Dodgers designated OF Garret Anderson for assignment.

With a .181 batting mark over 155 at-bats, it's pretty clear the 38-year-old doesn't have anything left. Jay Gibbons had his contract purchased from Triple-A to replace Anderson on the roster.

Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times writes that the Dodgers could designate Garret Anderson for assignment when Reed Johnson is ready to come off the disabled list.

Anderson is a respected veteran, but it's hard to argue with Dilbeck's premise. The 38-year-old outfielder is batting a meager .178/.193/.274 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 135 at-bats this season. Dilbeck writes that the Dodgers could be forced to make a decision when Reed Johnson is eligible to come off the disabled list later this month.

Garret Anderson went 0-for-4 in Thursday's loss to the Reds, dropping his average to .165.

Can't Anderson join Darin Erstad in announcing his retirment? Maybe a show of solidarity? Let's see if we can't get Scott Spiezio involved, too.

Garret Anderson plated Matt Kemp with a single in the 14th inning as the Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks 1-0 in extra innings for a second straight day Wednesday.

The Dodgers have pitched 24 scoreless innings against Arizona over the last 24 hours, and the reeling Diamondbacks have now lost 10 straight. Anderson's single to center barely dropped in front of a diving Chris Young, giving him his first hit in his last 11 at-bats. He's hitting just .157 in 83 at-bats this season.

Garret Anderson has been awarded a spot on the Dodgers' bench.

Anderson, 38 in June, hit a disappointing .268/.303/.401 with 13 home runs, and 61 RBI in 496 at-bats last season for the Braves, but he is 9-for-26 (.346) this spring with three RBI. Doug Mientkiewicz was left in the dust by the decision and is deciding whether to accept an assignment to Triple-A.

Garret Anderson, who was signed to a minor league contract last week, is currently working out at first base.

Anderson has never appeared at first base in the majors, but the versatility would help his chances of finding his way back on a major league roster. "We'll see where this goes," Anderson said. "I've got an opportunity here and I'll try to make the most of it." The 37-year-old is currently about a week away from game action.

Dodgers signed OF Garret Anderson to a minor league contract.

Anderson, 38 in June, hit a disappointing .268/.303/.401 with 13 home runs, and 61 RBI in 496 at-bats last season for the Braves. He will serve as a backup corner-outfielder and late-innings pinch-hitter if he lands on the Dodgers' Opening Day roster. Not a terrible addition.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have agreed to a minor league contract with Garret Anderson.

A quality addition for the Dodgers, who have been borderline disappointing this offseason. Anderson, 38 in June, batted .268/.303/.401 with 13 home runs, and 61 RBI in 496 at-bats last season for the Braves. He has an 808 OPS against right-handers over the course of his 16-year career.

The Braves and Reds could be in the mix for free agent outfielder Garret Anderson, according to SI.com's Jon Heyman.

The Reds would seem to be done with their outfield shopping after signing Jonny Gomes Monday, but maybe not. Anderson, who turns 38 in June, batted .268/.303/.401 with 13 home runs, and 61 RBI last season for the Braves. A poor defender with a rapidly declining bat is not a good recipe for even a fourth outfielder, especially with better options still available, but perhaps agent Scott Boras can convince a team otherwise.

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers have been in contact with agent Scott Boras in regards to free agent outfielder Garret Anderson.

Anderson, who turns 38 in June, batted .268/.303/.410 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI and a 705 OPS last season. If signed, he would be the team's fourth outfielder. Rating poor with defensive metrics, this means that Jason Repko and Xavier Paul would compete to be the team's fifth outfielder and backup center fielder.

Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Dodgers have interest in free agent Garret Anderson, among others, as a potential fourth outfielder.

The Dodgers figured to add a veteran outfielder to the mix and should be able to find a reasonable bargain in the coming weeks. Anderson, 37, batted .268/.303/.410 with 13 home runs, 61 RBI and a 705 OPS last season, mediocre production for a player who brings little to the table defensively. Once the Dodgers secure a fourth outfielder, Jason Repko and Xavier Paul are expected to battle it out for one spot.

Garret Anderson went 0-for-5 on Sunday to finish the series against the Reds 1-for-12 with three strikeouts.

That month of July was nice, but Anderson has been a terrible liability of late. Since the beginning if August, he's hit .244 with six extra-base hits and five walks in 119 at-bats. Driving in runs was always his forte, but he has just 51 RBI in 402 at-bats this year, and he's certainly not making up for it with his defense or on-base skills. The Braves never should have signed him in the first place.

Garrett Anderson went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as the Braves topped the Phillies 9-1 on Saturday night.

Anderson and the rest of the Braves starters somehow figured out the Phillies' Cliff Lee. Four home runs were blasted, 14 total hits were tallied, and the Braves escaped with a huge win over a division rival. Anderson is batting .292 this season with 12 home runs and 50 RBI.

Garret Anderson is back in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Anderson missed the last three contests with a lower back strain.
