Mets signed C Raul Chavez to a minor league contract.
He'll get a spring training invite. Chavez spent all of the 2010 season at the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate, where he hit just .210/.260/.320 over 200 at-bats. The Mets are set at catcher with Josh Thole and Ronny Paulino, so Chavez will serve as depth at Triple-A, though he could make the opening day roster while Paulino serves the remainder of his suspension. Blue Jays re-signed catcher Raul Chavez to a minor league contract.

Chavez, 36, hit .258/.285/.346 in 2009 with two homers and 15 RBI in 159 at-bats. He should get a shot at the Jays' backup catching gig, as long as the organization doesn't find a more reliable option.

Blue Jays non-tendered catcher Raul Chavez.

Nice of the Jays to wait until mid-December to tell Chavez his services were no longer required. Unless, that is, they're just makign the move with the intention of re-signing him to a minor league deal. The defensive-minded 36-year-old will have a very difficult time landing a backup gig with several teams already having filled spots.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of catcher Raul Chavez from Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Jays weren't willing to go to J.P. Arencibia just yet, so Chavez will play behind Rod Barajas for at least the next couple of weeks and maybe for a couple of months. He won't get as much playing time as Michael Barrett was receiving.

Catcher Raul Chavez has refused his outright assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Chavez is now a minor league free agent and can sign on with any organization. Pirates GM Neal Huntington said he'd like to have the 35-year-old catcher back, especially with the loss of Ronny Paulino, but the team's catching situation is still just as crowded.

Raul Chavez went 1-for-3 with three RBI as the Pirates defeated the Astros on Wednesday night.

Chavez hit a two-run single and and also notched a sacrifice fly. The Pirates are reportedly considering keeping him instead of Ronny Paulino when Ryan Doumit comes back later this week, and tonight's effort may help his cause. He's hitting .241/.241/.310 on the season, and Paulino is hitting .218/.287/.318 with suspect defense.

Pirates purchases the contract of catcher Raul Chavez from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates signed C Raul Chavez, RHP T.J. Beam and INF-OF Jose Macias to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

The Pirates are just announcing some deals that were agreed to weeks ago. Chavez is strictly insurance against a couple of injuries to catchers.

Yankees reassigned C Raul Chavez, LHP Ben Kozlowski, INF Andy Cannizaro, INF Angel Chavez and OF Bronson Sardinha to minor league camp.

Chavez recovered quickly from a broken hand suffered in winter ball, but he still wasn't much of a factor in the competition to take over as Jorge Posada's backup. Either Wil Nieves or Todd Pratt will get the job.

The Yankees revealed that non-roster catcher Raul Chavez suffered a broken hand in winter ball and will be several weeks behind entering camp.

Yankees signed catcher Raul Chavez to a minor league contract.

As things stand now, Chavez, a .212/.253/.284 hitter in 405 major league at-bats, would contend with Wil Nieves for a job backing up Jorge Posada. However, the Yankees will almost certainly do better. The 33-year-old Chavez will probably play behind Nieves in Triple-A.

Orioles sent catcher Raul Chavez outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

He'll be eligible to become a free agent once he clears waivers. The Orioles could re-sign him to a minor league deal, but they'll likely want a superior backup for Ramon Hernandez.
