Kyle Thompson will look to snap out of a slump as he turns his attention toward this week's OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
Thompson went 13-for-22 last year on the Tour, including a trio of podium finishes. He graduated to the PGA TOUR by finishing 7th on the regular money list. Now he's trying to find that same form and translate it to PGA TOUR success. The big stage hasn't been kind to Thompson over the years as he's just 13-for-58 with just two finishes inside the top 30. On the bright side, his best finish is a T15 at the 2008 Puerto Rico Open, played at another course that uses seashore paspalum greens, just like this week's venue. Tue, Nov 7, 2017 07:46:00 PM

Kyle Thompson readies for his second appearance in a U.S. Open Championship as he preps for the 117th edition in Erin, Wisconsin.

Thompson played the 2012 U.S. Open after losing a 3-for-1 playoff in the Memphis qualifier, later gaining entry as an alternate. He would go on to post rounds of 82-72=154 (+14) at Olympic Club to miss the cut. This time around, Thompson punched his ticket through the sectional in Rockville, Maryland. Thompson is also playing some of the best golf of his career on the Tour this season, winning the The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic and finishing fifth at the United Leasing & Finance Championship, posting a 6-for-10 record overall. On the down side, he is just 13-for-54 in his career on the PGA TOUR.

Kyle Thompson spun a 2-under-par 32-38=70 in the final round of The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay to win his fifth Tour title at 2-under 286.

It's not often a player wins a tournament with seven double bogeys on the card, but that was the case on the Sandals - Emerald Reef Course due to extreme wind. The University of South Carolina grad picked the sweetest way to erase watching his rival Clemson Tigers win their first football national championship since 1981 earlier this week. Oh, and he's also well on his way to earning a 2017-18 PGA TOUR card as the first leader of the 2017 Tour money list.

Hurricane Matthew encroaching on Jacksonville has led to the cancellation of the Tour Championship, putting an end to the 2016 season.

Kyle Thompson alerted his followers on Twitter saying, "Not quite the way I hoped to finish my season. Really looked forward to this last chance at my PGA Tour card." He will not be alone in that sentiment. Thompson was in a share of 54th on the WCT Finals money list, with only the Top 25 punching their tickets to the PGA TOUR. The text received by Thompson included, "The tournament will NOT be rescheduled" so this puts an end to the Tour season. Those outside The Finals 25 bubble will be quite upset about the news, but it would have been a long shot to get this tournament in with forecasted winds over 50 mph on top of heavy rain. With the 2016-17 PGA TOUR season kicking off next week at the Safeway Open, the only other option would have been to move the venue, but that is no easy task on such short notice.

Kyle Thompson spun a 4-under-par 35-32=67 in the final round of the Rex Hospital Open and survived a three-man playoff to claim the title.

He finished his week at 17-under 267. He's no stranger to success at TPC Wakefield Plantation, winning this event in 2007 and 2011. His other Tour win came in 2007 at the Oregon Classic. Thompson was sniffing the top of the leaderboard after two birdies on his first eight holes, but lost some ground with a bogey on the par-5 ninth. He bounced back nicely, circling birdies on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes before trading a bogey at the par-4 14th with a birdie on the par-5 15th. After watching his birdie bid for the win on the first hole of sudden death slide by on the right side, he converted a putt from short range on the second playoff hole. The par-4 18th was utilized for both playoff holes. Due to limited Tour status, this was just Thompson's second start of the season. He missed the cut in the BMW Charity Pro-Am two weeks ago. With this win, he moves to 15th on the Tour money list and now has the full status needed to chase a 2015-16 PGA TOUR card.

At 11-under-par 63-68=131, Kyle Thompson will sleep on a one-stroke lead at the Tour's Rex Hospital Open.

Thompson followed Thursday's eight-birdie, bogey-free stroll around TPC Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh with a four-birdie effort today. He finally gave back his first shot with a bogey at the par-4 seventh hole, but he wouldn't trade his position to erase the square. Overall, he's split 23 (of 28) fairways and hit 29 greens in regulation. He's 13th in putts per GIR at 1.655. After his round, he shared why he's having success with Rotoworld. "I'm reading the greens really well and hitting a lot of solid putts," Thompson texted. He also cited a change in putters on Tuesday as a source of his success. This is his first payday in two starts this season. The former PGA TOUR member has three wins on the Tour but not since 2011. The quartet one back at the Rex Hospital includes former PGA TOUR members Steve Allan and Darron Stiles. Overnight leader Seamus Power back-pedaled with 72 today and sits two swings in arrears of Thompson.

Kyle Thompson has twice hoisted the hardware in the Rex Hospital Open and goes for the hat trick at TPC Wakefield Plantation this week.

Thompson is a past member of the PGA TOUR, most recently in 2012. His 2007 and 2011 wins in Raleigh represent two of his three on the Tour. When contacted by Rotoworld and asked about the keys to his past success here, Thompson commented, "I love the greens here and always seem to read them great! Also, I'm comfortable with all the lines off the tees." As to the current state of his game, he adds, "My game feels really solid. I plan on working my wedge game hard this week in practice and I'll be ready to compete for a third win." Wedges are a traditional strength for the former South Carolina Gamecock, ranking first on the PGA TOUR in approaches from 125-150 yards in 2012.

Kyle Thompson will play the Rex Hospital Open this week, which happens to be the site of two of his three Tour victories.

Thompson's 2013 campaign has been a poor one to say the least, missing each of his six cuts and falling far down the reshuffle list. TPC Wakefield Plantation could be exactly what he needs to get back on track. His wins were in 2007 and 2011, and the '11 win vaulted him onto the PGA TOUR in 2012.

Kyle Thompson’s second trip to the PGA TOUR has not gone has would have dreamed, and he needs a huge week at The McGladrey Classic if he is to have any chance at avoiding Q School.

The former South Carolina Gamecock has seen the weekend just twice in 20 starts, ranking 230th on the money list. His first payday came in his 16th start of the year at the True South Classic, where he tied for 57th. He then posted a T31 at the Wyndham Championship three events later. He ranks 189th in ball-striking, 190th in scrambling and 189th in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Heavy rain has delayed the Wyndham Championship at 3:10 p.m. ET, as Sedgefield Country Club has become too saturated to continue play uninterrupted. UPDATE: Play has been suspended for the day and will scheduled Monday at 9:00 a.m.

While officials were not expecting the delay to be lengthy, originally choosing to leave players in place, they have since decided to bring them in. When play resumes, Kyle Thompson faces an approach from 203 yards as he looks to close out just his second weekend finish of the season.

Kyle Thompson survived the cut on the number at the True South Classic.

The cut finally fell this afternoon at Annandale Golf Club. Thompson posted 3-under-par 69-72=141 from the late-early draw, and then waited as the other half of the field reached the midpoint. When all golfers had concluded 36 holes, nine were tied for 67th place at 141. It's no small achievement for Thompson, who returned to the PGA TOUR this year via the Tour. He was 0-for-15 entering the week, and goes in the books as the last of all 2011 graduates to clinch a payday. After he learned he was playing the weekend in Mississippi, he wrote the following on Twitter: "Well I finally made a cut and got this 1000 lb. gorilla off my back! Now it's time to finish this year off strong."

Kyle Thompson has gained entry into this week's U.S. Open.

Thompson was the second alternate off the re-allotment list used by the USGA. He lost in a 3-for-1 playoff at the sectional qualifier in Memphis. After missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, he's 0-for-11 this season on the PGA TOUR. Nevertheless, there is joy in the knowledge that he'll be making his debut in a major at Olympic Club.

Kyle Thompson settled for an 8-over-par 43-37=80 in his opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

As we relayed last week, Thompson tweeted that he was suffering from vertigo and a case of pink eye. While he missed only one fairway today, he hit only eight greens. He started on the 10th hole and promptly bogeyed his first three before a birdie at 13. He'd add another bogey and two doubles before making the turn.

Kyle Thompson withdrew from the Valero Texas Open with two holes remaining in his second round.

Thompson was 5-over-par through 16 holes and 9-over for the tournament at the time he walked off. He didn't return when play resumed at 3:05 p.m. CT. After his opening 76 on Thursday, he wrote the following on Twitter: "Just saw a doctor and the good new [sic] is that it's not the flu. Bad news is I have vertigo." Then prior to today's loop, he added:) "Doc also told me I've got pink eye. What is going on here?? Today's round should be interesting to say the least." The 2011 Nationwide Tour grad is now 0-for-7 on the PGA TOUR this season. Assuming he's able, he give it another go at next week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans where he's listed in the published field.

Kyle Thompson has been added to the published field of this week's Humana Challenge.

Thompson was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday. He gained entry thanks to a trio of withdrawals this morning and will be making his second appearance at PGA West (T50, 2008). He missed the 36-hole cut of last week's Sony Open by nine strokes. Only Heath Slocum fared worse in the 144-man field.
