Mets designated catcher Raul Casanova for assignment.
Casanova went 2-for-9 during his latest stint with the Mets. He's not a bad stopgap catcher, but next time the team wants a pinch-hitter, it should turn to one of the better options in Triple-A. Tue, Jun 10, 2008 06:01:00 PM

The Rays have purchased the contract of Raul Casanova from Triple-A Durham.

With both Dioner Navarro and Josh Paul hurting, having another catcher around is a good idea. Casanova flashed his power in his time with the Rays earlier this season. He hit .291 with five homers and 21 RBI for the Bulls, currently playing in the IL championship.

Devil Rays designated catcher Raul Casanova for assignment.

In 56 at-bats for the Rays, Casanova hit six homers, which is probably better than either Dioner Navarro or Josh Paul would do in 400 at-bats. Maybe someone else will want him as a backup, but we're not optimistic.
