Roland Thatcher has been removed from the published field of this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.
Like many that finished 151-200 on the 2012 PGA TOUR money list that had the opportunity to tee it up at Annandale this week, Thatcher elected not to. However, unlike many of the others, he's not scheduled to compete in the Midwest Classic on the Web.com Tour. He won't be missed. Wed, Jul 17, 2013 03:57:00 PM

Roland Thatcher has been added to the published field of this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.

He has a thread of PGA TOUR status for finishing 159th on the money list last season, but it was enough for him to gain entry on merit when Blaine McCallister withdrew. Thatcher is 3-for-4 at Annandale but hasn't cracked a top 50. He's currently 46th on the Web.com Tour money list.

The open qualifier for this week's Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open was suspended by darkness.

Roland Thatcher, Shane Bertsch and Hunter Hamrick have locked up three of the four berths into the tournament proper. (Full-field scores at Boulder Creek Golf Club's Desert Hawk and Coyote Run nines in Boulder City, Nev. have not been released although Hamrick was listed earlier as turning in a 64.) Patrick Reed, Jeff Quinney and Clay Ogden will return at 7:30 a.m. PT to determine the final spot in the 132-man field.

Roland Thatcher has been added to the published field of this week's Wyndham Championship.

Thatcher was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to two withdrawals this morning. He's 167th in FedExCup points, so he'd need a superb finish at Sedgefield Country Club to crack the top 125 and qualify for the Playoffs. He's 0-for-3 at the track and he's missed his last two cuts, so the trends don't support a positive outlook.

Roland Thatcher spun a bogey-free, 4-under-par 32-34=66 in his opening round of the RBC Canadian Open, finishing four strokes adrift of the clubhouse lead.

Thatcher is on a bit of a roll having cashed in each of his last four starts, only one of which has gone for a top 35, however. Today offered a suitable continuation of form as he hit 12 greens and went 6-for-6 in scrambling. He rolled in four birdies, including respective conversions from 17 feet and 14'3" at the eighth and ninth holes.

In search of his first win, Roland Thatcher got off to a shaky start before eventually settling for an even-par 37-33=70 in the final round of the Travelers Championship.

Thatcher squared bogeys on three of his first six holes before bouncing back with a birdie on the seventh. He then stepped on the gas with a birdie on the 12th and an eagle on the par-5 13th before washing his tee shot on the drivable par-4 15th leading to a bogey. He would birdie the 17th and step on the 18th tee in need of another birdie to catch Marc Leishman in the clubhouse, but a bogey dropped him into a tie for fourth at 12-under 268. His ball-striking did him in, as he split just eight (of 14) fairways and landed 11 GIR. He is scheduled to take next week off, rather than compete in the AT&T National.

Roland Thatcher spun a 5-under-par 32-33=65 in the third round of the Travelers Championship to join Brian Davis as a 54-hole co-leader at 12-under 66-67-65=198.

Thatcher circled six birdies before suffering his lone blemish at the par-4 17th. He landed 15 GIR and needed 29 putts to tour the TPC River Highlands. Like Davis, Thatcher will take aim at his first PGA TOUR victory in Sunday's final round.

Roland Thatcher backed up his opening 66 at the Travelers Championship with a 3-under-par 34-33=67 in his second round to grab a slice of the early 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Thatcher continued his assault on the greens at TPC River Highlands, hitting 14 in regulation today en route to five birdies, four of which on his inward nine. The set included conversions from 10'9", 27'6" and 10'3" at the seventh, 12th and 14th holes, respectively. His co-lead will not last long, however.

Roland Thatcher posted a 4-under-par 31-35=66 in his opening round of the Travelers Championship, finishing two strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Thatcher didn't climb into this field until Monday, so he's making the most of his opportunity early. He hit 15 greens in regulation and converted six birdies including rolls of 21'5" and 20'4" at the 11th and 17th holes, respectively. This is his lowest aggregate on the PGA TOUR since he carded a 66 in the second round of the Wyndham Championship last August before missing the cut.

Roland Thatcher has been added to the published field of this week's Travelers Championship.

Thatcher was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday. He gained entry via a series of withdrawals this morning. Stuck in the conditional status category this season, he's been limited to 10 starts at which he's cashed just twice. He's also a dismal 1-for-4 at TPC River Highlands with a T71 in 2004.

Roland Thatcher has been added to the published field of this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Thatcher was the sixth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to two withdrawals this afternoon and the fact that fifth alternate Fran Quinn withdrew earlier in the day. Thatcher is just 2-for-7 with one top 50 this year (T12, Puerto Rico), but he's posted top 10s in his last two trips to TPC Louisiana (2009, 2010). He also placed T20 in 2008.

Roland Thatcher is slated to make his seventh start of the season at the Valero Texas Open.

He heads into the week with a best finish of T12 in Puerto Rico, but only one other payday. In his 2011 voyage around the TPC San Antonio, he was able to notch a T15 finish. He's getting the ball on the putting surface, ranking 15th in GIR, but once on the dance floor he ranks 183rd in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Roland Thatcher carded a 3-under-par 32-37=69 in his opening round of the Puerto Rico Open.

We still don't know why he withdrew after 19 holes of the Mayakoba two weeks ago but today's number is a good sign. He hit 12 greens at Trump International but suffered just one bogey to finish three strokes off the clubhouse lead.

Roland Thatcher is listed in the published field of next week's Puerto Rico Open.

Thatcher withdrew after 19 holes of last week's Mayakoba. An explanation was never released for his decision. He's 1-for-4 on the year with a T54 at Pebble Beach. In his only previous appearance in Puerto Rico, he missed the cut in 2008.

Roland Thatcher withdrew after one hole in his second round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

After opening with a tidy 69 on Thursday (16 GIR, four birdies, one double bogey), he started his second round with a bogey at the 10th hole, and then called it quits. He was an aggregate 1-under-par through 19 holes. If an explanation is provided for his decision, we will relay it to you.
