Orioles placed LHP Omar Daal on the 60-day disabled list following left shoulder surgery.

Daal isn't due back until July or August, and he may not be a part of Baltimore's plans by then.

Omar Daal will miss at least three months after having surgery on his left shoulder.

During the surgery, Dr. James Andrews cleaned up some fraying of the rotator cuff, placed a stitch on Daal's partially detached labrum and shaved the clavicle for more flexibility. Daal likely will be used as a reliever once he returns in July.

An MRI revealed slight fraying around Omar Daal's rotator cuff. He'll probably miss the first month of the season.

Daal could have exploratory surgery on the shoulder, but that won't be decided until after he sees Dr. James Andrews next week. With Daal set to start off on the DL, it's likely that the Orioles will keep just 11 pitchers initially. Maybe that means there will be room on the roster for Rule 5 pick Jose Bautista.

Omar Daal experienced soreness in the back of his left shoulder while throwing today. He'll undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Daal missed over two months last year with what was called rotator-cuff tendinitis. It's the same area that's bothering him again, and he's afraid he might need surgery. Even if he doesn't, the problem likely will remove him from the competition to be Baltimore's fifth starter.

Omar Daal pitched yesterday in a minor league game and gave up six runs -- three earned -- in five innings.

Daal should soon be eliminated from the competition for a rotation spot. He could be released unless the Orioles decide to carry a 12th pitcher.
Sun, Mar 21, 2004 12:19:00 PM

Omar Daal allowed two runs in four innings versus the Twins today.

Daal hasn't pitched terribly this spring, but he also hasn't given much reason for optimism that he can actually help the Orioles this season. Unless an injury strikes, it wouldn't be surprising to see him get released at the end of the month.
Mon, Mar 15, 2004 06:00:00 PM

Omar Daal bounced back from a lousy first outing to hold the Marlins scoreless for three innings today.

Daal probably kept himself in the mix for a rotation spot with the performance, but Matt Riley still should be ahead of him and Rick Bauer is pitching too well to be ignored.
Wed, Mar 10, 2004 06:59:00 PM

Omar Daal was charged with four runs and seven hits in two innings of work in Baltimore's 6-0 loss to the Marlins.

Daal is coming off a miserable 2003 and is fantasy baseball cancer. Matt Riley is the other leading candidate for the Birds' fifth rotation spot.

Pitcher Omar Daal left yesterday's workout because of tightness in his left quadriceps muscle.

Daal will battle for a spot in the rotation with Matt Riley.
Sun, Feb 29, 2004 11:34:00 AM

Omar Daal was pounded for seven runs over 1 2/3 innings in a loss to the Red Sox tonight.

Daal concludes his first season with the Orioles at 4-11 with a 6.34 ERA. He'll be back with the team next year, but he shouldn't be handed a rotation spot.
Thu, Sep 25, 2003 11:03:00 PM

In his first start since coming off the DL, Omar Daal surrendered two runs in four innings Friday against the Blue Jays.

Daal likely will get one final start next week.
Sat, Sep 20, 2003 12:06:00 AM

Omar Daal will make his first start since June 23 on Friday against Toronto.

Daal may or may not be replacing Matt Riley in the rotation. The Orioles are considering shutting down their young left-hander. Obviously, Daal isn't worth picking up.
Wed, Sep 17, 2003 11:18:00 PM

Orioles activated LHP Omar Daal from the 15-day disabled list.

Daal will join the bullpen for now, but he could get a start next week.
Wed, Sep 10, 2003 04:16:00 PM

Manager Mike Hargrove said he'll probably put Omar Daal in the bullpen for one or two outings before giving the left-hander a start.

Don't pick up Daal. The Orioles are being kind to give him a start.
