Wilson last played in the majors in 2007 and spent time with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. Preston Wilson, who lasted played in the majors in May 2007, has signed on with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.

Wilson was shut down by knee surgery in 2007, but it was a surprise that he never resurfaced, even on a minor league deal, last year. He's just 34, so there is the chance that he could make it back to the majors at some point.

Preston Wilson underwent surgery on his right knee Tuesday and will be out the rest of the season.

The Cardinals weren't going to benefit from his presence anyway. Wilson hit .219/.265/.313 in 64 at-bats before going on the disabled list.

Preston Wilson is in Colorado on Monday to have Dr. Richard Steadman look at his knee.

Steadman will examine Wilson's sore knee to determine if a cleanup procedure or more serious microfracture surgery is necessary. If he has microfracture surgery, he will be finished for the season.

The Cardinals are growing increasingly worried that Preston Wilson might not return this season as Wilson is all but committed to undergoing surgery on his right knee.

Wilson has swelling in the knee and treatment has done nothing to alleviate the condition. "He's clearly at the point where he needs to consider something surgical," Dr. George Paletta said. Wilson planned to consult with noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard Steadman soon for a second opinion.

Preston Wilson (sore knee) hasn't swung a bat since going on the disabled list on May 6.

Wilson is still feeling pain in the knee and there is no timetable for the start of his rehab.

Cardinals placed outfielder Preston Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right knee.

The Cardinals could gain from going from Wilson to Ryan Ludwick in a reserve role. Wilson followed up an ugly spring with a .219/.265/.313 line, one homer and five RBI in 64 at-bats to start the year. Maybe a healthier knee will help, but it's quite possible he's done as a useful player.

The Cardinals are expected to place Preston Wilson (knee) on the 15-day disabled list in the very near future.

Wilson had his right knee drained after Saturday's 13-0 loss. He has experienced discomfort in the joint for much of the season and did not play Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee because of stiffness. Wilson is hitting .222 with one home run and five RBI. He has made 14 starts, all in right field.

Preston Wilson went 0-for-3 on Saturday to finish the spring at .192/.250/.269 in 52 at-bats.

Wilson is very lucky to still have a job after finishing with no homers, three RBI and 16 strikeouts this spring. Even with Juan Encarnacion out, he should be limited to playing only against left-handers early on.

Preston Wilson doubled three times and scored three runs Tuesday against the Dodgers.

He had delivered just one extra-base hit this spring. Wilson hasn't impressed the Cardinals with his effort or his performance, but he'll probably be on the team anyway over the more deserving John Rodriguez. Perhaps they'll be room for both with Juan Encarnacion on the DL.

Preston Wilson made his spring debut in center field Friday.

Manager Tony La Russa said he's "interested to see how he looks (in center field) this year." Wilson will probably get some playing time in all three outfield positions.

Preston Wilson rejoined the starting lineup for Monday's game and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts as a designated hitter.

Wilson missed the previous two days with biceps tenderness.

Preston Wilson was held out of Saturday's game with biceps tenderness.

He's expected to miss a few days with the injury.

Cardinals re-signed outfielder Preston Wilson to a one-year, $1 million contract.

He can make an extra $500,000 in incentives. Wilson still has some value as a fourth outfielder, but the Cardinals might have been better off without him. The 32-year-old hit .243/.300/.486 in 111 at-bats after joining St. Louis last year. He then hit .200 with two RBI in 35 at-bats in he playoffs. The smart strategy would be to use him only against lefties in a platoon with Chris Duncan. However, he'll probably also get some at-bats against righties, especially when Jim Edmonds is hurt. So Taguchi seems unlikely to have value in NL-only leagues with Wilson back.

The Cardinals are talking with free agent Preston Wilson, probably about a one-year deal.

Wilson hit .243/.300/.486 in 111 at-bats after joining the Cardinals last season and then .200 with two RBI in 35 at-bats in the playoffs. St. Louis could bring him back as a fourth outfielder. Giving him any of Chris Duncan's playing time against righties would be a bad idea.
