with his best a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. It's stating the obvious to say that he's well past his prime, but if there is a week out there where he could catch lightening in a bottle, this could be it.

Feb 5 - 8:45 PM

Davis Love III will hit the magic number of 50 during the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season, but he is not expected to spend much time on the Champions Tour just yet.

After making just 15 starts in 2013, he already has four under his belt this season. Though he's made three cuts, his best finish was merely a T36 in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. A popular question being flung his way during the last 12 months has centered around his playing plans when April 13 rolls around. The consistent answer has been that he still considers himself a competitive PGA TOUR player and he has no immediate plans to drop starts with the flatbellies to play on the Champions Tour. Still, his fantasy value is no longer elite.

Davis Love III has added the OHL Classic at Mayakoba to his schedule for the first time in his career.

A week after serving as the tournament host in Sea Island, DL3 will take his game to El Camaleón Golf Club in search of a nice week before the holiday break. He's made two of his three cuts in the 2013-14 season, with T62s at both the Frys.com Open and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Couple those low finishes with a missed cut in last week's home game, and he's not all that appealing of an option this week.

A week after serving as a co-captain at the Presidents Cup, Davis Love III will play the Frys.com Open.

No word yet on if DL3 will have any squirrels in his pocket as he returns to CordeValle Golf Club where he tied for 35th in his first trip to the venue last season. He is a Life Member of the PGA TOUR, so he's one of the precious few that never have to worry about status.

Davis Love III turned in a 3-under-par 33-34=67 in the final round of The Greenbrier Classic and his 8-under 272 final tally has him in line for his first top 15 of the year.

DL3 circled four birdies to just one bogey in his final round, missing just one fairway and two GIR in what was an excellent display of ball-striking. His best finish of the season up until this point was a T18 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. While the leaders are still on the outward nine, it looks like a certainty that he will eclipse that this week.

Davis Love III was charging up the leaderboard at the start of his opening round at The Greenbrier Classic, then settled for a 3-under-par 32-35=67.

DL3 began his day on the back nine, circling five birdies to just one bogey on the inward nine at The Old White TPC. He added a sixth birdie at the par-4 first, but leaked oil with two bogeys the rest of the way. After pulling out of AT&T National with a hip injury following a first-round 83, gamers can rest assured that his health is fine.
