Shortly after the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans was suspended due to inclement weather at 4:30 p.m. CT, play was called for the day. UPDATE: Play is scheduled to resume at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
They were able to play nine-and-a-half hours today before this delay. The entire late-early draw has 36 holes in the books, but all in the other half were stranded when the horn sounded. That group includes Nicholas Thompson, who went out in the first threesome off the first tee at noon. He's bogey-free 4-under-par on the day and 4-under for the tournament, but just inside the cut line at T67. When play resumes, Nitro will be standing over a look at birdie from 42'3" on the green at the par-5 18th hole. Apr 24 - 5:38 PM

Nicholas Thompson is in the published field at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and enters the week ranked 94th in FedExCup points.

It's been a mixed bag for Thompson at TPC Louisiana with three top 25s in his first three visits, sandwiching a T24 in 2009 with a T4 in 2008 and T7 in 2010. After a two-year hiatus from the tourney he's returned the last two years and missed the cut in each. On the season, he's 9-for-18 with four top 25s but has six MCs in his last eight starts.

Nicholas Thompson has been added to the published field of this week's Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Thompson was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday. He gained entry when Nick Watney withdrew today. Nitro has a pair of paydays in four appearances at Bay Hill, both in his last two. He tied for 26th last year. More recently, he ended an 0-for-3 schneid with a back-door T17 at Copperhead where he closed with 67 to secure his fourth top 25 of the season, one more than in all of 2013-14. He's currently 75th in the FedExCup standings.

Nicholas Thompson converted eight birdies en route to a 4-under-par 31-36=67 in his opening round of the Valspar Championship.

Nitro signed his card sitting two strokes off the clubhouse lead, but he may be talking to himself a bit. In addition to the success, he squared four bogeys, two of which via three-putts. But focusing on the good, six of his par breakers disappeared from outside 10 feet, the longest stretching 30'3" at the par-3 15th hole. The 32-year-old is in his 203rd PGA TOUR start and remains in pursuit of his maiden victory.

Nicholas Thompson will attempt to end his current skid at this week's Valspar Championship.

He is proving again why he puts together one of the busiest schedules. Thompson enters this week having missed his last three cuts and finishing no better than T44 in his last seven. With Danny Lee and Jim Renner, he co-leads the PGA TOUR with 13 starts. Copperhead hasn't been a haven of success for Thompson -- no top 40s among three paydays in five trips -- so he remains a smart option to avoid.

Mar 11 - 1:38 AM

Nicholas Thompson has elected not to compete in this week's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Whoa. Nitro usually contends for the TOUR high in total starts, so this decision couldn't have come lightly. In fact, he and Danny Lee co-lead with 10 starts each. However, Thompson is 53rd in the FedExCup standings, so he can afford the break. If there's any negative, it's that he faded to a T53 at the Farmers Insurance Open after leading the tournament after an opening 64 at Torrey Pines North.

Feb 9 - 10:19 AM

First-round leader Nicholas Thompson settled for a 1-over-par 36-37=73 in his second round of the Farmers Insurance Open.

Thompson's opening-round lead wasn't official until the 42 golfers stranded on Thursday completed their lid-lifters this morning, but he's nonetheless in the books. Today on Torrey Pines South, he went just 1-for-12 in birdie chance and that required a try from 13'7" at the par-5 18th to drop to avoid the shutout. He also squared a pair of bogey-4s. The good news is that he's 7-under 137 and just three strokes back of 36-hole clubhouse leader Harris English.
Feb 6 - 6:44 PM

Nicholas Thompson scooted out to an 8-under-par 32-32=64 at Torrey Pines North in his opening round of the Farmers Insurance Open, good for early possession of the clubhouse lead.

This just might hold on for the overnight lead. Nitro split 11 (of 14) fairways and landed 16 greens in regulation. That stripe show yielded an eagle-3 at the par-5 first hole, where he began his loop, and seven birdies. His only bogey of the round -- a 4 at the 12th -- was a mere blip as he birdied the next three holes. With vast difference in the overall challenge on both courses, taking is deep on the easier of the two is critical to avoiding the heat before the cut. Thompson will now buckle up for the South Course on Friday.
Feb 5 - 7:21 PM

Nicholas Thompson will take a peek at his old yardage books ahead of this week's Farmers Insurance Open.

The Florida native returns to the West Coast for his seventh start at this event. His resume shows a 5-for-6 record at the Farmers with highlights coming in the form of T17 and T21 finishes in 2009 and 2013, respectively. He was riding a streak of six straight cuts made before falling flat at last week's Waste Management Phoenix Open. This may be the perfect venue for Thompson to get back on track.

Feb 4 - 8:00 PM

Nicholas Thompson tore through the Fall Series, finishing 27th in the FedExCup standings.

This surge was unexpected as he's made the Playoffs just twice in his career, but he's off to a great start thus far. Thompson rattled off four straight top 35s after shaking off two missed cuts to open the season. The Georgia Tech product has just two podium finishes in 195 career starts, but that number could increase by season's end if the holiday break didn't cool him off too much.

Nicholas Thompson posted a 2-under-par 34-35=69 in the final round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and finishes the week with a top 10 at 11-under 273.

Thompson's lap around El Camaleón GC was relatively tame, featuring five birdies and three bogeys to go with 10 pars. He found just seven of 14 fairways and landed 11 GIR. This goes in the books as his third top 25 of the new season and first top 10.

Nicholas Thompson stumbled down the stretch in his even-par 36-35=71 in the third round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Thompson traded two birdies for two bogey on his outward nine at El Camaleón GC before opening the back nine with back-to-back birdies. His last five holes erased his hard work, suffering three bogeys to just one birdie and a lone par over that span. The ball-striking was the worst it had been all week, finding just eight of 14 fairways and landing 11 GIR on a rainy afternoon. His 9-under 204 has him teetering on the bubble for a top 10.

Nicholas Thompson fashioned a bogey-free, 6-under-par 31-34=65 in his second round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Nitro is off to a nice start in the news season. By reaching the midpoint in México in 9-under 133, he's cashed in four straight starts, the first two going for top 25s. Today he split 10 (of 14) fairways and went 3-for-3 in scrambling while finding six birdies at El Camaleón. Thompson signed his card sitting just three shots off the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Nicholas Thompson returns to the OHL Classic at Mayakoba for his second look at El Camaleón Golf Club.

Thompson is finding form ahead of this week's event, finishing 35th or better in his last three starts after opening the season with a pair of missed cuts. He's finished inside the top 50 in driving accuracy each of the past two seasons, so El Camaleón should catch his eye. Armed with good form and precision off the tee, Thompson makes for a nice sleeper in deeper fantasy formats.

Nicholas Thompson readies for the season opener at this week's Frys.com Open.

Thompson was the first man outside of the FedExCup bubble, which likely left a sour taste in his mouth. It was an up-and-down season, with 12 cuts made in 30 opportunities, yielding a podium finish and another pair of top 25s along the way. Thompson boasts a T8 at the 2009 Frys.com Open on his resume, but he will have to battle a new venue this week.
