Olmedo Saenz has taken a job as a hitting coach for the White Sox's Rookie ball team in Great Falls.
Saenz sat out last season after failing to make the Mets out of spring training. He did sign with the Nats at the end of March, but he decided against reporting to Triple-A Columbus. Saenz finishes a nine-year major league career with a .263/.340/.465 line and 73 homers in 1,663 at-bats. Unfortunately, no one believed in him until the A's gave him a shot at age 28. Nationals signed infielder Olmedo Saenz to a minor league contract.

Saenz, cut by the Mets last week, will report to Triple-A Columbus. He's insurance in the event of an injury to Nick Johnson or Dmitri Young.

Mets reassigned infielder Olmedo Saenz to minor league camp.

The Mets didn't have room on their bench for a player who was only an option at first base. The 37-year-old Saenz may opt for retirement.

Mets agreed to terms with first baseman Olmedo Saenz on a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Saenz was once a fantastic platoon starter capable of handling third base defensively, but he's now limited to first base and hit just .191 last season with the Dodgers. New York has no shortage of bench options, so the 37-year-old Saenz will face an uphill battle to crack the Opening Day roster.

Dodgers sent first baseman Olmedo Saenz and RHP Roberto Hernandez outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Both were scheduled to become free agents anyway. This just gets them off the 40-man roster a little earlier.

Pinch-hitter Olmedo Saenz hit a two-run homer off Jeremy Accardo in the bottom of the 10th to give the Dodgers a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Saenz has hit three homers in 49 at-bats, while regular first baseman Nomar Garciaparra has one in 226 at-bats. Saenz isn't an option as a regular these days, but giving him some more playing time would make sense. It will happen when the Dodgers are in AL parks.

Olmedo Saenz doubled, homered and scored three runs on Sunday.

He doesn't start very often, but he sure took advantage of it today, smacking his first homer of the year and also drawing a walk while lifting his BA to .231.

Olmedo Saenz, getting a rare start against a right-hander, went 3-for-4 with a solo homer against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Nomar Garciaparra needed a day off, so Saenz was given some action even with right-hander Anthony Reyes on the mound. Saenz is batting .310 with eight homers and 36 RBI, making him a fantastic end-gamer in NL-only leagues.

Olmedo Saenz made his second straight start at third base on Monday, but he went 0-for-4 and committed an error.

Willy Aybar started the previous couple of games, but he was benched after making two misplays on Saturday. Aybar probably is the Dodgers' best choice at third while Bill Mueller recovers. Maybe he'll return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Olmedo Saenz went 1-for-4 Saturday in his first start of the season at third base.

With Jose Cruz Jr. back in the lineup and Saenz playing third base while Bill Mueller is on the mend, Dodgers manager Grady Little is making better choices the last two days.

Olmedo Saenz went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBI in Thursday's victory.

Saenz is off to a great start for the second straight year. He's 10-for-22 with two homers and 11 RBI. Until Nomar Garciaparra gets back, the Dodgers might begin giving Saenz starts over James Loney against righties.

Olmedo Saenz, who was removed from Wednesday's game with a back injury, returned as a pinch-hitter today and hit an RBI double off Phillies reliever Aaron Fultz.

He'll probably get the next start at first base against a left-hander.

Olmedo Saenz was removed from Wednesday's game after four innings with a back injury.

Saenz was hurt on the same bunt play as Horacio Ramirez, though he remained in initially. James Loney replaced him at first base.

Dodgers re-signed infielder Olmedo Saenz to a two-year, $2 million contract.

Saenz, 35, was a very good part-time player last season, hitting .263/.325/.480 in a career-high 319 at-bats. He looks like a worthy starter against left-handers, but the Dodgers probably won't have anywhere to play him once they move Jeff Kent to first base.
Wed, Dec 7, 2005 07:25:00 PM

The Dodgers and free agent Olmedo Saenz have agreed to a new two-year deal.

Even though Jeff Kent might be at first base by midseason? Saenz might not be more than a pinch-hitter if Kent plays first. As things stand now, Saenz and Hee Seop Choi could platoon a first base until Kent slides over. Saenz isn't an option as a full-time third baseman, though he can still play there once in a while.
