Cliff Floyd has accepted a broadcasting job with FOX Sports Florida.
Floyd hasn't signed any official retirement papers and is still hoping an interested team will call. But, for now, he likes the new challenge. "I dont know where it’s going to go but to get comfortable with it won’t hurt," said the 37-year-old former outfielder. "I haven’t officially retired so if someone calls and they need a big left off the bench, call me up." Mon, Feb 22, 2010 09:32:00 PM

Padres released outfielder Cliff Floyd.

It was a lost season for Floyd, who hit .125 in just 16 at-bats for the Padres. The 36-year-old, whose shoulder was never quite right this year, may call it a career.

Cliff Floyd (shoulder, knee) will join the Padres in Denver this weekend.

Floyd was placed on the disabled list with a strained shoulder April 6. He later had discomfort in his right knee, which he had drained in April. Drew Macias is likely the odd man out, according to Corey Brock. Floyd should bring some welcome offense to the club. Brian Giles could lose a little bit of playing time.

Cliff Floyd (shoulder, knee) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Lake Elsinore.

Floyd will serve as the designated hitter for the rest of the week and could begin playing the field this weekend. He's been on the disabled list all season after inking a one-year, $750,000 contract in February.

Cliff Floyd (shoulder, knee) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week.

Floyd no longer has a problem with the shoulder injury that landed him on the disabled list in the first place, but still feels discomfort in the knee he had drained in April. He's been jogging for over a week and just recently began taking batting practice. A late May return seems realistic.

Cliff Floyd tested his injured right knee with a few minutes of running Wednesday night at PETCO Park.

Floyd will work out with increased intensity over the next few days to see how his knee responds. "It's not just one thing, it's the dynamic of the whole knee he's trying to manage," manager Bud Black said. He's still a few weeks from returning.

Cliff Floyd, on the disabled list with a shoulder injury, is expected to have an MRI on his right knee on Thursday.

The positive news is that Floyd's shoulder "seems to be under control" according to manager Bud Black, but it remains to be seen how much time the setback with the knee will cost him.

Cliff Floyd, who is on the disabled list with a stiff shoulder, had his knee drained in Philadelphia last weekend.

Floyd had been gearing up for a rehab assignment that was originally scheduled to begin on Monday night when he felt some soreness in his knee. It's not clear how long the delay will be, but his goal of returning in April now seems far-fetched.

Cliff Floyd has been sidelined since Wednesday with an aggravated right shoulder.

Floyd suffered the injury on a hard swing. "He's getting better, improving. The next 24 to 48 hours will be important. But I think he's still in good shape [to be on the 25-man roster]," manager Bud Black said.

Luckily for the Padres they aren't counting on the oft-injured, 36-year-old Floyd to be more than a part-time player and bench bat this season.
