Ross Ohlendorf earned his first career save on Friday, getting the final three outs against the Yankees.

He did allow a solo home run to Mark Teixeira, but was able to avoid any further damage. With Shawn Tolleson unavailable after working the previous two games, Rangers manager Jeff Bannister had to turn elsewhere and landed on Ohlendorf to protect a two-run advantage in the ninth. His usage speaks volumes about Neftali Feliz's current role in the Rangers bullpen.

Ohlendorf faced the minimum and struck out a whopping five batters. Following Yu Darvish's injury, there's a glimmer of hope for Ohlendorf to earn a spot in the Rangers' rotation, but he'll have to string together a few more impressive starts to have that conversation. Ohlendorf had been outrighted off the Nationals' 40-man roster and has now declined an assignment to Triple-A. The 32-year-old right-hander dealt with a back injury for much of the 2014 season, but he's shown flashes of promise in the past in both a relief and starting role, so there shouldn't be a lack of offers this winter.
