The third round of the 113th U.S. Open will being at 12:28 p.m. ET.
Matt Weibring parred his final hole of the day in the second round of the U.S. Open to post 8-over-par 148, becoming the last of 73 to secure a spot for the final 36 holes. Nine shots separate those making the cut on the number from co-leaders Phil Mickelson and Billy Horschel at 1-under. Threesomes will go off 1 and 11 for the third straight round to ensure that 54 holes are complete by nightfall. The USGA will pair golfers for the final round on Sunday. Given the weather challenges Merion has faced over the last week, it's a relief for many that this U.S. Open will conclude as originally scheduled. Sat, Jun 15, 2013 10:18:00 AM

Date:

Matt Weibring will finish the 2011 PGA TOUR season with three starts remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension.

Weibring was given a total of eight starts, and then went 2-for-5 without a top 60. (For the record, he still needed to earn $638,501 on the medical for a promotion in status.) He opted for a full schedule on the Nationwide Tour this year instead, and entered this week's penultimate stop on that circuit ranked 85th in earnings. Non-exempt medicals do not carry over into the following year, so he'll either need to finish inside the top 25 on the Nationwide Tour or graduate from Q School to have status on the PGA TOUR in 2012.

Matt Wiebring has been added to the field of this week's Frys.com Open. UPDATE: Within 30 minutes of being added, he was removed, becoming the fourth golfer today to jump in and then out of the field.

Weibring started the week as the fourth alternate into Frys.com field, but has opted to tee it up at the Nationwide Tour's Children Hospital Classic instead. For the record, he has three starts remaining on his Non-exemption Medical Extension to earn $638,501 and get elevated to the Major Medical category.

It's his first payday on the PGA TOUR this year, and leaves him with four starts on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $651,161 and get elevated to the Major Medical category. When the field for this week's RBC Canadian Open was released on Friday, he was the second alternate.

Matt Weibring backed up his opening 72 with a 6-over-par 39-37=76 in his second round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship, and will miss the cut.

Weibring his only seven greens today and still needed 28 putts. He was bogey-free 2-under through four holes, but was riddled with six bogeys and one double thereafter. This leaves him with seven starts on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $658,649 and get elevated to the Major Medical category. The good news is that he's finally back on TOUR. Should he heat up, he'd make a nifty short-term solution. Back in 2009, he went 11-for-22 with six top 25s.

Matt Weibring settled for a 2-over-par 36-36=72 in his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Sidelined in the second half of 2010 following surgery on his hip, Weibring returned to action on the Nationwide Tour in March. He cashed in just one of his five rehab starts on the developmental circuit. He still has eight starts remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $658,649 and get elevated to the Major Medical Category, and will have some work to do on Friday morning to clinch a paycheck this week. Today's round was nothing special, although he holed birdies of 11'10" and six yards (from off the green) at the first and 11th holes, respectively.

Matt Weibring is listed in the published field of next week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Weibring has been rehabbing on the Nationwide Tour this season. He's 1-for-4 and playing in this week's BMW Charity Pro-Am. He has not teed it up on the PGA TOUR since last year's Reno-Tahoe Open due to surgery on his hip on August 12. He remains an attention-getter since he still has eight starts remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $658,649 and get elevated to the Major Medical category.

Matt Weibring turned in a 1-under-par 36-34=70 in his opening round of the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on the Nationwide Tour.

This is his first official start since last year's Reno-Tahoe Open over eight months ago. He had surgery on his hip on Aug. 12 and still has status on the PGA TOUR via a Non-exempt Medical Extension allowing him eight starts to earn $658,649 and get elevated to the Major Medical category. Weibring is allowed a maximum of five rehab starts on the Nationwide Tour. He netted six birdies today, second-most in the field.

In his updated Media Guide page at PGATOUR.com, Matt Weibring reportedly had surgery on his hip on August 12.

Well, this explains why he disappeared after the Reno-Tahoe Open in July. Playing on a Non-Exempt Medical Extension (eight starts to earn $658,649), he'll juggle his time with starts on the Nationwide Tour. There's no need to invest in fantasy formats.
