A former top prospect, Jackson had a decent amount of success early on with the Diamondbacks, but he hasn't done much since 2009. Slated to turn 31 in a few weeks, Jackson just missed out on an Opening Day roster spot with the Orioles and was off to a slow start at Triple-A. Jackson was competing for a bench role this spring. The Orioles will instead go with Steve Pearce on their Opening Day roster.

Conor Jackson hit his first two homers of the spring Sunday as the Orioles beat a Phillies split-squad 12-3.

Jackson took Kyle Kendrick and Jeremy Horst deep. It's one more homer than he had in 117 spring at-bats since the beginning of 2011. The veteran is one of a number of candidates competing for a spot as a right-handed bat off the bench and occasional DH for the Orioles.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Conor Jackson's achy back is showing improvement.

Jackson began feeling stiffness in his back Tuesday morning while taking infield practice. He should be ready to return to normal workouts by early next week but remains doubtful to crack the O's Opening Day roster.

Conor Jackson will receive treatment on his back Wednesday.

Jackson's back tightened up Tuesday while he was fielding ground balls, so he's not in either lineup for Wednesday's intrasquad game. This is par for the course for the 30-year-old, who has dealt with injury after injury over the past few seasons. He's a long shot to make the Opening Day roster.

Conor Jackson came off the field Tuesday after his back tightened up while taking ground balls.

Injuries have been a constant theme for Jackson over the years, but he downplayed the issue as minor and still hopes to play Saturday. The 30-year-old was given a non-roster invite by the Orioles this spring after he spent the entire 2012 season at Triple-A with the White Sox.

Jackson has struggled to get his career back on track after dealing with Valley Fever during the 2009 season. Still just 30-years-old, he posted a .277/.363/.434 line with nine homers and 41 RBI in 88 games with Triple-A Charlotte and should be able to find another organization willing to take a chance on him.

Jackson was released by the Rangers earlier this week and will open the season in Triple-A Charlotte. The 29-year-old batted just .077 (2-for-26) with one home run and six strikeouts this spring.

Conor Jackson is listed as ''day-to-day'' after being hit in the head with a fly ball during Friday's game against the Angels.

The injury required five stitches, but Jackson doesn't appear to have any concussion symptoms. The Rangers are expected to limit his workload going into next week.

Conor Jackson needed five stitches to close a gash above his left eye after being hit in the head with a fly ball during Friday's game against the Angels.

Ouch. Jackson attempted to catch a fly ball off the bat of Josh Fields in the sixth inning, but lost it in the sun and ended up being hit in the face after the ball deflected off his glove. While that's the perfect storm of embarrassing and painful, he'll likely be back in the lineup in the next day or so.

Conor Jackson left Friday's game against the Angels in the sixth inning after losing a ball in the sun and being hit in the head.

No immediate word on his status, but the Rangers will likely provide an update after the game. Jackson, a non-roster player, is 1-for-7 with a homer and three strikeouts so far this spring.

He'll also get a spring training invite. Jackson, 29, batted just .244/.310/.341 with five homers, 43 RBI and a .651 OPS over 114 games last season between the Athletics and Red Sox. He has struggled to stay healthy over the past couple of seasons, but his versatility could put him in the mix for a spot on the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Athletics still have some interest in free agent Conor Jackson.

Jackson was mentioned as a possibility when the A's were trying to replenish their outfield earlier this winter, but he remains on their radar even after this week's signing of Jonny Gomes. The 29-year-old batted .244/.310/.341 with five homers, 43 RBI and a .651 OPS over 114 games last season between the A's and Red Sox.
