Eric Young left the Rangers for a couple of days for personal reasons.

The Rangers won't be in any rush to get him back. Since they're no longer in contention, they're content to use younger players.

In his Rangers debut, Eric Young tripled and doubled Monday against the A's.

Young hadn't played since being called up on Aug. 25. Despite the fine game today, he's probably not going to see much action the rest of the way. He can be an upgrade against left-handers, but being 10 games out in the loss column, the Rangers might as well give the at-bats to younger players.

Rangers purchased the contract of outfielder Eric Young from Triple-A Oklahoma.

Nelson Cruz has been struggling, so perhaps Young will take over as Matt Stairs' platoonmate and start against left-handers. If it happens, it might be only a short-term thing, as the Rangers would have no reason to stick with Young if they fall completely out of the race. There's little reason to pick up Young in AL-only leagues.

Rangers signed outfielder Eric Young to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma.

Young, who was cut by the Padres on Aug. 1, hit .288/.377/.381 in 344 at-bats for the Rangers in 2004. He'll probably be called up to join the bench in September.

Padres released outfielder Eric Young.

Young was still doing a respectable job against lefties (764 OPS), but he was terrible against righties, giving him a .203/.281/.313 line in 128 at-bats. Also, manager Bruce Bochy was no longer interested in using him in the infield at all, taking away a lot of his value. He could still be a useful bench player elsewhere, especially once rosters expand and he can contribute more as a pinch-runner.

Eric Young drove in Mike Cameron with a sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning to give the Padres a 6-5 lead over the Giants on Sunday.

Cameron tripled off reliever Brian Wilson to start the inning before Young drove him in. Trevor Hoffman then pitched a scoreless bottom of the inning to make a winner out of Jon Adkins. The win gives the Padres a half game lead over the Giants in the NL West.

Because of a .319 career average against Jason Schmidt, Eric Young got the start in left field for the Padres tonight.

Young doubled and delivered a sac fly against Schmidt, so it turned out to be a good choice. Terrmel Sledge is still expected to start against most right-handers while Mike Cameron is out.

Padres agreed to terms with infielder-outfielder Eric Young on a one-year, $700,000 contract.

Young hit .275/.356/.380 in 142 AB for the Padres last season. He missed half the year with a dislocated shoulder suffered while making a catch against the wall in center field. What happens over the rest of the winter will help determine how much playing time Young gets next season. If Dave Roberts is kept and used in left field, Young could act as his platoon partner against left-handers. It's more likely that the Padres will go with someone who doesn't need a platoon partner, giving Young less of an opportunity to contribute.

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Padres and Eric Young have agreed to terms on a one-year, $700,000 contract.

It's the same as if the Padres had picked up his $850,000 option for 2006. They gave him a $150,000 buyout when they declined it.

Free agent Eric Young is expected to re-sign with the Padres.

Young's option was declined earlier this month, but the Padres still want him, especially now that they have Geoff Blum back. Blum is best on the left side of the infield, whereas Young plays second base, left field and center field.

Now that they have Geoff Blum back, the Padres are more interested in re-signing Eric Young.

His strengths do complement Blum's fairly well. Young's $850,000 option was declined earlier this month. He could be brought back at a similar salary to the $650,000 that Blum will earn.

Padres declined infielder-outfielder Eric Young's $850,000 club option for 2006.

He relieves a $150,000 buyout. Young, who missed about half of last season with a dislocated shoulder, hit .275/.356/.380 in 142 AB. We wouldn't be surprised to see him head to Colorado. His son currently plays in the Rockies' farm system.

Eric Young started in left field versus Pirates left-hander Dave Williams and went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI tonight.

The homer was just Young's second since being dealt to the Giants at the trade deadline in 2003.

Eric Young made his first start in left field since returning from the disabled list on July 2.

He'd been out all year with a dislocated throwing shoulder suffered in first game of the year, and looked good fielding the ball. However, his throw from left field to third base barely got there, and opposing teams should be running on him every chance they get.
