Astros designated RHP Philip Humber for assignment.

Humber was a disaster in the rotation for the 'Stros, and his fate was sealed after he gave up five runs over 2/3 of an inning in relief on Saturday. Overall, he posted a 9.59 ERA and 2.02 WHIP with Houston. Despite the struggles, he'll have no trouble catching on somewhere else. It will just probably be on a minor league deal.
May 12 - 10:46 AM

Philip Humber has been demoted to the bullpen.

Humber had a horrific 8.82 ERA and 1.93 WHIP through seven starts. He will presumably serve as a long reliever. Dallas Keuchel is taking the vacant rotation spot.
May 8 - 5:18 PM

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said he and manager Bo Porter have discussed the possibility of removing Philip Humber from the rotation.

Humber has taken a loss in all seven starts this season and sports an 8.82 ERA and 1.93 WHIP. "That's really a decision Bo needs to make, and I'm sure he'll make it at the appropriate time," Luhnow said. "We believe Humber is a Major League pitcher and can add value to our team. For now, no decision has been made about any different roles on the pitching side at this point."
May 6 - 8:51 PM

Phil Humber was shelled for eight runs in just four innings of work in a loss Sunday to the Tigers.

Humber gave up three home runs, including a two-run shot to Prince Fielder in the first inning. He's now lost seven straight games to open the season and has a 8.82 ERA. It's hard to believe that Humber still has a rotation spot at this point. He'll likely be moved to the bullpen if he continues to struggle.
May 5 - 8:13 PM

Phil Humber allowed four runs over six innings as the Astros lost to the Yankees on Tuesday.

Humber probably got off light, as he surrendered nine hits and two walks on the evening while throwing four wild pitches. He's now 0-6 on the year with a 7.58 ERA. His next start comes Sunday against the Tigers.
Apr 30 - 11:26 PM

Astros manager Bo Porter said Friday that Philip Humber will remain in the starting rotation.

Humber had a 2.89 ERA through his first three starts, but he has been knocked around for 15 runs in five innings over his last two starts, bringing his ERA up to 7.99 for the year. It's not like the Astros have many great alternatives, so they'll stick with him for now. However, he's mostly irrelevant in fantasy leagues.
Apr 26 - 5:52 PM

Philip Humber was pounded for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Red Sox in a loss Thursday.

Humber has lost all five of his starts this season, though he had a fine 2.89 ERA after the first three. It's only in the last two that he's been lit up, so his rotation spot is safe for now.
Apr 25 - 10:08 PM

Philip Humber recorded only one out before being removed from Saturday's game against the Indians.

The Tribe ripped him for eight earned runs on eight hits and a walk. Humber was pretty solid in his first three starts this season but it all came apart on Saturday night. The 30-year-old righty is not fantasy-relevant.
Apr 20 - 11:00 PM

Phil Humber gave up two runs over seven innings in Sunday's loss to the Angels.

It's the second consecutive game Humber has posted a quality start. He walked one, struck out four, and allowed seven hits before being removed with 92 pitches. Humber has a 2.89 ERA through three starts this season and should continue to have value in AL-only leagues.
Apr 14 - 7:10 PM

Philip Humber posted a quality start but suffered a loss Monday, allowing three runs over six frames against the Mariners.

He walked one and gave up just five hits, only one of which went for extra bases, but that was enough as the M’s held down the Astros’ feeble offense. Humber has pitched pretty well in both of his starts but is now 0-2. He’ll try for his first win this weekend in Anaheim.
Apr 9 - 12:58 AM

Philip Humber allowed one run in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Rangers.

So now you know why we didn't project any Astros starters to reach double figures in wins this year. Humber looked good this spring and he did a nice job against a fine offense today, but given his difficult schedule and likely continued lack of bullpen and run support, he's probably never going to have much fantasy value.
Apr 3 - 5:27 PM

Astros manager Bo Porter said Tuesday that Philip Humber has all but secured a spot in the rotation.

Porter noted that Humber came into camp competing for a job and has done everything the Astros have asked him to do, including pitch well. The 30-year-old owns a sparkling 1.29 ERA and 0.64 WHIP in 14 innings this spring. But he's unlikely to be an impact starter in fantasy leagues.
Mar 19 - 9:57 PM

After coming out of the pen, Philip Humber allowed one hit over five scoreless innings Tuesday in the Astros' 9-4 defeat of the Marlins.

With the wind blowing out to left, the game's other eight pitchers combined to give up six homers today, making Humber's outing a bit more impressive. With a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings, he should have a rotation spot just about clinched now.
Mar 12 - 5:25 PM

Philip Humber blanked the Nationals for four innings in the Astros' 4-2 victory Thursday.

He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one. Humber was a pretty good bet to crack the Astros' rotation even before his strong start to the spring. He's allowed two runs in nine innings.
