Phillies signed INF Ronnie Belliard to a minor league contract.

He'll report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 35-year-old was cut loose by the Yankees earlier this week after batting just .136 with one double and one RBI over 22 at-bats this spring. He might not be quality depth, but he gives the Phillies another option to fill in for Chase Utley at second base.

Yankees released INF Ronnie Belliard.

Belliard was in camp as a non-roster invitee. The 35-year-old batted just .136 with one double and one RBI over 22 at-bats this spring.

Ronnie Belliard went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts on Friday and is 1-for-12 this spring.

Belliard missed time with a calf strain and hasn't produced in limited playing time, so it seems doubtful that he'll make the Yankees. He'd be a nice insurance policy if he's willing to report to Triple-A.

Ronnie Belliard (calf) is back in the lineup Thursday.

Belliard has been sidelined since the first weekend of exhibition action with a calf strain. He's fallen behind Eric Chavez for a backup infielder job.

Ronnie Belliard will miss the next 10 days of camp due to a strain in his calf.

That is going to seriously hurt his chances of making the Yankees' big league roster, if he ever had a hope in the first place. Belliard inked a minor league contract with New York this winter and will probably have to settle for an assignment to Triple-A when camp breaks.

Ronnie Belliard was scratched from Sunday's spring exhibition game with a strained calf.

Belliard will probably be left to rest and rehab this entire week. He inked a minor league contract with the Yanks this winter and is in big league camp with a shot at earning a backup gig on the infield.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi could give Ronnie Belliard some reps at first base this spring.

The Yankees have Nick Swisher around as a backup to Mark Teixeira, but Girardi would prefer to leave Swisher in right field. Belliard has played 67 games at first over the last four seasons, so it's not as if it would be foreign territory for him. Jorge Posada and Eric Chavez are also available to fill in at first base if needed.

Yankees signed INF Ronnie Belliard to a minor league contract.

He'll get an invite to spring training, where he'll hope to earn $825,000 plus incentives as a utility player. Belliard's string of seasons with 10+ home runs ended last season at six, as he batted only .216/.295/.327 with two longballs in 162 at-bats for the Dodgers before being designated for assignment in September. He'll battle Ramiro Pena and Eduardo Nunes for a roster spot.

Dodgers designated INF Ronnie Belliard for assignment.

The Dodgers brought Belliard back as something of a contingency plan for second base. Fortunately, he wasn't needed. The 35-year-old infielder batted just .216/.295/.327 with two home runs and 19 RBI over 162 at-bats with the Dodgers this season.

Ronnie Belliard missed a cycle by a single and drove in four runs to lead the Dodgers to a 10-2 win over the Pirates on Thursday.

After losing the first two games of the series, Dodgers manager Joe Torre emptied his bench today and gave Belliard, Reed Johnson, Garret Anderson, Jamey Carroll and Brad Ausmus their first starts versus Paul Maholm. The offense responded with 10 runs, with Belliard and Johnson leading the way. Belliard needs to be in the lineup against most lefties, whether it's in place of Blake DeWitt or James Loney.

Ronnie Belliard weighed in at 208 pounds Thursday, thus finalizing his one-year, $825,000 contract with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers had worries about Belliard's conditioning last season, so they installed a weight requirement into his new contract this offseason. He had to check in under 209 pounds at some point during the spring and got the weigh-in over with Thursday. "I was never worried about that," he said. "... and I'm going to continue to work to try to get to 202, 200 pounds."

Ronnie Belliard says he currently weighs around 210-211 pounds.

This is significant because in order for Belliard's contract with the Dodgers to become guaranteed, he will have to check in at 209 pounds at some point during spring training. If he makes weight, he will take home an $825,00 base salary, with another $250,000 in possible incentives based on plate appearances.

Ronnie Belliard's one-year, $825,000 contract with the Dodgers is not guaranteed, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times.

Belliard's agent, according to Hernandez, denied that the contract would become guaranteed if Belliard reported to camp at 209 pounds or less, but did say that the club has requested that he do so. If he makes the team, Belliard could take home another $250,000 with incentives based on plate appearances.

Dodgers signed 2B Ronnie Belliard to a one-year, $825,000 contract.

He could take home another $250,000 with incentives based on plate appearances. Belliard, who turns 35 in April, thrived after being acquired by the Dodgers last August, ultimately taking the starting second base job away from Orlando Hudson. Blake DeWitt could have a say at second base before all is said and done, but he better be prepared for another tripe aboard the Albuquerque-to-Los Angeles Express.
