Jeff Suppan is considering running for congress.
Suppan has struggled to attract interest from major league teams this winter and may run as a Republican for the Ventura County-based 26th District in California if he doesn't get an offer soon. The 38-year-old right-hander posted a 5.28 ERA in 30 2/3 innings last season with the Padres. Mar 21 - 10:41 AM

Jeff Suppan has elected free agency.

Suppan was designated for assignment by the Padres last week after posting a 5.28 ERA in six starts this season. The 37-year-old right-hander will evidently attempt to continue his career elsewhere.

Padres designated RHP Jeff Suppan for assignment.

The move clears a spot for catcher Yasmani Grandal on the 40-man roster. Suppan was knocked around for six runs over five innings on Monday and holds a 5.28 ERA in six starts this year. It's possible this is the end of the road for the 37-year-old right-hander. The Padres have yet to announce his replacement in the rotation for Sunday.

Jeff Suppan gave up six runs in five innings Monday in a no-decision versus the Cubs.

Suppan's tenure in San Diego's rotation might not last much longer. He's allowed 11 runs his last two times out, taking his ERA up to 5.28.

Jeff Suppan was shelled for eight hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Suppan struggled from start to finish against his former team, yielding three runs in the first inning and another two before being pulled in the bottom of the fifth. The veteran righty is simply not a fantasy option.

Jeff Suppan surrendered four runs and walked five in five innings against the Angels on Friday.

With a 0/5 K/BB ratio, it's pretty remarkable that Suppan managed to give up just the four runs. He probably would have gotten knocked out of the park by a hotter offense.

Jeff Suppan kept the party going in Sunday's loss to the Phillies, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits in six innings of work.

He struck out one and walked none. It looked like the jig might be up after Suppan allowed a leadoff home run to Jimmy Rollins, but he settled down to toss his third straight strong outing since joining the Padres' rotation on May 2. As suggested by his absurd 4/4 K/BB ratio through 16 innings, Suppan won't keep up at anywhere near the rate he's been going, but making half of his starts in Petco Park, he's very much a must own in NL-only leagues.

Jeff Suppan moved to 2-0 for the Padres after allowing one run in five innings Tuesday against the Rockies.

Five relievers combined to make a one-run lead stand up, giving Suppan the win. We'd still recommend shying away from Suppan in NL-only leagues, but he certainly has been a nice stopgap for the Padres so far.

Jeff Suppan picked up a win Wednesday in his first start since 2010, tossing five scoreless innings on four hits and two walks in a 5-0 victory over the Brewers.

It was hardly a clean effort, as Suppan twice escaped bases loaded situations, but the Padres will certainly take it. The 37-year-old veteran will presumably get at least one more start while filling in for Cory Luebke (elbow). It should come next week at home against the Rockies.

Padres purchased the contract of RHP Jeff Suppan from Triple-A Tucson.

He'll get the start Wednesday in place of Cory Luebke. Suppan, 37, hasn't pitched in the majors in a couple years and holds a 12.15 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in 6 2/3 innings this season at Tucson, so he can be avoided for fantasy purposes.
Wed, May 2, 2012 04:19:00 PM

Jeff Suppan will be called up by the Padres to pitch Wednesday afternoon against the Brewers.

Cory Luebke is being skipped because of tightness in his left elbow. Suppan, 37, has posted a rough 12.15 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in 6 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Tuscon and should be avoided like the plague in fantasy leagues.

Jeff Suppan (triceps) will throw a 30-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.

The veteran right-hander has been rehabbing in Arizona after suffering a triceps injury during spring training. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Tucson once he's healthy.

Padres reassigned RHP Jeff Suppan to minor league camp.

The Padres also reassigned right-handers Casey Kelly and Joe Wieland and Casey Kelly and first baseman-outfielder Matt Clark to minor league camp. Suppan, Kelly and Wieland are all expected to open the season in the rotation with Triple-A Tucson.
Mon, Apr 2, 2012 06:30:00 PM

Jeff Suppan suffered a triceps injury in his last start and is out indefinitely.

Suppan signed a minor league contract with the Padres the winter after spending the entire 2011 season at the Triple-A level. The 37-year-old right-hander will serve as insurance for the San Diego starting rotation.
Sat, Mar 24, 2012 02:06:00 PM

Padres signed RHP Jeff Suppan to a minor league contract.

He'll also get a spring training invite. Suppan didn't throw a pitch in the majors last season, but had a 4.78 ERA and 94/51 K/BB ratio over 165 2/3 innings with the Royals' Triple-A affiliate. The 37-year-old owns a 4.69 ERA over 16 seasons in the majors. He'll serve as insurance for the starting rotation.
