Bruce Chen picked up a victory in Tuesday's Cactus League outing against the Mariners despite allowing four runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings.
The veteran southpaw did manage to record five strikeouts on the day without issuing a walk, though he did serve up a pair of home runs. He'll take his 6.08 ERA down to Triple-A Columbus where he'll function as rotational depth in the event that the Indians suffer a multitude of injuries in their rotation. Mar 31 - 10:14 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona said that Bruce Chen has indicated that he will remain with the organization.

Chen signed a minor league deal with the Indians over the winter and was recently informed that he will not make the Opening Day roster. However, the 37-year-old southpaw will apparently stick around in the minors while waiting for an opportunity. The Indians have given him the right to opt out of his contract if an MLB job becomes available.

Bruce Chen was on the hook for three runs in four innings Saturday against the Dodgers.

The 37-year-old Chen was scored upon in each of his final three innings, allowing seven hits and a walk in total with no strikeouts. Chen had a rough go of things with the Royals last season, finishing with a 7.45 ERA in 48 1/3 innings before being released in SEptember. He doesn't have much of a chance at making the Indians' 25-man roster.

Bruce Chen pitched two perfect innings in the Indians' 9-3 win against the Reds on Thursday.

Chen, vying for a big league role with the Indians, whiffed three batters in the process. The 37-year-old left-hander posted a 7.45 ERA in 48 1/3 innings for the Royals last year before he was released. It isn't very likely he makes the Opening Day roster, but a productive spring could lead to something later in the season.
Mar 5 - 6:59 PM

Indians signed LHP Bruce Chen to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Chen, 37, was useful at times during his tenure with the Royals but wound up posting a 7.45 ERA and 1.76 WHIP for them in 2014 before being released. The left-hander will earn $1 million if he makes the big league roster with another $1 million available in incentives. He's a long shot to make any sort of impact in 2015.
Feb 16 - 10:29 PM

Royals released LHP Bruce Chen.

This could be the end of the line for the 37-year-old southpaw who posted a horrifying 7.45 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 36/16 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings on the season.

Royals designated LHP Bruce Chen for assignment.

Chen gets the boot after being pummeled for six runs in an extra-innings loss to the Twins on Thursday. The left-hander had been used sparingly since returning from the DL, so the move isn't terribly surprising. He'll pass through waivers easily given his $3.25 million salary.

Bruce Chen allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings in Sunday's loss to the Indians.

Chen took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning but proceeded to allow six runs over the next two-plus innings of work. Jason Vargas continues to inch closer to being activated, meaning Chen's days in the rotation are limited. He owns a 6.42 ERA and 1.67 WHIP on the year.

Bruce Chen held the White Sox to one run over five innings in a win Tuesday.

Chen's only mistake was a home run by Adam Dunn, but the left-hander limited the Sox to four hits and no runs over the rest of his time on the mound. It was his first win since April 19 and just his second win overall. Chen has filled in admirably in Jason Vargas' absence, but with Vargas nearing a return Chen will soon fade back into fantasy irrelevance.

Bruce Chen allowed two runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings of a no-decision against the Tigers on Sunday.

Chen, who's filling in for Jason Vargas as he recovers from an appendectomy, struck out two without walking a batter on the day. He owns a 6.46 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through 30 2/3 innings as a spot starter and long reliever.

Royals activated LHP Bruce Chen from the 60-day disabled list.

Chen has been out since late April because of a back injury and did not pitch well on his minor league rehab assignment. The left-hander will work in a long relief role.

Royals transferred LHP Bruce Chen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Bruce Chen (back) is expected to need two more rehab starts before being activated from the disabled list.

Chen allowed two runs on eight hits over three innings in his first rehab outing with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday. He's being stretched out as a starter, but there's no guarantee he'll return as a member of the rotation.

Bruce Chen (back) will make a minor league rehab start Tuesday will Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Chen, out since late April with a bulging disk in his lower back, is scheduled to throw 45 pitches. He figures to return in the next couple of weeks, but he might do so in the bullpen.

Bruce Chen (back) will be cleared for a rehab assignment if he gets through a bullpen session Sunday with no issues.

Chen has already thrown a simulated game and live batting practice this week. It's not clear how many rehab starts he'll need, but he's close to returning. However, it could be as a reliever.
