The Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have talked with Richie Sexson.
Aubrey Huff doesn't really need a platoon partner, but the Orioles could view Sexson as an alternative to Lou Montanez at designated hitter. He's no longer a starting-caliber player, but Sexson remains an asset against left-handed pitching and will likely be cheap. Wed, Dec 31, 2008 11:51:00 AM

Yankees designated infielder Richie Sexson for assignment.

Sexson has hit .221/.321/.381 in 96 games this season, including a .250/.371/.393 line with the Yankees. He has a 992 OPS against lefties, though, so it's possible he could find a suitor.

Yankees signed first baseman Richie Sexson.

For all his struggles overall this season Sexson is hitting .344 against lefties and still figures to be a productive platoon bat. He'll give Jason Giambi days off against southpaws and possibly see a random start or two against right-handers, but likely won't get enough at-bats to be a fantasy asset barring a hot start. Sexson's arrival hurts the fantasy stock of Wilson Betemit, who has started 16 games at first base for the Yankees.
Fri, Jul 18, 2008 03:19:00 PM reports that the Yankees have reached a tentative agreement with Richie Sexson.

Sexson, who is hitting .344 against lefties this season, will likely start at first against southpaws for New York. He's posted a 1.045 OPS in 61 at-bats against lefties this year, but his OPS was under .800 in each of the previous two seasons. Still, the Yankees will get him for the minimum and it's a huge upgrade over Wilson Betemit, who figures to lose the most playing time in the deal.

Mariners released first baseman Richie Sexson.

The move was rumored to be on the verge of taking place three weeks ago and since then Sexson has hit .213/.391/.383 in 16 games, which actually qualifies as one of his better stretches this season. If this is the start of the team's second attempt at cleaning house Jose Vidro should probably be next, although knowing the Mariners he's more likely to take over for Sexson as the new starting first baseman. In the final season of a four-year contract, the Mariners ended up paying Sexson $50 million to hit .244/.334/.474 in 509 games.

With rumors swirling that the Mariners are on the verge of cutting Richie Sexson, the Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that the team isn't "ready to pull the trigger on anything at the moment."

Sexson started Wednesday, going 1-for-4 to raise his batting average to .220. There's little need to have Sexson play out the final half-season of his contract on a last-place team, but the Mariners would probably just replace him with Miguel Cairo or Kenji Johjima at first base anyway.

The Daily Herald reports that the Mariners plan on releasing Richie Sexson.

Interim GM Lee Pelekoudas held meetings with club executives on Tuesday to discuss the final 3 1/2 months of the season, and according to one person familiar with the planned moves, Sexson will be let go within days. Miguel Cairo is Sexson's backup, but he's actually a downgrade. Kenji Johjima has been putting in work at first following the news that Jeff Clement will now catch most games.

Mariners fired GM Bill Bavasi.

Finally. The team finished 322-395 in four and a half seasons under his watchful eye. We'd list Bavasi's poor decisions, but it'd probably overload the Rotoworld servers. The best indication of his over-spending and poor roster development is that the team currently has the worst record in baseball with a top-10 payroll over $100 million. Vice President/Associate General Manager Lee Pelekoudas will take over as the interim General Manager.

Mariners fired hitting coach Jeff Pentland.

The Mariners have the game's worst record despite a top-10 payroll, and it's obviously Pentland's fault. He'll know better next time not to overpay for Richie Sexson, Carlos Silva, Miguel Batista and Jarrod Washburn. Also, he never should have traded for Jose Vidro and put together a ridiculous bench that included Miguel Cairo and Willie Bloomquist. And that's glossing over his biggest mistake of all: he saw two lesbians kissing at Safeco Field and did absolutely nothing to stop them. Lee Elia, his replacement, is very capable of putting the fans in their place when he needs to.

Richie Sexson finished 3-for-4 with two RBI Friday as the Mariners demolished the Red Sox.

Jose Vidro and Ichiro Suzuki each drove in a pair of runs. Sexson's hits were all singles, but the game raised his average from .200 to .213. He's the ultimate disappointment, but five days on the bench might have lit a fire in him. Still, we'd be shocked to see that average climb above .250 at any point this season.

Richie Sexson returned to the lineup Monday after five games off.

Sitting Sexson isn't necessarily a bad move, but replacing him at first base with Miguel Cairo is laughable. Sexson on his worst day is still a better hitter than Cairo, who hasn't posted an OPS above 650 since 2004.

Richie Sexson went 0-for-4 as the Mariners lost yet again on Friday.

Sexson hasn't had multiple hits in a game since May 1 or multiple RBI in a game since April 20. He does have 11 multiple strikeout games on the season, though. If only there were five more of him, they could run Seattle on wind power.

Richie Sexson went 0-for-4 Friday in his return from a five-game suspension.

Sexson looked particularly impotent in a strikeout versus Heath Bell in the eighth inning. He's hitting .195, and he hasn't had a multi-RBI game since April 20.

Richie Sexson's suspended was reduced from six games to five, and he'll begin serving the penalty tonight.

It actually is a loss for the Mariners, as they'll have Miguel Cairo start at first base tonight. Sexson will be eligible to return on Friday.

MLB suspended first baseman Richie Sexson six games for charging the mound Thursday against the Rangers.

Sexson will appeal, but figures to end up sitting out at least 3-4 games after flinging his helmet at Kason Gabbard. He's expected to be in the lineup Friday versus the White Sox.
