Marlins released infielder Lenny Harris.

The Marlins hardly needed a pinch-hitting specialist when they'll be fortunate to avoid losing 100 games. Harris, the all-time leader in pinch-hits, probably won't land a job on another roster by Opening Day.

Marlins re-signed infielder Lenny Harris to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Harris did his job well last season, but it's still past time he was made a coach. The Marlins will likely keep using him pretty strictly as a pinch-hitter.

Pinch-hitter Lenny Harris hit his first homer of the year tonight off Kyle Farnsworth to help the Marlins beat the Braves 5-2.

It could be the last hit of Harris' career, but since he's hitting .303 in 69 at-bats, he'll probably get offers to hang around for another year.

Lenny Harris went on a postgame tirade on Wendesday that apparently inspired his teammates.

Harris could be heard through closed doors delivering an expletive-laden tirade in which he told teammates to ''to stop feeling sorry for ourselves'' and ``stop disrespecting each other.'' ''I was just trying to tell them let's not get into those losing ways,'' Harris said. ``We've worked too hard to get to where we're at.'' It must have worked, as the Marlins hung on to beat the Cards.

Lenny Harris' 200th career pinch-hit was an RBI single today against the Nationals.

Harris, who is in his age-40 season, topped 400 at-bats only twice in his career, in 1990 and 1991 with the Dodgers. That he has a good season's worth of hits as a pinch-hitter is quite impressive.

Lenny Harris is one hit shy of having 200 pinch-hits in his career.

While it doesn't mean much in the fantasy world, and it's not a glamourous statistic, it's a pretty amazing achievement.

Lenny Harris was hitless in four at-bats tonight and is 4-for-29 with no extra-base hits this spring.

It's a good thing Harris no longer has to compete for jobs. He's still expected to be Florida's 25th man.

Marlins signed infielder Lenny Harris to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

It's not a guaranteed deal. That must be progress. Harris isn't at all worthy of a roster spot, but it would be a surprise if the Marlins don't carry him for another year.

The Marlins have offered free agent Lenny Harris a one-year, $400,000 contract to stay with the club.

It's the same amount Harris received last year, and it appears that he will accept the contract and remain an absolutely terrible use of a roster spot. Harris can't be blamed for wanting to keep playing, but it has to suck to be a Triple-A veteran and see this kind of thing happen again and again.

Lenny Harris was given a second straight start in right field tonight and went 0-for-3 before being removed as part of a double-switch.

Hopefully, this is the extent to which the Marlins are going to give Harris his proper sendoff. In Chris Aguila, the team does have a reserve outfielder with some kind of a future on its roster and it's time to figure out what he can do.

Lenny Harris, who turns 40 in October, intends to continue his career next season.

Baseball's all-time pinch-hits leader stands at 193, and would like to reach 200. He has 12 pinch-hits for the Marlins this season.

Lenny Harris today is making his first start since hurting his right hamstring a week ago.

Harris is playing right field and batting cleanup in place of Miguel Cabrera.
Sat, May 29, 2004 05:43:00 PM

Lenny Harris, who left Saturday's game with tightness in his right hamstring, was used as a pinch-hitter today and flied out.

Harris is 2-for-14 as a pinch-hitter this year, though he is 5-for-12 while playing left field.
Sun, May 23, 2004 06:21:00 PM

Lenny Harris left today's game in the fourth inning with tightness in his right hamstring.

That's what the Marlins get for asking Harris to start three games in a row. The good news is that losing Harris isn't really a loss at all, even if he did have a nifty couple of days.
