Braves signed RHP Tim Corcoran to a minor league contract.
Corcoran hasn't appeared in the majors since 2007 and spent last season with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate. The 34-year-old right-hander is merely organizational depth. Wed, Dec 19, 2012 11:07:00 AM

Tim Corcoran was designated for assignment by the Devil Rays.

He's been stashed on the roster of the Double-A Montgomery team while he deals with a right elbow strain, but the Rays needed the space on the 40-man roster when they purchased the contract of catcher Raul Casanova. Corcoran told Montgomery he'd like to return to the club for the playoffs once he clears waivers.

Devil Rays activated RHP Tim Corcoran from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Double-A Montgomery.

Corcoran has been out since June with a right elbow strain.

Devil Rays transferred RHP Tim Corcoran from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Corcoran has been out since June 9 with a strained right elbow.

Devil Rays placed RHP Tim Corcoran on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9, with a right elbow strain.

This explains why the Rays reversed course and designated Ruddy Lugo for assignment today. Corcoran was expected to be designated for assignment, but the injury puts him on the DL instead. We could argue that Durham second baseman Elliot Johnson was the next most expendable player on the 40-man, but he's 23 and a switch-hitter, so it makes some sense that the Rays wanted to keep him.

Devil Rays optioned RHP Tim Corcoran to Triple-A Durham.

Corcoran is expected to be designated for assigment if the Rays are successful in signing Jay Witasick, as the club will need to open up a 40-man roster spot. Corcoran had a 6.75 ERA in 17 1/3 innings.

Devil Rays recalled RHP Tim Corcoran from Triple-A Durham.

Steve Andrade and Seth McClung had the best ERAs in Durham's pen, but the Rays bypassed them for Corcoran and Chad Orvella. Corcoran went 5-9 with a 4.38 ERA in 16 starts and five relief appearances for the Rays last season. He'll be used in middle relief.

Tim Corcoran yielded two hits over three scoreless innings of relief Tuesday versus the Phillies.

Corcoran is one of the longer shots to become the Rays' fifth starter, but he's also a possibility to win a job in relief. He's given up four runs in seven innings this spring.

Tim Corcoran shut out the Red Sox for 6 2/3 innings as Tampa Bay humilated Boston 11-0 on Wednesday.

Corcoran finished 5-9, 4.38 with 59 Ks in 90 1/3 IP. He struck out seven and gave up just four hits, but walked five. Control is constantly a problem for Corcoran (48 walks) and it led to a horrible second half, especially during the final month. It's nice that he ended the year on a good note, but he is by no means guaranteed a job in 2007.

Tim Corcoran, shifted to the bullpen on Wednesday, may get one more start.

Manager Joe Maddon would like to get Corcoran another start. He looked better in his last outing, but remains winless since July 9.

Tim Corcoran managed to get just one batter out before being lifted from his start Tuesday night.

He was shelled for seven runs, five hits and two walks as his ERA soared to 4.75. Corcoran has been shut out of the win column since July 9. He's been better than expected as a starter, but his future likely lies in middle relief.

Tim Corcoran pitched well enough to win Wednesday, but remained without a victory since July 9.

In 5 1/3 innings, he gave up six hits and just one run, walking two and striking out seven. But Corcoran was done after 105 pitches and the Rays' pen folded in the eighth, denying him a chance at victory.

Tom Corcoran took a loss for the sixth straight decision on Thursday after yielding four runs -- three earned -- in six innings against the Rangers.

He gave up five hits and two walks while striking out four and throwing 56-of-100 pitches for strikes. The right-hander had recorded four wins in four straight outings earlier in the season, so his current streak is just luck evening out. The Devil Rays will probably keep Corcoran in the rotation since his 4.16 ERA is better than they can expect of any alternatives, but he's not an option in fantasy leagues.

Tim Corcoran took a loss for the second time in three starts after yielding five runs -- three earned -- in 3 1/3 innings against the Yankees tonight.

Corcoran gave up seven hits and walked six, so he's probably lucky to come out of the outing being charged with just three earned runs. He struggled against the Orioles last time out as well, so we wouldn't recommend using him versus the Tigers next time out. The Rays should put him back in the pen where he belongs.

Tim Corcoran lasted just three innings against the Orioles on Saturday after three runs on seven hits in a no-decision.

He also walked four and struck out three, thus leading to a pitch count of 82 after just the nine outs. The Devil Rays later scored 10 runs in the fifth to prevent a loss. The outing was the second straight in which Corcoran didn't record a quality start, and we expect more struggles as the league adjusts to the rookie.
