Rommie Lewis has elected free agency.

Lewis was outrighted off the 40-man roster recently but declined an assignment to Triple-A. Given his 7.07 ERA over the last two seasons at Triple-A, there probably won't be too many teams lining up to sign him, but the 29-year-old could be added as organizational depth somewhere.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of LHP Rommie Lewis from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lewis posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 18 2/3 innings at the big league level last year. He'll operate as a lefty specialist with Trever Miller having been shipped out.

Blue Jays sent LHP Rommie Lewis outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lewis was designated for assignment after the Vernon Wells trade last Friday. The 28-year-old left-hander didn't draw much interest after posting a 7.59 ERA at the Triple-A level and a 6.75 ERA over 18 2/3 innings with the big club last season.

Blue Jays designated LHP Rommie Lewis for assignment.

They needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster after acquiring Mike Napoli and Juan Rivera in the Vernon Wells deal. Lewis made his major league debut this past season, producing a 6.75 ERA and a 7.2 K/9 rate in 18 2/3 relief innings before being shut down with a shoulder problem.

Blue Jays activated LHP Rommie Lewis from the 60-day disabled list.

Lewis turned in a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 14 relief appearances this year for the Jays before going down with a shoulder injury in mid-September. He will be aiming to earn a spot in Toronto's bullpen next spring.

Blue Jays placed LHP Rommie Lewis on the 60-day disabled list with a sore left shoulder.

Lewis posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 18 2/3 innings for the Jays this season before complaining of shoulder soreness this week. He will look to secure a spot in Toronto's bullpen next spring.

Rommie Lewis will have his left shoulder examined at the Blue Jays' complex in Florida.

"He was a little sore in Vegas, it's stems back to Triple-A, and what was going on there," said Blue Jays pitching coach Bruce Walton. "It was just minor tightness, but they're just going to check it out and see how he is, give him a clean bill of [health] before he goes back out there and pitches again." Lewis hasn't pitched since giving up four runs over one-third of an inning against the Rays on Saturday.

Blue Jays recalled LHP Rommie Lewis from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lewis, 28, tallied a 4.91 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 13 relief appearances for the Jays earlier this season. He's probably going to be a mop-up man.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Rommie Lewis to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lewis surrendered four earned runs in 1 2/3 innings of mop-up duty on Tuesday against the Rays. His stats up to that point had been fine, but the lack of effectiveness must have flipped a switch with Toronto management. He could rejoin the Jays down the road if there's an injury in the bullpen.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of LHP Rommie Lewis

Lewis, 27, posted a 2.86 ERA between Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Las Vegas last season. The former Orioles' farmhand had a 2.35 ERA over his first seven appearances with Vegas this season. Though he is a southpaw, it's worth noting that that left-handed batters have hit him at a .305 clip during his minor league career.

Orioles have removed 2001 fourth-round pick Rommie Lewis from the rotation at Single-A Frederick, where he has a 3.27 ERA in 20 starts.

Pulling Lewis from Frederick's rotation made room for LHP Ryan Hannaman, who was acquired from the Giants as part of the Sidney Ponson trade. It's also a part of the Orioles' plan not to overwork their young starting pitching prospects.
