Yankees released 1B/OF Garrett Jones.
Jones was designated for assignment for the second time last week and stated at the time that it would be difficult for him to remain with the organization. Jones hit just .215/.257/.361 with five homers and 17 RBI in 144 at-bats on the season. He'll look for a better opportunity elsewhere. Aug 20 - 7:33 PM

Yankees designated 1B/OF Garrett Jones for assignment.

It's the second time he's been DFA'd in the last two weeks, and Jones acknowledged to reporters on Wednesday that he would find it difficult to remain with the Yankees' organization this time around. The first baseman and corner outfielder will presumably elect free agency in search of a more regular gig.

Yankees re-signed 1B/OF Garrett Jones.

Jones was designated for assignment last week when the Yanks traded for Dustin Ackley, but they've brought him back with Ackley now on the disabled list. He'll see occasional playing time versus righties.

Yankees designated 1B/OF Garrett Jones for assignment.

The move makes room for Dustin Ackley on the roster. The Yankees thought they'd have more need for Jones this year, but who would have guessed Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez would be this healthy and productive? Jones hit just .215/.257/.361 with five homers in 144 at-bats in his lesser role. He might land another bench gig now, but his major league career doesn't figure to last a whole lot longer.
Jul 31 - 2:19 PM

Garett Jones homered again Wednesday as the Yankees swept a three-game series in Seattle.

Jones launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the top of the 11th inning Tuesday and then went deep to break a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth inning Wednesday. Jones could begin to muscle his way into more playing time, but this small stretch of clutch hitting doesn't suddenly give him relevance in standard fantasy leagues.
Jun 3 - 6:07 PM

Garrett Jones went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, helping the Yankees take down the Mariners in 11 innings on Tuesday.

Reliever Joe Beimel came in to face Jones with two men aboard in the 11th inning and Jones made him pay, sending the lefty's offering over the fence in right-center with plenty of room to spare. Jones has otherwise not done much in 62 plate appearances for the Yankees, batting .254/.290/.407 with two home runs and seven RBI.
Jun 3 - 2:05 AM

Garrett Jones went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against the Rays on Thursday.

Jones is hitting .175 with no homers and 10 strikeouts through 40 at-bats. If the Yankees wanted to carry their 25 best players coming out of camp, they'd probably consider keeping Rob Refsnyder over Jones, giving them a platoon partner for Stephen Drew at second base. There's not much chance of them going that route, though, and they still might need Jones when Mark Teixeira, Chase Headley or Alex Rodriguez gets hurt.
Mar 26 - 5:06 PM

Garrett Jones was scratched from Tuesday's Grapefruit League lineup due to illness.

He should be good to go in the next day or so. Jones was acquired from the Marlins this offseason along with Nathan Eovaldi and should get part-time at-bats between the DH spot, first base, and corner outfield spots this season.
Mar 10 - 9:28 AM

Facing his former team, Garrett Jones went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and a walk as the Yankees edged the Pirates 2-1 on Thursday.

Jones could well end up with 300 at-bats for the Yankees this year, but he'll be at the mercy of injuries for playing time initially. Fortunately for him, as old as the Yankees lineup is, DL stints figure to be pretty common.
Mar 5 - 5:00 PM

Yankees acquired 1B/OF Garrett Jones from the Marlins in the Nathan Eovaldi trade.

Jones hit .246/.309/.411 with 15 homers last season as the Marlins' main first baseman. He's been pretty good versus right-handed pitching in his career (.811 OPS) and offers a bit of versatility with the ability to play first base and the corner outfield spots.

Joe Frisaro of reports that Garrett Jones is generating trade interest.

The Marlins are getting calls on the heels of a reported agreement with free agent Michael Morse. Jones could stick around as a left-handed backup first baseman and outfielder, but Frisaro hears that he'll most likely be dealt. The 33-year-old is set to earn $5 million in 2015.

Garrett Jones had a solo homer and an RBI double versus the Brewers on Monday.

Jones took a seat in favor of Justin Bour against a right-hander on Friday and then didn't play against the lefty on Saturday, but he's 3-for-6 with three extra-base hits the last two days. That should be good enough to keep him in the lineup for the rest of the series against the Brewers, with Milwaukee throwing four straight right-handers.

Garrett Jones tripled, doubled and scored twice against the Nationals on Monday.

Jones seems to have come out of his slump, as he's now hit in six straight. Yesterday's hit was a homer, ending a drought that extended back to June 24.

Garrett Jones went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th to lead the Marlins to a 3-1 win over the Braves on Monday.

His first big hit in a while. In fact, Jones had driven in a total of six runs in a month, all of them coming in Marlins losses. The 10th got started tonight when Christian Yelich delivered a leadoff single off Shae Simmons. He was advanced on a sac bunt, at which point the Braves intentionally walked Giancarlo Stanton. Casey McGehee then worked a walk of his own, bringing up Jones. The Braves declined to counter with new lefty Chasen Shreve, and Jones delivered against Simmons.

Garrett Jones went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.

Jones homered in the eighth inning against B.J. Rosenberg to bring the Marlins within three, but by then, it was too little, too late. It was Jones' 10th homer of the season, and he has 34 RBI with a .257/.324/.441 slash line on the season. The 32-year-old has been a good find for the Marlins.
