Reds signed LHP Ron Mahay to a minor league contract.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Mahay pitched in the minors with the Diamondbacks and Cardinals last season. The 40-year-old left-hander has a 3.83 career ERA over 14 seasons in the major leagues.

Cardinals LHP Ron Mahay has elected to become a free agent.

The Cardinals signed the 40-year-old journeyman to a minor-league contract in early July, and he was quite effective in 11 innings of work for Triple-A Memphis, posting a 1.64 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. He could draw interest from teams looking for a lefty specialist after Arthur Rhodes' signing blocked his path to St. Louis.

Cardinals signed LHP Ron Mahay to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Memphis.

Mahay has been without a job since early May, when he was released by the Diamondbacks after posting a 10.45 ERA in 10 appearances. He could climb to the majors with St. Louis, given the ongoing struggles of lefties Trever Miller and Brian Tallet.

Diamondbacks released LHP Ron Mahay.

Mahay struggled to gain any traction at Triple-A after being signed to a minor league deal in early April, posting a 10.45 ERA over 10 outings. Turning 40 next month, we might have seen the last of him at the major league level.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Ron Mahay to a minor-league contract.

He's expected to spend a few days at Arizona's extended spring training before reporting to Triple-A Reno. Released by the Dodgers on March 26, Mahay posted a 3.44 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 34 innings for the Royals last season, holding lefties to a .219 average. His signing should put pressure on Joe Paterson.

Dodgers released LHP Ron Mahay.

Mahay wasn't going to make the team, so he asked for and was granted his release. The 39-year-old lefty had a decent 2010 season and should be able to catch on somewhere.

Dodgers signed LHP Ron Mahay to a minor league contract.

The deal is worth $900,000 if Mahay makes the big league roster and it also carries an invitation to spring training. As long as everything goes smoothly next month in Arizona and Mahay manages to stay healthy, he should be a member of the Dodgers' Opening Day bullpen. The 39-year-old held left-handed hitters to a .219/.239/.281 batting line in 2010.

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Dodgers have reached agreement with free agent left-hander Ron Mahay.

It's a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, where Mahay should be able to secure a lefty specialist gig. The 39-year-old finished with a strong 3.44 ERA and 25/8 K/BB ratio across 34 innings for the Twins in 2010 while holding left-handed hitters to a .219 batting average.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News mentions Ron Mahay as an "interesting lefty reliever possibility" for the Mets.

It makes some sense. Mahay is willing to do a low-cost, one-year contract coming back from shoulder surgery and although it was a different regime, he considered joining the Mets last offseason. The 39-year-old southpaw posted a 3.44 ERA and 25/8 K/BB ratio over 34 innings with the Twins this past season and held left-handed batters to a .219 batting average.

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox will meet with the representatives for free agent Ron Mahay.

The Red Sox are hoping to lock up a left-handed reliever at some point during the Winter Meetings. Mahay, 39, registered a 3.44 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 34 innings this year while holding left-handed batters to a .219/.239/.281 batting line. He would fit in quite well with Boston's bullpen.

Ron Mahay has decided to undergo surgery to repair a tear in the rotator cuff of his right shoulder.

Mahay was moved to the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday and is questionable for the start of the 2011 season. He turned in a 3.44 ERA, a 25/8 K/BB ratio and a 1.21 WHIP over 34 innings of relief in 2010.

Twins transferred LHP Ron Mahay to the 60-day disabled list.

This ends the 39-year-old's season and possibly his career. Mahay was the last replacement player in baseball (he crossed picket lines for the Red Sox in spring training in 1995), and started his career as an outfielder, but eventually carved out a little niche for himself by being able to consistently retire left-handed batters.

Ron Mahay is expected to get a second opinion on the torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder before deciding whether to have surgery.

"We'll let him get checked out by another doctor and let all of that take its place," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. Since the injury is to his non-pitching shoulder, Gardenhire wasn't ready to say whether the left-hander would be done for the season. Stay tuned.

Ron Mahay will likely miss the rest of the season due to a torn right rotator cuff.

He was diagnosed with the injury after undergoing an MRI on Monday. Mahay injured the shoulder while tumbling off the mound attempting to field a groundball on Saturday. The good news is that it's his non-throwing shoulder, but surgery would make his return unrealistic this season. The Twins could be in the market for a lefty reliever in the days ahead.
