Astros released OF Alex Romero.

Romero was a non-roster invitee in Astros camp and failed to make a positive impression on the club. The 26-year-old has batted just .239/.279/.339 in 299 major league plate appearances over the last two seasons. Still, he's likely to find a home with another organization.

Alex Romero went 4-for-7 and ripped a tie-breaking two-run double in the top of the 12th on Thursday night as the D-Backs went on to beat the Pirates 11-6.

The Diamondbacks trailed 6-3 after six innings, but battled back to a tie and sent the game to extra innings, where they eventually gained a decisive victory thanks to a five-run outburst in the 12th. Romero, who doubled, drove in three runs and stole a base in the game, watched his average shoot from .255 to .290.

Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Alex Romero from Triple-A Reno.

Romero takes over for Eric Byrnes, who was placed on the disabled list Friday in a corresponding move. He'll get a decent crack at playing time and might actually do a little something with the opportunity. In 279 Triple-A at-bats, he was batting .348 with two home runs and 47 RBI.

Diamondbacks sent outfielder Alex Romero outright to Triple-A Reno.

Romero had just returned from a fractured hand suffered at the beginning of the spring. He was only a candidate to make the Diamondbacks if Eric Byrnes had a setback or another outfielder got hurt.

Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said Saturday that outfielder Alex Romero is a "full go" for baseball activities.

Romero had been recovering from a broken bone for about five weeks. He made his spring debut Saturday, going hitless in two at-bats. He'll start Sunday against the Padres.

Alex Romero, who suffered a fractured hand during winter ball, has been cleared to start taking soft toss.

"He's probably five or six days away from playing in a game . . . but he's a pretty quick mover and a guy who doesn't take long to get himself in shape because he takes such good care of himself," Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin said Saturday.

Alex Romero will be held out of action until his fractured hand is reexamined Monday.

Romero underwent X-rays earlier this week, but the Diamondbacks aren't ready to clear him to return yet.

Alex Romero hit a solo home run as the Diamondbacks defeated the Cubs on Monday night.

The Diamondbacks totaled two hits on the night: Romero's first major league home run, and a Stephen Drew triple that drove in Chris Snyder, who had walked. Romero is currently the starter in right field with Arizona's outfield decimated, but he's not a fantasy option.
