Accoridng to the Chicago Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer, the A's met Wednesday with Sidney Ponson's agent.
It's almost too humorous to beleive. Ponson hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009, when he posted a 7.36 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 58 2/3 innings for the Royals. It's doubtful the A's will give him a chance. Wed, Nov 16, 2011 04:40:00 PM

Royals released RHP Sidney Ponson.

He's now free to sign with anyone, but given his 7.36 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and extensive off-field troubles, it's hard to imagine why any organization would take a shot on the 32-year-old right-hander. At the very least, it's hard to envision him pitching in the majors again in 2009.

Royals designated RHP Sidney Ponson for assignment.

It's about time. Was this Ponson's final stint in the major leagues? We can only hope. He finishes up the season (provided no other GMs sign him) with a 7.36 ERA in 58 2/3 innings on the year. If he so chooses, the Royals will offer him a spot at Triple-A Omaha. Kyle Davies will be recalled to take Ponson's rotation spot and start Wednesday. Davies has 4-2 record and a 2.14 ERA in eight starts in Omaha since his optioning June 20.

Sidney Ponson surrendered six runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Angels.

Exactly what the Royals should have expected from him. There's no point to continue running him out there, but the Royals may choose to do so anyway, . He's 1-6 with a 7.63 ERA.

Royals activated RHP Sidney Ponson from the 15-day disabled list.

Ponson, taking the roster spot of the injured Gil Meche, is scheduled to start on Monday against the Angels. Ponson hasn't made an appearance for the Royals since late May. He went 1-5 with a 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings for the Royals earlier this year. Ponson was better in the minors, putting up a 2.18 ERA in six rehab starts at Triple-A Omaha. Steer clear in fantasy.

Sidney Ponson tested positive for a stimulant at the WBC, and has been banned from international competition for two years.

Ponson will not be suspended by Major League Baseball, but he's been replaced as scheduled starter this Saturday by Bruce Chen. It isn't known if this is a result of the suspension.

Sidney Ponson worked two scoreless innings Wednesday at Triple-A Omaha.

Ponson was placed on the disabled list on June 2, retroactive to May 30, after posting a 1-5 record, 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings. It sounds like he'll be ready to rock by the end of June, but we're not so sure that's good news.

Sidney Ponson threw long toss Wednesday for a second consecutive day and reported no discomfort in his strained right elbow.

Ponson was placed on the disabled list on June 2, retroactive to May 30, after posting a 1-5 record, 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 43 1/3 innings. He may be ready to return to the starting rotation by the end of June, but would the Royals really want him to? Look for him to spend a few weeks "rehabbing" on the Triple-A level.

Sidney Ponson (elbow) threw Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list last week.

He made 45 throws from flat ground and will throw off a mound Thursday if all goes well. He might not have a roster spot waiting for him by the time he's ready to pitch again.

Royals placed RHP Sidney Ponson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 30, with a strained right elbow.

No major surprise here. Ponson has been dreadful in May and now sports a 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP after giving up four earned runs in 1/3 of an inning in his last appearance on Friday. With Ponson hitting the DL and Coco Crisp on the bereavement list, Joakim Soria and Tony Pena Jr. rejoin the active roster.

With the promotion of Luke Hochevar, Sidney Ponson will head to the bullpen.

We're hoping Ponson wasn't on fantasy rosters in the first place, but he has absolutely zero value as a long reliever. He took the move in stride after posting a 1-4 record, 5.91 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in six starts.

Sidney Ponson held the Mariners to one earned run over 7 1/3 innings Wednesday to earn his first win of the season.

If this was a "make or break start," Sir Sid sure pulled out all the stops. He scattered eight hits and managed to strike out a batter while lowering his ERA from 7.16 to 5.91. He'll take a 1-4 record on the road next week against the A's.

Royals manager Trey Hillman isn't ready to call Sidney Ponson's next outing a "make or break" start.

"If we gave him a little run support in two of his starts, I don’t think this would be as much of a topic as it has become," Hillman said. The numbers would seem to disagree. Ponson has posted a 7.16 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in his five starts while compiling an 0-4 record. Luke Hochevar, who boasts a 5-0 record and a 1.13 ERA at Triple-A Omaha, is just a phone call away.

Sidney Ponson, struggling at 0-4 with a 7.16 ERA, will get another start to turn things around.

Manager Trey Hillman said that after looking at video, they believe they have found what's wrong with Ponson. Ponson will start Wednesday against Seattle. Meanwhile, Luke Hochevar is 5-0 with a 1.13 ERA for Triple-A. Maybe if Hochevar was knighted, the Royals would feel more comfortable releasing Ponson.

Sidney Ponson was hit hard for seven runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 7-5 loss to the Twins on Friday.

Ponson gave up nine hits, including homers to Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer, while striking out one and walking one. He fell to 0-4 with the loss and his ERA sits at 7.16. Lefties are absolutely owning him thus far. He's not a fantasy option.
