Chris Couch has impressed in his return to competitive golf, posting rounds of 71-72=143 (+1) to find himself just inside the top 50 after 36 holes of the Valspar Championship.
Playing on a Major Medical, Couch is making his first PGA TOUR start since the 2012 Wyndham Championship. Through 36 holes, he hasn't done much scoring (3 birdies) but he's avoided trouble for the most part (2 bogeys, one double). Scrambling has been key as he's 12-for-14 getting up-and-down. Fans of Couch should consider this a big win, as he's two clear of the cut line and will now get two more rounds at the Copperhead Course. Mar 9 - 5:15 PM

PGA TOUR winner Chris Couch is returning to competitive golf this week at the Valspar Championship, making his first appearance since August of 2012.

The 44-year-old was last seen at the 2012 Wyndham Championship where he withdrew during round two with a wrist injury. Since that time he's been holding onto a Major Medical Extension with four starts to earn $311,662 if he wants to retain status. Out with a back injury since that time, Couch is a long shot to finish four rounds, let alone contend this week. In his career, he is 71-for-186 with 14 mid-tournament WDs and one DQ.

Chris Couch still has status on the PGA TOUR via a Major Medical Extension.

Whether the 42-year-old chooses to do anything with it is anyone's guess. He hasn't competed since withdrawing from the 2012 Wyndham Championship during its second round with a wrist injury. However, he's been officially sidelined with a back injury suffered that same year. Should he bank $311,662 in his next four starts, he'll retain status. Couch is $138,447 shy of qualifying for conditional status as a secondary objective.

Chris Couch remains out indefinitely due to a back injury suffered in 2012.

Couch turned 41 years of age in May, but hasn't played anywhere of note since withdrawing from the 2012 Wyndham Championship with a wrist injury. He was then given a Major Medical Extension for 2013 but for the aforementioned back issue. The MME was renewed a second time for 2014-15. Should he earn $331,662 in his next four starts on the PGA TOUR, he'll retain status for the remainder of the season. He's only $138,447 short of securing conditional status. However, because he's sat out for so long, continue to ignore him in all formats. This is the option you've likely exercised for some time anyway.

Chris Couch is not listed in the published field of next week's OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Couch sat out the entire 2013 season due to a back injury. He had status via a Minor Medical Extension, which would normally not be renewed, but the PGA TOUR granted an exception to guys on Minor Medicals and Non-exempt Medicals due to the one-time compressed schedule. However, instead of merely extending Couch's Minor Medical into 2013-14, the TOUR "upgraded" him to a Major on which he still has four starts to earn $311,662. Should he meet the terms, he'll retain status, but the elevation from Minor to Major will assumingly allow him to play in any four events without having to wait out a spot as an alternate. Despite the unexplained promotion, leave him off your fantasy lineup.

Chris Couch was given four starts on a Minor Medical Extension as a result of a late-season wrist injury.

After withdrawing from the Wyndham Championship and failing to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs, Couch did not appear in the Fall Series. For the season, he cashed in 10 of 21 starts, earning $335K. If he banks $311,662 in his first four starts, he will be promoted to the Major Medical category for the remainder of the season. (He's $138,447 short of securing conditional status.)

Chris Couch has been removed from the published field of this week's McGladrey Classic.

Couch was already a question mark, so this isn't a surprise. He last competed at the Wyndham Championship, but withdrew during his second round with a wrist injury.

Chris Couch is listed in the published field of next week's McGladrey Classic.

We haven't seen the veteran since he withdrew during his second round of the Wyndham Championship with a wrist injury. He's 10-for-21 on the year and ranks 164th on the money list, so his task at Sea Island is obvious.

Chris Couch withdrew during his second round of the Wyndham Championship due to a wrist injury.

Couch was laying 4 on the green at the par-4 fourth hole when he walked off. He would have been eyeing a bogey putt from 6'1" on what was his 13th hole of the round. He was 2-over for the day as well as for the tournament. At 153rd in FedExCup points entering the week, he will not qualify for the Playoffs.

Chris Couch has been removed from the published field of this week's RBC Canadian Open.

Couch logged a season-best T13 at the True South Classic, but he's still 144th in the FedExCup standings. Admittedly forced to rest his creaky body every once in a while, this will be his first week off in the last six.

Chris Couch enters The Greenbrier Classic in search of his first top 10 of 2012.

Couch has made the cut in seven of his 16 starts including two top 25s, the most recent a T23 at THE PLAYERS. The stars could align for him this week, as he's cashed in both his trips to The Old White TPC with a T11 last year the best. He's been excellent off the tee, ranking 12th in total driving, but has only managed to hold 61.35 percent of his GIR.

Chris Couch has been added to the published field of this week's Memorial.

Couch was the third alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry when John Mallinger withdrew this morning. Couch has two top 25s among five paydays in 12 starts this year and sits 157th in FedExCup Points. He's 1-for-4 at Muirfield Village with a T51 at last year's edition.

Chris Couch's lone PGA TOUR victory came at the 2006 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he is in the field once again.

The Florida Gator has struggled in 2012, making only two cuts in eight tries with a season-best T19 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He ranks 11th in total driving and 41st in ball-striking. The problem comes when he's on the dance floor, as he's 131st in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Chris Couch signed for an even-par 33-38=71 following his opening round of the RBC Heritage.

Last time we saw the veteran he withderew after one round in Houston two weeks ago due to an unspecified injury. He seemed just fine today, at least early, going out in bogey-free 3-under with an outward nine that included a par save of 20'5" at the eighth hole and a birdie measuring 12'5" at the ninth; however, that last conversion would be his last birdie of the round. He logged bogeys at 12, 14 and 15, and then needed another par save of 11'6" at the 17th to avoid dipping into black numbers. Best of all, he was only two shots off the clubhouse lead on what is a difficult day for scoring.

Chris Couch is listed in the published field of next week's RBC Heritage.

Couch called it quits after one round in Houston with an unspecified injury. He shared a career-best 14th place in his fourth start at last year's stop at Hilton Head.
