Martinez reportedly suffered the injury on an awkward slide into home plate. Wilson Valdez has come on to replace him.

Mets recalled 2B Ramon Martinez from Triple-A Buffalo.

Martinez replaced injured Alex Cora in the lineup and started at shortstop Monday with Jose Reyes out with calf tendinitis. Reyes is expected back any day now, which means Martinez will become the team's utility infielder. He is batting .290 in the minors this season and batted .250 in 16 big league at-bats last year.

Ramon Martinez drove in three runs against the Rockies on Sunday, including a two-run single to put the Dodgers ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Martinez hit an RBI single in the second, then delivered a two-run single off Jeremy Affeldt as the Dodgers rallied from a one-run deficit in the eighth. The two-run base hit allowed Scott Proctor to pick up a win in relief despite the fact that he had already been charged with a blown save. Takashi Saito pitched a scoreless ninth for his 33rd save of the season.

Manager Grady Little said that for Martinez, the assignment would be "like going to spring training again." Martinez said that he recently visited a back specialist and that his back is feeling "pretty good."

"She got some joints moving," Martinez said. "Everything was kind of stuck." Martinez took some swings in the batting cage Monday and hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of the week.
