Nicholas Thompson posted a 2-under-par 34-35=69 in the final round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba and finishes the week with a top 10 at 11-under 273.
Thompson's lap around El Camaleón GC was relatively tame, featuring five birdies and three bogeys to go with 10 pars. He found just seven of 14 fairways and landed 11 GIR. This goes in the books as his third top 25 of the new season and first top 10. Nov 16 - 4:12 PM

Nicholas Thompson stumbled down the stretch in his even-par 36-35=71 in the third round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Thompson traded two birdies for two bogey on his outward nine at El Camaleón GC before opening the back nine with back-to-back birdies. His last five holes erased his hard work, suffering three bogeys to just one birdie and a lone par over that span. The ball-striking was the worst it had been all week, finding just eight of 14 fairways and landing 11 GIR on a rainy afternoon. His 9-under 204 has him teetering on the bubble for a top 10.
Nov 15 - 4:38 PM

Nicholas Thompson fashioned a bogey-free, 6-under-par 31-34=65 in his second round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Nitro is off to a nice start in the news season. By reaching the midpoint in México in 9-under 133, he's cashed in four straight starts, the first two going for top 25s. Today he split 10 (of 14) fairways and went 3-for-3 in scrambling while finding six birdies at El Camaleón. Thompson signed his card sitting just three shots off the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Nicholas Thompson returns to the OHL Classic at Mayakoba for his second look at El Camaleón Golf Club.

Thompson is finding form ahead of this week's event, finishing 35th or better in his last three starts after opening the season with a pair of missed cuts. He's finished inside the top 50 in driving accuracy each of the past two seasons, so El Camaleón should catch his eye. Armed with good form and precision off the tee, Thompson makes for a nice sleeper in deeper fantasy formats.

Nicholas Thompson readies for the season opener at this week's Frys.com Open.

Thompson was the first man outside of the FedExCup bubble, which likely left a sour taste in his mouth. It was an up-and-down season, with 12 cuts made in 30 opportunities, yielding a podium finish and another pair of top 25s along the way. Thompson boasts a T8 at the 2009 Frys.com Open on his resume, but he will have to battle a new venue this week.

Oct 8 - 8:27 AM

Nicholas Thompson posted a 1-under-par 33-36-69 in the final round of the Wyndham Championship, but dropped out of the top 125 in the FedExCup standings to miss the Playoffs.

Thompson ended his week at even-par 280 to share 70th with three other players. He fell from 123rd to 126th in the FedExCup standings and will not be apart of the Playoffs beginning at The Barclays later the week. The silver lining is that he still has his PGA TOUR card for 2014-15 via finishing 123rd on the PGA TOUR money list with $713,377. The top 125 in both FedExCup points and earnings are fully exempt next season.

Nicholas Thompson will take his game to Royal Montreal GC for the RBC Canadian Open this week.

Thompson enters the tournament 111th in the FedExCup standings due in large part to his T3 at Colonial. Following that success, he missed his subsequent five cuts before breaking out of his funk with a T37 at the John Deere Classic two weeks ago. With playing opportunities for his chasers dwindling, just making the cut this week would go a long way towards securing his 2014-15 PGA TOUR card by virtue of a top 125 finish in the FEC standings.

Nicholas Thompson has missed his most recent three cuts leading up to the Quicken Loans National at Congressional Country Club this week.

Perhaps form isn't much of an indicator for Thompson, as he tied for third at Colonial immediately before his stretch of three consecutive missed cuts. Before that, he missed four cuts in succession. This is his fifth trip to the QLN, with three of the four occurring at Congressional, and he's never missed a cut. If we can't count on current form, perhaps we can lean on his consistently good history.

Jun 24 - 3:20 PM

Nicholas Thompson spun a 4-under-par 33-33=66 in the final round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and is the first to reach 8-under 272.

Thompson circled five birdies, including a 12'2" effort on the par-4 18th, to go with just one bogey. Other highlights included a 13'9" birdie at the par-4 second and a 14'10" birdie at the par-4 seventh. He gained over three strokes with his putter on Sunday, so that clearly played a large role in his overall success this week. Entering the week 138th in the FedExCup standings, he needed a tournament like this to try and secure his playing privileges for 2014-15 on the PGA TOUR. Thompson is only one off the lead in real time, meaning he shouldn't stray far from the property just in case.
May 25 - 4:08 PM

Nicholas Thompson returns to TPC Four Seasons for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Thompson tied for fourth in this event in 2008, but has also missed the cut in three of his five trips. That's a pretty fair representation of his entire PGA TOUR career. Several bright spots along the journey, but more misses than hits. He's currently 131st in the FedExCup standings, making eight of his 19 cuts in 2013-14.

May 13 - 10:13 PM

Nicholas Thompson circled five birdies for a 3-under-par 31-37=68 during his third round at the RBC Heritage.

Thompson got off to a roaring start on the front nine before coming in at 2-over on the back nine. Nitro's third round featured two hole-outs from off the green. The first coming for birdie from 15 yards out on the par-4 eighth, and the second coming from five yards on the par-4 finale to save a bogey. Thompson shares the 54-hole clubhouse lead at 5-under 208 and will make a run at his first PGA TOUR win tomorrow.
Apr 19 - 6:39 PM

Nicholas Thompson has opened the RBC Heritage with a pair of 1-under-par 70s.

The perennial Quadruple-A talent entered the week sitting 134th in FedExCup points despite no top 20s. However, he's placed T26 (Bay Hill) and T24 (Houston) in his last three starts. Today at Harbour Town, he signed for 35s on each nine with four birdies and three bogeys. (There are two par 5s on the front, but just one on the back.) His longest birdie measured 13 feet at the par-5 15th, but he also holed a par save from 10'10" at 17 and jarred a par from the rough eight yards away at 7. He's one back of the early 36-hole clubhouse lead.
Apr 18 - 12:27 PM

Nicholas Thompson tees it up for the sixth consecutive week at the Shell Houston Open.

Thompson has three cuts made over the last five weeks while missing two cuts during that stretch. His course history at the Golf Club of Houston is also mediocre, as he's finished outside the top 50 in three-of-five attempts. Thompson's best output at the course came back in 2009 with a T11 finish.

Mar 31 - 10:48 PM

Nicholas Thompson fired a blemish-free 4-under-par 33-33=66 in the third round of The Honda Classic and enters the final round at 6-under 204.

Thompson went out relatively early in the pack, completing most of his work before the leaders even teed off. His 14 pars were only broken up by four birdies. He accomplished this despite having his worst ball-striking round of the week. He split just eight (of 14) fairways and landed 12 GIR. He tied for 23rd here last year, so his success isn't without a precedent.
Mar 1 - 4:55 PM

Nicholas Thompson makes his fifth start in the Northern Trust Open this week.

When trying to gauge Thompson's history at Riviera Country Club, a quick peek reveals a horrid picture. His best finish was a 68th in 2010. Before that, he'd missed two cuts and withdrew after an opening-round 75 in 2008. Current form isn't much better, having missed two consecutive cuts and doing no better than a T69 at the Humana Challenge in 2014. A T40 at the CIMB Classic remains his best finish of the 2013-14 season.
