Miguel Cairo delivered a clutch RBI single that would stand as the winning run in the Reds' 2-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday in San Francisco.

Cairo finished the day 1-for-2 after entering in the fifth inning for Joey Votto. The veteran infielder is hitting just .140 with four RBI on the year and doesn't merit consideration in even the deepest of fantasy formats. Still, it was a very nice afternoon.

Miguel Cairo (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Friday at Low-A Dayton.

Cairo should be cleared to join the Reds after three or four rehab games. The veteran infielder has been on the disabled list since April 15 with a strained hamstring.

Miguel Cairo (hamstring) will go on a rehab assignment before returning.

There was some thought that the veteran would be activated on Tuesday, but the Reds will have him play a few games before returning. The Reds have a six-game road trip starting Friday, and he seems likely to join the team then unless he has a setback.

MLB.com's Mark Sheldon suggests that Miguel Cairo (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list Monday -- the first day he's eligible to return.

Cairo has been running and hitting for a week and hasn't reported any issues. The 38-year-old utilityman is 1-for-9 (.111) in four games this season. His return would likely send Todd Frazier back to the minors.

"I ran and hit the last two days and had no discomfort. It's just one day at a time right now," Cairo said. Cairo is eligible for activation Monday and hopes he'll be ready then, but it's not a guarantee.

Cairo was removed from Saturdays' game against the Nationals after doubling and scoring a run in the second inning. If the strain is severe at all, he could be placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Miguel Cairo underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder Friday.

He has appeared in just nine games this month due to the injury. Cairo, 37, batted .265/.330/.412 with eight homers, 33 RBI and a .742 OPS over 276 plate appearances this season. The veteran utility man is under contract for $1 million next season.

Dealing with a shoulder injury, Cairo has played only two full games in September. The 37-year-old is now batting .266 with a career-high seven home runs.

Miguel Cairo suffered only a bruise when he was hit on the left wrist by a pitch Friday.

Cairo jumped up and down in pain when he was hit by a Kyle McClellan pitch, but it turns out that it's not that bad and he's available to play. "It's just bruised," he said. "I might have overreacted."

Miguel Cairo (oblique) served as a defensive replacement on Monday night against the Rockies.

Cairo missed Sunday's game in Chicago due to mild soreness in his oblique. He should feel enough to take over starting third base duties by the middle of this week.
