Lee Williams has not competed on the PGA TOUR since missing the cut at the 2014 FedEx St. Jude Classic.
When the PGA TOUR restarts in January, it will have been 17 months since that short week in Memphis. Williams continues to recover from a back injury, so his medical extension in the reshuffle category carried over to 2015-16. He has six starts to earn $646,270 or 364.25 FedExCup points for a promotion to the Major Medical category. The Auburn product will celebrate his 34th birthday on Sunday. Lee Williams is not listed in the published field of next week's Puerto Rico Open.

He's also not scheduled to compete in the Tour stop in Colombia. Williams, who has a medical extension in the reshuffle category on the PGA TOUR to collect $646,270 or 364.250 FedExCup points in six starts for a promotion to the Major Medical category, has not played anywhere since missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic nearly nine months ago. He's been nursing a back injury that will keep him out at least through the Valero Texas Open (March 26-29), as he explained in a reply to an inquiry on Twitter this week.

Lee Williams opens 2014-15 with a medical extension in the reshuffle category to earn $646,270 or 364.250 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

Williams was elusive on Twitter, never explaining why he's been out since missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in early June, but he received the medical for a back injury. He has zero top 30s in 39 PGA TOUR starts.

In response to a question on Twitter, Lee Williams summarized that he's out for several more months.

"I'm out on a medical and my goal is to return February," Williams wrote. We still don't know why he hasn't played since missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, but getting the medical makes sense. He went 5-for-13 and finished 204th in the FedExCup standings in his return to the PGA TOUR this season. Since he's not planning until returning until perhaps the end of the second phase of the Tour reshuffle, starts are going to be tough to get until fields open in late April and into May. So, even at just $66,075 and armed with a medical, he'll be worth only a final roster spot for salary gamers if his price isn't adjusted for a pool minimum. Williams' best finish among 16 paydays in 39 career starts is a T33 at the 2013 John Deere Classic.

Lee Williams has been removed from the published field of this week's John Deere Classic.

The Tour grad hasn't competed anywhere since missing the cut at the St. Jude five weeks ago. As a result, he's slipped to 196th in the FedExCup standings. No news has surfaced on why he's not playing.

Lee Williams turned in a 3-under-par 34-33=67 for his opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship and sits two strokes off the clubhouse lead.

At 196th in the FedExCup standings, Williams has nowhere to go but up. He's cashed only four of 11 times this season, but none went for a top 40. Today's aggregate matches his season low and featured a wicked-hot putter. He converted everything over which he stood inside 13 feet, including a par save from 12'4" at the par-4 11th, his second hole of the loop. Among his five birdies were rolls from 15'4", 32'4" and 16 feet at Nos. 14, 16 and 6, respectively. At the time he signed his card, his strokes gained-putting split sat in the vicinity of 4.325.

Lee Williams is back for a second helping at this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Williams made his Zurich debut last year with a 68th place finish. He currently sits toward the bottom of the grad reshuffle and could use a nice boost. Unfortunately, an average driving distance of 271 yards (196th on TOUR) is going to make a good finish on this lengthy course just out of reach.

After missing the cut in the 2013 Valero Texas Open, Lee Williams is back for vengeance this week.

Williams enters ranked 181st in the FedExCup standings and is subject to the Tour reshuffle, meaning every opportunity to gather FEC points is a precious one. His most recent start came at the Puerto Rico Open, where he notched a season-best tie for 43rd. He'll attempt to cash a check for the fourth time in nine starts when the tournament kicks off on Thursday.

Lee Williams tied for 37th as a rookie in the 2013 Humana Challenge, and is back for another dose this week.

Williams only owns one finish better than his result in this event last year, and that was a T33 in the 2013 John Deere Classic. Considering he maneuvered Palmer Private at PGA West, Nicklaus Private at PGA West, and La Quinta Country Club to the tune of 17-under-par, he has to be licking his chops. The only drawback could be that he places too much pressure on himself to perform this week.

Lee Williams failed to retain his PGA TOUR card during his rookie season of 2013, but managed to earn a return trip via the four-tournament Tour Finals.

Williams' rookie season included nine paydays in 22 tries, but he failed to scratch out a top 25. Forced into the qualifying series to attempt to regain status, he tied for 18th in the first event before missing the next two cuts. A clutch T8 at the Tour Championship was just enough for him to find his way back to the big stage. He's responded by making two of his first three cuts in the Fall Series, but failed to crack a top 50. It seems the learning curve is continuing to be a slow climb.

Lee Williams shot a 3-under-par 34-34=68 in his opening round of the Open.

Back inside PGA TOUR ropes thanks to the Tour Finals, the 31-year-old started the 2013-14 season strong today. He hit 14 greens and erased a lone bogey with four birdies, including respective conversions from 22'8" and 10 feet at holes 17 and 7. He was the last of 18 to conclude the first round inside the top 10 on the leaderboard. Williams is four strokes off the overnight lead.

Lee Williams enters the Wyndham Championship with his PGA TOUR card hanging in the balance.

Williams must find a way to finish inside the top 125 on either the money list or the FedExCup Standings when he departs Sedgefield Country Club, or he's headed to the four-tournament Tour playoffs to try and regain status. Currently 181 in the FEC standings and 193 on the money list, he needs to focus on winning the tournament. Considering he doesn't even have a top-25 finish in 2013, he better have his bags packed for the playoffs and not The Barclays.
Wed, Aug 14, 2013 08:39:00 PM

Lee Williams has missed three of his last four cuts of 2013 leading up to The Greenbrier Classic.

Williams started the season off on the right foot, posting top-50 finishes in his first two starts. Since then, he's added just one additional top 50. At 183rd in the FedExCup standings, he has his hands full if he is to make a run and earn a spot in the Playoffs.

Lee Williams has been added to the published field of this week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

Williams was the 10th alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry when Brian Harman withdrew. The rookie's modest consecutive cuts made streak of three ended at last week's Byron Nelson. He'll make his debut at Colonial ranked 175th in FedExCup points.
Mon, May 20, 2013 11:26:00 AM

Lee Williams has made half of his 12 cuts ahead of his maiden voyage to the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Williams is still in search of his first top-35 finish in his rookie season, with a T37 at the Humana Challenge his best effort. He is trending upward, making the cut in his last three starts culminating with a T43 at the Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago. While this week's field isn't the strongest, there still isn't enough of a reason to buy to much stock in him at TPC Four Seasons.
