Peter Hedblom shot 3-over-par 71-74=145 at Local Final Qualifying at North Berwick in Scotland, finishing eight strokes outside the playoff for the final two berths into The Open Championship.
Hedblom had open qualified for the U.S. Open and placed T65 at Merion. He's competed in eight Open Championships since 1990, including a T7 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 1996. Jimmy Mullen carded a pair of 3-under 68s today to take medalist honors. The 475th-ranked amateur in the world erased one bogey with four birdies in each round. George Murray (5-under 73-64=137) and Gareth Wright (5-under 69-68=137) outlasted David Higgins (5-under 70-67=137) in a playoff because Higgins was assessed a two-stroke penalty for having 15 clubs in his bag. He added on after regulation thinking his day was done, and then forgot about it. Murray's nightcap ended with an eagle-2 at the 18th hole. Tue, Jul 2, 2013 04:10:00 PM

Peter Hedblom posted an even-par 70 in his opening round of the U.S. Open.

The Swede is a European Tour winner and may resonate with some veteran gamers, but he hasn't contended anywhere in some time and arrived at Merion Golf Club ranked 847th in the world. However, he canceled four bogeys with four birdies to finish three strokes off the clubhouse lead this morning. He'll begin his second round on the first hole at 9:56 a.m. ET.

Peter Hedblom survived a 36-hole qualifier at Walton Heath Golf Club in England to advance to the U.S. Open.

While the Swede’s only made two starts in the U.S. Open, his 11th-place finish in 2005 at Pinehurst was quite the showing. He currently focuses his attention on the European Tour, where his last of three wins was all the way back in 2009 at the Johnnie Walker Championship.

Sweden's Peter Hedblom shot a final-round 68 Sunday to pull out a dramatic one-stroke victory at the Maybank Malaysian Open on the European Tour.

Ironically, Hedblom ended an 11-year victory drought in tropical heat with his win over Frenchman Jean-François Lucquin, whose 67 was the best round of the day. Hedblom's last victory came at the Moroccan Open in 1996.
