Indians signed LHP Jesse English to a minor league contract.
English became a minor league free agent in November but took a while to draw offers because he is still in recovery mode from elbow surgery. The Tribe will use him as organizational depth once his health returns. Thu, Mar 24, 2011 07:41:00 PM

The surgery will repair bone chips in his left elbow. The 25-year-old southpaw posted a 3.86 ERA over seven appearances with the Nats in April and leaves behind a 5.03 ERA in 16 games with Triple-A Syracuse.

Giants designated LHP Jesse English for assignment.

Jesse English struck out nine in three hitless innings of relief for short-season Single-A Salem-Keiser on Saturday.

English looked like one of the Giants' better prospects for a time after being drafted out of high school in 2002, but he's battled arm problems through the years and is at a lower level of the minors now than he was as a 19-year-old in 2004. Still, he does have to be taken seriously again with a 41/4 K/BB ratio and a .157 average against in 23 2/3 innings as a reliever for the Volcanoes. He might have a future.
