Angels claimed INF Chris Nelson off waivers from the Yankees.
Nelson was DFA'd by the Yankees earlier this week and batted just .222 (8-for-36) with two doubles and two RBI in 10 games since being traded. He should provide depth at third base behind Alberto Callaspo with the Angels. Scott Cousins has been dropped from the 40-man roster in a corresponding move. May 18 - 2:18 PM

Yankees designated INF Chris Nelson for assignment.

He was cleared to make room for David Adams on the active roster. Nelson was acquired from the Rockies two weeks ago and batted .222 (8-for-36) with two doubles and two RBI in 10 games with the club. He should draw some interest on waivers.

Yankees acquired INF Chris Nelson from the Rockies in exchange for cash or player to be named later.

Nelson is a solid fit in New York with both Alex Rodriguez and Kevin Youkilis on the disabled list. He figures to see most of the starts at third base while Youk is on the DL, moving Jayson Nix back into a utility role. Nelson can also back up at second base and at shortstop in a pinch.
May 1 - 10:27 PM

Andy McCullough of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the Yankees have expressed interest in Chris Nelson.

But McCullough thinks the Yankees will wait until Nelson clears waivers before attempting to acquire him. The 27-year-old infielder was designated for assignment by Colorado on Sunday to clear a roster spot for top prospect Nolan Arenado. Nelson owns a .279/.322/.416 career batting line at the major league level.

Rockies designated 3B Chris Nelson for assignment.

Nelson batted just .242 with no home runs and also played poor defense to seal his fate. It's not surprising that the Rockies are making the move to Nolan Arenado, but it's a little surprising that they designated Nelson for assignment. He should draw interest on waivers.
Apr 28 - 8:34 AM

Chris Nelson will open the 2013 regular season as the Rockies' primary third baseman.

The Rox were considering bringing third base prospect Nolan Arenado north with them this season, but they have now officially decided against that. Nelson hit .301/.352/.458 with nine home runs and 53 RBI in 111 games last year. He'll carry good NL-only value.
Mar 28 - 1:37 PM

Chris Nelson went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBI against the Padres on Friday.

Nolan Arenado is still probably the future at third base for the Rockies, but with the way Nelson has played, he deserves first crack at the job next year. He's hit a little better than Jordan Pacheco this year, and he's pretty obviously the superior defender of the two.

Chris Nelson went 3-for-5 with an RBI versus the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Nelson collected six hits in the series, raising his average to .279. If he keeps swinging like this, he should be the Rockies' primary third baseman after Troy Tulowitzki returns. Josh Rutledge presumably will play second base.

Chris Nelson singled in Tyler Colvin in the top of the eighth as the Rockies beat the Mets 1-0 on Thursday.

The Mets scored a total of five runs in getting swept in a four-game series. At home. By a team that was 46-73 going in. Bobby Parnell took the loss today after Colvin tripled to lead off the eighth and was immediately singled in by Nelson. Nelson, who is getting starts with Josh Rutledge sidelined, is hitting .308 with nine RBI in 39 at-bats this month.

Rockies activated INF Chris Nelson from the 15-day disabled list.

Nelson has been out since mid-July after experiencing an irregular heartbeat, but the condition is now behind him. The 26-year-old infielder will return in a part-time role at third base behind Jordan Pacheco. He had a .735 OPS in 185 plate appearances prior to hitting the shelf.

Chris Nelson (heart) went 0-for-3 with an RBI ground out Tuesday in his first rehab game with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

It was his first game action since undergoing an emergency procedure in mid-July to shock his heartbeat back into rhythm. Fortunately the scary episode is now behind him. The 26-year-old infielder should rejoin the Rockies at some point this month.

Chris Nelson (heart) was cleared to begin working out on Wednesday evening by a cardiologist.

Nelson will do light cardio work for about five days before progressing to baseball-related activities. He had to undergo an emergency procedure in mid-July to shock his heartbeat back into rhythm and has been on the disabled list since. The 26-year-old infielder should be activated at some point before the end of August.

Rockies placed INF Chris Nelson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 16, with an irregular heartbeat.

Nelson had a successful procedure Tuesday to shock his heart back into rhythm and is expected to be OK, but the Rockies didn't want to take any chances. He could be back when first eligible. "Due to the fact that [his heart] was not able to go back into rhythm on its own, there's at least six or seven days of very limited activity he'll have," manager Jim Tracy said. "As a result, we had to put him on the disabled list."

Nelson had his heart shocked back into rhythm on Monday night and is now being monitored. The Rockies seem likely to put him on the 15-day disabled to be safe.
