The Rockies have shown interest in free agents Todd Walker and Marcus Giles, according to the Rocky Mountain News.
The newspaper speculates that the team would likely offer only non-roster invites to spring training for both players. Walker may have to settle for that, but Giles figures to get a guaranteed deal somewhere. Thu, Dec 20, 2007 10:16:00 AM

Athletics released infielder Todd Walker.

Walker was designated for assignment five days ago. He could opt for retirement if no one wants to pick him up in the near future.

Athletics designated infielder Todd Walker for assignment.

Walker remains worthy of a roster spot, but the A's didn't need him as a backup second baseman and they're better off with Dan Johnson and Jack Cust at first base and DH, respectively. Walker hit just .271/.288/.292 in 48 at-bats.

Todd Walker went 0-for-4 as Oakland's designated hitter in Saturday's loss.

Walker is 8-for-35 with one extra-base hit, one RBI and one walk so far. Next time he starts at DH, Mike Piazza better be undergoing or performing an emergency surgery.

Todd Walker went 2-for-3 with a walk as the Athletics' first baseman Saturday in a 6-4 win over the Giants.

The A's have so far been cryptic about whether they'll carry Walker to begin the year. It's possible they could put both him and Erubiel Durazo on the roster initially if they don't mind going down to 11 pitchers.

Athletics signed second baseman Todd Walker to a minor league contract.

No word yet, but the A's could decide to go with Walker over Erubiel Durazo as their first baseman against right-handers. It'd likely be an upgrade defensively, even though Walker doesn't have a lot of experience at first. On offense, the A's would be losing quite a bit of upside, though since they don't really know what they'd get out of Durazo, they could try it anyway. There probably won't be room for both on the roster.

Padres released second baseman Todd Walker.

Since players can't be released strictly for financial reasons, Walker intends to challenge the move. However, the 33-year-old's .225/.262/.300 line in 40 at-bats gives the Padres a good argument that they made the move for baseball reasons. They'll have to pay Walker a quarter of the $3.95 million he was due this season. Walker should be earn another $1 million or so to act as a bench player elsewhere.

The Padres announced that infielder Todd Walker will be released on Wednesday.

Walker will only be owed a quarter of the $3.95 million he had been due to make this season. The Padres wanted to trade Walker, but his salary made that too difficult. The 33-year-old should quickly land a bench job elsewhere. There aren't any teams looking for starting second basemen, but his left-handed bat still makes him pretty useful.

The San Diego Union Tribune reports that the Padres may release Todd Walker prior to March 15 because they would only be required to pay him $658,000 of the $3.95 million he received in arbitration.

Walker is currently a bench player for San Diego and both sides have indicated that a trade might be for the best. The newspaper also reports that the player's union might protest such a release.

Todd Walker defeated the Padres in his arbitration case Wednesday and was awarded a salary of $3.95 million for 2007.

The Padres submitted an offer for $2.75 million. Walker has hinted that he wouldn't mind a trade, but for now he's slated to be a backup at first base, second base and third base.

Todd Walker said Monday that he's not worried about his playing time despite likely being in a reserve role behind Marcus Giles and Kevin Kouzmanoff.

"I'm not worried about my at-bats," Walker said. "Ultimately it comes down to being here with a great group of guys in a great organization. I wasn't shocked that they signed Marcus. Marcus is a great player, and a club should bring in as many great players as it can." Walker and the Padres are scheduled to go to arbitration Tuesday.

Free agent Todd Walker accepted the Padres' offer of arbitration, making him a signed player.

Walker will be the Padres' second baseman against right-handers unless the team can do better later on. The club will at least be on the lookout for a right-handed hitter who can platoon with him. The Tigers' Omar Infante might be an option.

Free agent Todd Walker will accept San Diego's offer of arbitration, CBS SportsLine.com is reporting.

Walker will be the favorite to act as the Padres' second baseman, though the team may yet seek an upgrade, perhaps to Ronnie Belliard. More than anything, Walker's decision allows the team to treat left field as its top priority.

According to MLB.com, free agent Todd Walker is likely to accept the Padres' offer or arbitration.

Having Walker in the fold wouldn't necessarily prevent the Padres from continuing to look for a second baseman, but it would allow them to focus more on left field. Walker would likely earn about $3 million next year if he accepts arbitration.

Todd Walker went 0-for-2 and committed two errors before being removed from Monday's game against the Giants.

One of Walker's errors helped the Giants get the only run of the game. That he's committed five errors in nine starts at third might begin to lead to less playing time.
