Jose Guillen has been training in his native Dominican Republic in order to make a comeback in MLB, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportesLosAngeles.com.
And he has apparently drawn interest from "at least a couple teams," despite not being close to game shape. Guillen didn't play at all last season, turns 36 years old in May and was being investigated by the feds in 2010 for an HGH shipment that was allegedly sent to his wife in California, so we would be surprised if any team thinks he's worth the trouble at this point. According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, Jose Guillen will retire if he doesn't get an offer in the next week.

Guillen is still looking for an opportunity as an outfielder/designated hitter, but let's just say we're not surprised he hasn't found a home. The 34-year-old is awful in the field and batted just .217 over the final 28 games of the regular season in 2010. He was left off the postseason roster by the Giants and also investigated by federal authorities regarding a shipment of HGH that was allegedly sent to his wife in California. It's highly unlikely he will get the chance to play his 15th season in the majors.

According to the New York Daily News, a shipment of nearly 50 pre-loaded syringes of HGH arranged by Jose Guillen to be sent to his San Francisco home in September was intercepted by DEA agents.

This isn't Guillen's first alleged brush with performance-enhancing drugs. In 2008 he was set to be suspended for 15 games after reportedly purchasing HGH, testosterone and other steroids but received amnesty for "past acts" as part of the Mitchell Report. Guillen was left off San Francisco's postseason roster when the original story broke, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Guillen was inactive because of a neck injury. Baseball is investigating and a suspension could be in the offing for Guillen.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jose Guillen was left off the postseason roster before it was known that he was connected to an investigation involving hGH shipments.

The Giants originally announced that Guillen was left off the roster for the NLDS because of a neck injury. "That decision was made before all this came out," Bochy said. "I told Jose that I felt he wasn’t 100 percent. Cody Ross was going to be out there." Bochy said he hasn’t spoken to Guillen since right before the team traveled to Atlanta for Game 3 of the NLDS on Oct. 10.

Craig Calcaterra of NBCSports.com reports that MLB never directed the Giants to leave Jose Guillen off the club's postseason roster.

Guillen is being investigated currently for ordering shipments of HGH to a Bay Area address that is registered to his wife. That investigation started before the playoffs and the New York Times reported Thursday that Guillen was not invited to play for the Giants in October because of his ties to the criminal activity. Apparently that's not true. Calcaterra's source says that Guillen was left off the Giants' postseason roster because of his poor play down the stretch and lack of versatility in the outfield. It makes far more sense.

Jose Guillen is being investigated by the DEA and Major League Baseball for ordering shipments of HGH during the 2010 season.

Guillen had boxes of the performance-enhancer sent to a Bay Area address that can be linked to his wife. He was also involved in PED investigations during the 2007 season, when it was discovered that he ordered over $19,000 of HGH from 2002-2005. All of this could lead to a 50-game suspension for the veteran outfielder and impending free agent.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Jose Guillen would be available should his team need an injury replacement during the NLCS.

Even though Guillen has apparently overcome the sore neck that cost him a place on the NLDS roster, the Giants stuck with the 25-man roster that got them past the Braves. That means no Barry Zito, either.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Jose Guillen was left off the Giants' NLDS roster due to a sore neck.

Guillen received an injection to alleviate pain in his neck last month, but he's obviously not 100 percent. In a series where every run will be crucial, it's probably best he was left off the roster, regardless of injury. Cody Ross or Nate Schierholtz will likely start in right field during the series, though Aaron Rowand could also start in center, moving Andres Torres to right.

Jose Guillen is not on the Giants' roster for the NLDS against the Braves.

Guillen is an awful outfielder and batted just .217 over the final 28 games of the season, so he won't be missed. Aaron Rowand, Travis Ishikawa and Edgar Renteria made it.

Jose Guillen homered and drove in six runs as the Giants beat the Brewers to ascend to first place in the National League West.

Guillen hit a grand slam off starter Chris Narveson in the first inning, then added a two-run single in the fifth. With the Padres losing to the Cardinals earlier in the day the Giants now lead the NL West by half a game. The Rockies are only a game back pending the outcome of their contest against the Dodgers this afternoon and the NL West could have three teams separated by half a game by day's end. Buckle up for a fun two weeks out west.

Jose Guillen went 3-for-3 and hit a two-run homer Thursday against the Dodgers.

Guillen, who didn't play Wednesday because of neck pain, hit his second homer in 27 games as a member of the Giants. The cortisone injection appears to have done him some good. After a quick start with his new team, he hit just .189/.205/.270 over the first 16 days of September.

Jose Guillen (neck) is back in the Giants' lineup Thursday.

Guillen was give a pain-killing in his sore neck Wednesday and did not play in Wednesday night's game against the Dodgers. He's just fine.

Jose Guillen was given a pain-killing injection in his neck Wednesday.

Guillen also underwent an MRI and is not in the Giants' lineup against the Dodgers. He could be sidelined for the next several games.

Jose Guillen drove in the tying and go-ahead runs with a single in the seventh inning as the Giants beat the Diamondbacks 9-7 on Sunday.

The Diamondbacks came back from a 5-2 deficit to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh. However, a single by Freddy Sanchez and a double by Aubrey Huff set the stage for Guillen to play hero. In 13 games since rejoining the National League Guillen is batting .372 with a homer and four RBI.

Jose Guillen is nursing a left quad injury that has slowed him on the bases and in the outfield.

It's the same injury that caused Guillen to miss a few games in July. "It's getting there," he said. "I've got to get in game shape. I've got to play every day. There's nothing wrong with my leg. I know I can run a lot better than this. It's something where I'm a little afraid. I've got to get mentally tough and let it go." Guillen has batted .400 in six games with his new team, so obviously this isn't anything to worry about unless the injury worsens.
