Rockies signed INF Chris Nelson to a minor league contract.

Nelson, a 30-year-old former first-round draft pick, batted just .234/.291/.372 with four home runs and 29 RBI in 73 games last season at the Triple-A level. Colorado selected him ninth overall back in 2004, so this is a homecoming of sorts. But he's doubtful to have any sort of impact with the major league club.

Brewers released INF Chris Nelson.

Nelson was signed just over a month ago to a minor league deal after the Phillies cut him loose but is no longer needed after Matt Dominguez was claimed off waivers. He's hit just .202/.256/.290 at the Triple-A level this season.

The 29-year-old slashed .278/.328/.352 over 16 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley before being released by the Phillies on Thursday. He'll report to Triple-A Colorado Springs for the time being but should get a chance with the Brewers before long.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Brewers are close to signing Chris Nelson to a minor league contract.

Nelson was released by the Phillies on Friday. There have been rumblings that he may be pursuing an opportunity in Korea, though it looks as though there is interest in him stateside as well.

The 29-year-old utility man appeared in 27 games for the Padres during the 2014 season, slashing .233/.296/.274 with seven RBI in 73 at-bats. His versatility should allow him to compete for a reserve role with the Phillies.

A source tells MLB Daily Dish's Chris Cotillo that Chris Nelson won't opt out of his minor league contract with the Reds.

Nelson had an opt-out clause if he wasn't in the major leagues by May 6. The infielder is hitting .243/.316/.340 with Triple-A Louisville this season. He's got another opt-out option in 30 days.
