Hector Gimenez - C - White Sox

Hector Gimenez left Monday's game after being hit on the left shin by a pitch.

Gimenez was unable to put much weight on the leg as he limped to the dugout. That said, he should be fine and wouldn't be due for another start for a while, anyway.

Hector Gimenez - C - White Sox

Hector Gimenez is expected to serve as the primary backup to White Sox catcher Tyler Flowers in 2013.

Despite playing just 11 major league games in his career, the 30-year-old backstop is in a position to earn his first significant playing time. A capable defender, who can also play the outfield in a pinch, Gimenez does have upside offensively. He's smashed 41 homers and driven home 183 runs over the last three seasons in the minor leagues, spanning 259 games. Should Tyler Flowers prove incapable of handling the job full-time, Gimenez could have value in deep two-catcher formats.

White Sox purchased the contract C Hector Gimenez from Triple-A Charlotte.

Gimenez will backup A.J. Pierzynski with Tyler Flowers on the paternity list. It's possible he could stick when rosters expand this weekend, but he's nothing more than organizational depth.

White Sox signed C Hector Gimenez to a minor league contract.

He's likely to get an invite to spring training, but only to serve as an extra backstop in camp. Gimenez picked up one hit in seven at-bats for the Dodgers last season in what was his first appearance back in the majors since 2006. He's merely organizational depth.

Dodgers sent C Hector Gimenez outright to Double-A Chattanooga.

Gimenez underwent right knee surgery in late April before returning to action a week ago. He was with the Dodgers early this season but is no guarantee to make it back later this year.

Dodgers transferred C Hector Gimenez from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

The Dodgers made the move to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Gimenez underwent right knee surgery at the end of April and was expected to miss around 3-6 weeks.

Hector Gimenez will undergo surgery on his right knee Tuesday.

It's not clear at this point what type of procedure he'll have or how long he'll be out, though he is expected to return at some point this season. Rod Barajas and A.J. Ellis will continue to handle the catching duties for the Dodgers.

Hector Gimenez (knee) has returned to Camelback Ranch in Arizona for another MRI.

Gimenez was placed on the disabled list last weekend with right knee soreness. Dioner Navarro is slated to return from the disabled list soon, so Gimenez will likely play with Triple-A Albuquerque once he's back to full health.

They needed to clear a roster spot for John Ely, who was recalled to start Sunday. A.J. Ellis will now be Rod Barajas' primary backup.

Back-up catcher Hector Gimenez also might play a little first base this season.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said shifting Gimenez on occasion "allows us some flexibility earlier in the game with guys off the bench." In addition, James Loney is one of the league's weakest-hitting first basemen, so replacing him in later innings would not necessarily hurt the team. As a result, Gimenez likely will get a few more at-bats this season.

Dodgers signed C Hector Gimenez to a minor league deal.

The switch-hitter is coming off a nice year at Double-A Altoona in the Pirates organization, where he batted .305/.384/.533 with 16 homers over 338 at-bats. It was easily his best offensive season in the minors, but keep in minor this was a 27-year-old (he's now 28) against Double-A pitching. The Dodgers might non-tender Russell Martin, but Gimenez isn't going to be anything more than a backup.

Hector Gimenez hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 11th as Venezuela moved to 2-0 in Caribbean Series play with a 1-0 win over Mexico on Tuesday.

Mexico and the Dominican Republic are 1-1, while Puerto Rico is 0-2. Gimenez, who recently signed a minor league deal with Pittsburgh, hit .335/.400/.517 in Venezuela this winter. He'll likely play at Triple-A Indianapolis this season.

Rays signed catcher Hector Gimenez, infielder-outfielder Chris Richard and outfielder Jon Weber to minor league contracts.

Gimenez was supposed to compete for the backup job in Houston last spring, but a torn right labrum ended his year before it began. He'll likely be no higher than fourth on the Rays' depth chart at catcher come March. Richard and Weber are being re-signed by the Rays. Richard, a former Cardinal and Oriole, hit .284/.384/.488 for Triple-A Durham last season.

Astros sent catcher Hector Gimenez and outfielder Mike Rodriguez outright to Triple-A Round Rock.

Gimenez was a candidate to serve as the Astros' backup catcher before suffering a torn labrum last spring. He could be re-signed to a minor league contract, but he'll almost certainly have to spend some time in Triple-A before he's again considered for a major league job.

It's obviously a tough break for Sale's fantasy owners, but the good news is that the move is viewed as precautionary and he's expected to be ready to start next Tuesday. Hector Santiago will get the ball Wednesday in Sale's place. He'll be pitching on three days' rest. May 21

	3	John Danks D.L. John Danks (shoulder) went 4 2/3 innings Saturday in his third minor league rehab start. If everything checks out with the left-hander early this week, he should be cleared to join the White Sox starting rotation on Friday night against the Marlins. Danks has been on the shelf all year and makes for a decent waiver stash right now in AL-only fantasy leagues. Since he's coming off shoulder surgery and still rebuilding his arm strength, it might not be wise to trust him right out of the gate in standard mixed formats. Even against Miami. May 20
	4	Gavin Floyd D.L. Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow. The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter. May 8
