According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Cardinals have agreed to terms with RHP Cliff Politte on a minor league contract.

The 34-year-old Politte missed the entire 2007 season following shoulder surgery and hasn't been effective since going 7-1 with a 2.00 ERA for the White Sox in 2005. "I know the organization and I know I'll be given a chance to win a job," Politte said. "I also know that I could come out and be dominant in spring and still need to go spend a month in Triple-A. I understand that. I hope to go to spring training and make the best impression I can."

Cliff Politte, who underwent rotator cuff surgery last year, will miss the rest of the season because his recovery has not progressed as quickly as he had hoped.

Recovery time for rotator cuff surgery usually is 12-18 months, and it has been only 10 months since Politte's operation. ``He had set a goal of pitching in 2007 and didn't make it,'' trainer Lonnie Soloff said.

Cliff Politte (rotator cuff) started and pitched two-thirds of an inning Saturday night for Double-A Akron against Portland.

In his first rehab appearance, Politte allowed one run on one hit and two walks. Manager Eric Wedge said, "We have to give this some time. His progress has been pretty steady. We're not necessarily counting on him helping us this year, but it's something we'd like to see happen."

Cliff Politte (rotator cuff surgery) is scheduled to throw an inning for Double-A Akron on Saturday.

Politte will likely remain in the minors when his rehab is finished. He could provide depth to the Indians' bullpen after the All-Star break.

Cliff Politte, recovering from right shoulder surgery, was reassigned to the minors Thursday.

Politte, who had surgery in August, will rehab in Cleveland. "We hope he can help us at sometime this season," said manager Eric Wedge. "He's just been rehabbing, but we've seen him be as good as he can be [with Chicago]."

Indians signed RHP Cliff Politte to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

If we were a reliver looking to break back into the majors, the Indians would probably be the last team we'd choose to sign with. The club is stacked with veteran arms now and has a bunch of younger relievers that are going to be worthy of oppportunities before midseason. Politte had surgery in August to repair a torn rotator cuff, so he's not going to be ready to compete for a job this spring anyway. He'll be a better bet for 2008 than he is for this year.

Free agent Cliff Politte had rotator cuff surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery for the start of next year.

Politte said a few teams were interested in signing him after the White Sox released him, but the pain in his left shoulder would just not go away. He finished the year with an 8.70 ERA.

Sean Tracey will be called up to replace him. Politte gave up four runs today and had allowed 12 runs in 9 1/3 innings since coming off the disabled list last month. With his velocity still down, he's incapable of helping a major league team right now. Still, there will likely be some interest in him.
