Ryan Sweeney (hamstring) is likely done for the season.

Sweeney went on the DL last week with another hamstring injury, and he's just not going to have enough time to get back. He ends the season with a .251/.304/.338 batting line over just 77 contests. Sweeney is under contract for $1.5 million next season.

Cubs placed OF Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Sweeney, who suffered the injury Tuesday, has now spent time on the disabled list this year with injuries to both hamstrings. He'll be back sometime next month.

Aug 26 - 8:47 PM

Ryan Sweeney homered and drove home four runs on Friday, powering the Cubs to a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals in an afternoon matinee at Wrigley Field.

Sweeney got the Cubs on the board in the second inning with a three-run shot off Joe Kelly, then tacked on an RBI single his next time up. Even with the 2-for-4 effort though, he’s hitting a mere .221/.264/.302 on the season and has little value outside of NL-only formats.
Jul 25 - 8:00 PM

Ryan Sweeney went 2-for-5 and drove home a pair of runs as the Cubs topped the Nationals on Friday afternoon.

Sweeney, hitting out of the leadoff spot in the Cubs lineup, delivered a two-run single off Tanner Roark in the fourth inning to increase the Cubs advantage to 4-1. He has struggled at the plate this season, hitting a mere .209/.245/.242 through his first 99 at-bats.
Jun 27 - 7:22 PM

Cubs activated OF Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list.

Sweeney missed the last six weeks with a strained hamstring. With Emilio Bonifacio (ribs) on the shelf, Sweeney should see plenty of playing time in center field.
Jun 13 - 3:58 PM

Ryan Sweeney (hamstring) is set to begin a rehab assignment Monday night with Low-A Kane County.

Sweeney has been on the disabled list since May 3 with a strained hamstring. If all goes well, he should be back on the Cubs' active roster by the end of this week.
Jun 9 - 3:48 PM

Ryan Sweeney is expected to start a rehab assignment in the coming week.

He'll begin with Class A Kane County and progress from there. The outfielder has been on the disabled list since May 3 with a right hamstring strain.
Jun 7 - 4:30 PM

Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Saturday that Ryan Sweeney has suffered a setback in his recovery from a strained right hamstring.

The initial timetable called for Sweeney to return in late-May, so though the severity of the setback isn't known, it's unlikely that he'll return until June. The Cubs will continue to play matchups and utilize the outfielders that they have to the best of their abilities.
May 17 - 11:37 AM

Ryan Sweeney (hamstring) is likely to be sidelined 3-4 weeks.

Sweeney has been diagnosed with a "moderate" right hamstring strain, which is actually not as bad as they initially feared. Cubs manager Rick Renteria even indicated that it's possible the outfielder would return in two weeks, though he conceded that the 3-4 week timetable was more realistic.
May 4 - 9:08 AM

Cubs placed OF Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring injury.

Sweeney sustained the injury during Friday's game against the Cardinals. There's still no word yet on the severity of the injury or a potential timetable for his return. Chris Coghlan was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday and will provide additional depth in the outfield while Sweeney is sidelined. Junior Lake should also see increased playing time.
May 3 - 10:06 AM

Ryan Sweeney went for an MRI on his right hamstring after being removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals.

The teams still hasn't provided an update on the severity of the injury, but it seems likely that he's heading for a trip on the disabled list. Junior Lake figures to see increased time in the outfield while Sweeney is sidelined.
May 2 - 7:00 PM

Ryan Sweeney left Friday's game against the Cardinals with a right hamstring strain.

Sweeney was able to make a nice running catch in the eighth inning even after pulling up. He walked gingerly off the field and is almost surely headed to the disabled list.

Ryan Sweeney went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in a losing effort against the Brewers on Friday.

He also drew a walk in the contest, raising his still disappointing season slash to .205/.280/.227. While he's playing nearly everyday against right-handed pitching, he remains best used in deep NL-only formats.
