According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News, Eric Milton underwent microdiskectomy on his lower back on Tuesday.

The surgery, performed by Dr. Robert Watkins, was successful. Milton had disk herniation removed from the back. He won't resume baseball activities for at least three months, which effectively shuts him down for the year. Milton was a nice comeback story for the Dodgers this season, going 2-1 with a 3.80 ERA and 20/6 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings, spanning five starts.

Don't expect Eric Milton to return anytime soon, according to MLB.com's Ken Gurnick.

Milton was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 28, but Gurnick reports that Milton was awkwardly walking around the Los Angeles clubhouse after Thursday night's game.

Dodgers placed LHP Eric Milton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 28, with a back injury.

This is twice now Milton has gone down at the perfect time for the Dodgers. Of course, he's not really hurt, at least not anymore than usual. The Dodgers just felt his roster spot was better used on another bat.

Eric Milton will remain as the Dodgers fifth starter, but won't start again until July 11.

The Dodgers schedule allows for manager Joe Torre to roll with a four man rotation for the next two weeks. In the meantime, Milton will work out of the bullpen as a long reliever. Hiroki Kuroda will now pitch Friday.

Dodgers activated RHP Eric Milton from the 15-day disabled list.

Milton will get the nod Saturday against the Mariners and is expected to stick around in the starting rotation, bumping Jeff Weaver back to the bullpen. The 33-year-old Milton was 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 18 2/3 innings before he was sidelined. Cory Wade was optioned earlier to make room.

Eric Milton tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings Sunday for Single-A Inland Empire.

Milton was placed on the disabled list June 6 with back tightness and is expected to rejoin the Dodgers' rotation this weekend. His return should bump Jeff Weaver from the starting rotation conversation.

Dodgers placed LHP Eric Milton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 6, with back tightness.

There's no actual injury here. The Dodgers have Monday and Thursday off, so a fifth starter wasn't going to be needed again anytime soon. Eric Stults will likely be back to claim the spot when it comes up again.

Eric Milton yielded two runs in 5 1/3 innings Sunday in a win over the Cubs.

Reed Johnson, seemingligly the only Cub hitting recently, doubled in both runs. Milton figured to head back to the pen or to the minors with Hiroki Kuroda coming back, but the decision to place Eric Stults on the DL means he'll stay in the rotation for now. He's not worth picking up in NL-only leagues.

Eric Milton held the Rockies to a single run over five innings in a 7-1 win on Tuesday.

A solid second start for Milton. It's his first major league win since August 8, 2006 as a member of the Reds -- a span of nearly three years. He scattered seven hits while fanning three and not walking a batter in the win. The only run scored on a fifth-inning Clint Barmes solo home run. He'll get the Cubs next.

Dodgers recalled LHP Eric Milton from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Milton will start against the Marlins Saturday. He is 3-2 in the minors this season with a 2.83 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 35 innings. He's worth keeping an eye on.

Eric Milton is scheduled to start Saturday against the Marlins.

Milton has pieced together a 2.83 ERA and 27/6 K/BB ratio in seven starts at the Triple-A level. He's a risk in the majors, but NL-only leaguers might want to throw him on some sort of watch list.

Eric Milton was torched for eight runs in 2 1/3 innings by the Giants on Wednesday.

Three straight ugly appearances have brought an end to Milton's hopes of winning a spot. Travis Ishikawa and Andres Torres homered off him in this one.

Eric Milton was hit hard in his relief appearance Thursday, giving up six runs in 2 2/3 innings against the Rockies.

Milton has likely pitched himself out of the rotation competition with three lousy outings in a row. If he's willing to go to Triple-A for the first month or two, perhaps he'll be able to help the Dodgers as a stopgap this summer.

Eric Milton gave up eight runs -- one earned -- in three innings out of the pen Friday against the Royals.

Milton's own error led to most of the mayhem, but he wasn't any good on the mound, either. Chris Lubanski homered off him, and he failed to strike out anyone. The ugly performance should mean talk about him being the favorite to take over as the Dodgers' fifth starter will be halted for now.
