He's not in the field at the U.S. Senior Open either, so he's merely taking a week off. His only fantasy value is on the Champions Tour, but even then it's marginal.

Neal Lancaster is splitting time between the PGA TOUR and the Champions Tour in 2013, and showed no rust with a 5-under-par 32-33=65 in the opening round of The Greenbrier Classic.

Lancaster navigated The Old White TPC without a blemish, circling birdies on five different par 4s. The highlight was a 53'4" birdie on the 13th. It was so good he didn't even bother walking to the hole to pick it up. His last top 10 on the PGA TOUR was a T6 at the 2007 John Deere Classic, so it will be interesting to see what kind of pace he keeps the remainder of the week.

Neal Lancaster has been added to the published field of this week's Wells Fargo Championship.

The nearby resident of Charlotte was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry via a sponsor exemption. He's 1-for-3 on the season but hasn't posted a top 50. His only payday in four starts at Quail Hollow occurred in the inaugural edition of 2003 (T65). Lancaster still has status via a medical extension in the reshuffle affording him 12 starts to earn $739,784 and a promotion to the Major Medical category. However, for all intents and purposes, those starts are nothing more than money grabs as he eventually transitions onto the Champions Tour.

At 2-over-par 75-70-71-74=290, Neal Lancaster shared 53rd place at the Valero Texas Open.

Lancaster survived the 36-hole cut on the number. Nevertheless, it's his best finish on the PGA TOUR since a T18 at the 2009 Buick Open 12 starts ago. Today's paycheck reads $14,089.50. He now has 12 starts on his medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $739,784 and a promotion to the Major Medical category.
