Chip Ambres homered twice and drove in all four Boston runs Wednesday in a win over the Pirates.

Ambres has already been sent down, but he got one last chance to impress with the Red Sox mostly bringing backups to Bradenton today. He'll be part of Triple-A Pawtucket's outfield after hitting .211/.348/.579 in 38 at-bats this spring.

Padres sent outfielder Chip Ambres outright to Triple-A Portland.

He's now a free agent. Ambres hit .195/.313/.220 in 41 at-bats for the Padres after being called up on Sept. 2. He'll likely open 2009 in Triple-A with a different organization.

Chip Ambres, who had been sidelined with a sprained knee, singled as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday.

With both Drew Macias and Will Venable on the roster now, Ambres will probably be used primarily as a pinch-hitter the rest of the way.

Chip Ambres was unavailable Saturday after coming out of Friday's game with a sprained left knee.

Ambres could undergo an MRI in the next few days. "We're a little concerned," said manager Bud Black. "Chip was pretty sore today. He tried to do a couple of things and couldn't." With Scott Hariston and Jody Gerut already sidelined, the Padres are awfully thin in the outfield. There's a chance Edgar Gonzalez could play one of the corner spots.

Chip Ambres was removed from Friday's game in the fourth inning with a sprained left knee.

Ambres suffered the injury while trying to beat out a grounder in the first inning. Consider him day-to-day until we learn a little more.

Padres purchased the contract of outfielder Chip Ambres from Triple-A Portland.

Ambres, 28, hit .279/.368/.539 with 22 homers for Portland. He'd be an adequate major league reserve, but he's had trouble getting chances since a bad spring cost him a job with the Royals in 2006. Unless Jody Gerut's injury is more severe than believed, the Padres won't have many at-bats available for him as a bench player.

Padres designated outfielder Chip Ambres for assignment.

Ambres went 2-for-17 with eight strikeouts and two walks in three weeks with the Padres.

Padres purchased the contract of OF Chip Ambres from Triple-A Portland.

The 28-year-old was hitting .289 with 16 homers and 62 RBI at Triple-A. He also had eight steals. He's starting in right field on Tuesday night as Brian Giles rests his strained hamstring, and the Padres hope he'll add a little punch to their struggling offense.

Padres signed OF Chip Ambres and RHP Adam Bass to minor league contracts.

Ambres is out of options, but could begin the season at Triple-A without first being placed on waivers. He was designated for assignment by the Mets in late July.

Chip Ambres delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th inning against the Dodgers on Sunday.

The Mets rallied for a run in the top of the ninth to tie the game, then got things started when Lastings Milledge singled off D.J. Houlton with one out in the tenth. Carlos Beltran then singled to left followed by Milledge moving to third on a grounder by David Wright. With two outs and the tying run on third, Ambres pinch-hit for the pitcher's spot and singed to left to put the Mets ahead. Billy Wagner then pitched a scoreless bottom of the inning to protect the lead, allowing Pedro Feliciano to pick up the win in relief.

Mets purchased the contract of outfielder Chip Ambres from Triple-A New Orleans.

Ambres was last in the majors with the Royals in 2005. He was hitting .272/.370/.492. Chances are that he'll only stick around until Damion Easley rejoins the Mets or Moises Alou comes off the DL.

Mets signed outfielder Chip Ambres to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Ambres seemed on his way to becoming a pretty good reserve outfielder a year ago, but he failed to make the Royals out of spring training and then got hurt after batting .203 in 56 games for Triple-A Omaha. He'll continue his recovery from shoulder surgery at Triple-A New Orleans.

Chip Ambres has accepted his assignment to Omaha.

Ambres had the option of becoming a free agent after he cleared waivers, but he decided to stay with the Royals.
