Angels signed RHP Billy Buckner to a minor league contract.

It's not clear whether he'll be given a spring training invite. Buckner put up a 3.65 ERA over 27 starts in the Red Sox' minor league system this season but hasn't toed a major league rubber since 2010. He'll start the year at Triple-A.

Red Sox signed RHP Billy Buckner to a minor league contract.

We know what you're thinking, but no, there's no relation. Buckner, 28, had a 6.03 ERA over 109 innings last season with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate and owns an awful 6.25 ERA in 138 1/3 career major league innings. He has been assigned to minor league camp and will function as organization depth for Boston.

Rockies signed RHP Billy Buckner to a minor league contract.

Buckner has a 6.25 ERA in 138 1/3 career major league innings, including an 11.08 mark in 13 innings in 2010. He also posted a 6.25 ERA in 80 2/3 Triple-A innings. He's still just 27 but doesn't stand much of a chance to make the opening day roster.

Tigers released RHP Billy Buckner.

Buckner was acquired from the Diamondbacks last month in the Dontrelle Willis deal. He held an 11.08 ERA in three starts with the D-backs this season and wasn't much better at Triple-A Toledo after the trade, holding a 9.40 ERA over eight outings. Buckner had been a decent prospect at one time and is still just 26, so he'll catch on somewhere.

Tigers acquired RHP Billy Buckner from the Diamondbacks for LHP Dontrelle Willis and cash considerations.

They had to pay nearly all of Willis' $12 million contract in order to do it, but Buckner is a decent insurance policy for the starting rotation. The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-3 with an 11.08 ERA over his first three starts with the Diamondbacks this season and has a 6.25 ERA over 36 major league appearances (21 starts). He'll start his career with the Tigers in Triple-A Toledo.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Tigers have acquired right-hander Billy Buckner from the Diamondbacks for left-hander Dontrelle Willis.

And so, the teams ultimately decided to swap disappointing fifth starters. We're not sure how much money the Tigers will kick in, but Buckner is a better alternative than nothing. The 26-year-old right-hander is 0-3 with an 11.08 ERA over his first three starts this season, but showed some promise over his final six starts last season.

Billy Buckner was pounded for seven runs in four innings by the Giants on Saturday.

The Diamondbacks can't keep giving chances to Buckner, who has gone 0-3 with an 11.08 ERA since joining the rotation. He belongs in middle relief if he belongs in the majors at all.

Billy Buckner will get another start against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Buckner allowed two runs over five innings in Tuesday's 8-0 loss to the Marlins. He was better over his final six starts last season, but remember that he posted a 6.40 ERA over 16 games (13 starts) overall. He doesn't have a tremendous amount of upside, even in NL-only formats.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Billy Buckner from Triple-A Reno.

Buckner is scheduled to start on Tuesday against the Marlins, but should be avoided in most fantasy formats. He's posted a 3.53 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings this season at Triple-Reno.

Billy Buckner was roughed up again Wednesday, allowing five runs in 3 2/3 innings versus the White Sox.

He gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one. We doubt there's another rotation in baseball that Buckner would be a part of, but the Diamondbacks still might have room for him with Brandon Webb set to go on the DL. First, he will need to show some improvement next week. He currently has an 11.66 ERA in 14 2/3 innings.

Billy Buckner was torched for eight runs in two innings by the Royals on Friday.

With any luck, manager A.J. Hinch blacked out with the score 21-0 in the fifth and won’t even remember Buckner’s performance. Buckner had a spot to lose in the Arizona rotation, but we think he’s better suited to the bullpen if he belongs in the majors at all. Especially with Brandon Webb’s situation so uncertain, the Diamondbacks need to go get themselves another rotation option. The Tigers would probably eat some salary to move either Nate Robertson or Dontrelle Willis, and the Rangers’ Brandon McCarthy, while not a great fit in Chase Field, could be another potential upgrade.

Billy Buckner picked up a win over the Rangers by allowing two runs in four innings on Sunday.

Josh Hamilton had a homer and a double off him, but Buckner allowed just one other hit. With a 6.00 ERA to date, he hasn’t been very impressive this spring. Still, he appears very likely to start the season in the rotation with Brandon Webb hurt.

Billy Buckner surrendered two runs -- both coming on solo homers -- over three innings in his start versus the Reds on Tuesday.

Buckner never did have to pitch from the stretch; Jay Bruce and Ryan Hanigan homered off him, but he retired the other nine batters he faced. The Diamondbacks’ fifth starter hopeful has allowed four runs in five innings to date.

Billy Buckner allowed two runs in two innings Thursday in a loss to the Rockies.

Buckner struck out four, but he allowed three hits and a walk. The former Royals prospect entered the spring as the favorite to occupy the fifth spot in Arizona's rotation. Another possibility, Rodrigo Lopez, surrendered three runs in two innings of relief today.
