Mark DeRosa came off the bench to hit his second homer in two days Monday versus the Rays.

DeRosa has three homers in 40 at-bats this year after hitting a total of one in three injury-filled seasons from 2010-12. The Blue Jays aren't likely to suddenly start playing him regularly -- his body can't handle it anyway -- but they'll probably look for more ways to start squeezing him in. It's not like Adam Lind is doing much of anything as a DH.

The veteran utilityman was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run but is still batting just .211 with a .763 OPS in 16 games this season. He is not fantasy-relevant.

He started at third base and went 2-for-3 with a home run. DeRosa missed two games this week due to back soreness, but the injury was never a major concern.

Blue Jays signed INF/OF Mark DeRosa to a one-year, $750,000 contract.

The deal includes a club option for 2014. It's surprising to see DeRosa get a guaranteed contract, as the 37-year-old was bothered by injuries again last year and batted just .188 with zero homers in 101 plate appearances. Assuming he can stay off the disabled list, he'll function as a utility player in Toronto.

The Marlins are interested in Mark DeRosa, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

DeRosa told reporters back in mid-October that he was considering retirement, but he has apparently changed his mind. The 37-year-old was limited to 48 games in 2012 with the Nationals because of injuries. He would presumably serve as a utilityman for the Marlins.

DeRosa was limited to 48 games due to injuries and hasn't been given any indication that the Nationals will bring him back. At this stage, DeRosa won't be given a guaranteed contract, but he could look to compete for a roster spot next season as a spring training invite.

The Nationals haven't made an official announcement, but this is an expected move. Manager Davey Johnson plans on using four starters during the postseason, so Lannan is the odd man out. DeRosa was limited to 48 games due to injury.

DeRosa managed to avoid a rehab assignment and will be used in a part-time role with the Nationals. The oft-injured veteran is returning to a .152/.288/.212 batting line in 81 plate appearances.

Nationals placed OF Mark DeRosa on the disabled list, retroactive to August 5, with a strained groin.

The brittle 37-year-old has managed to log on 81 plate appearances with the Nationals this year due to a bevy of maladies. Unfortunately, he leaves behind an awful .152/.288/.212 batting line. This could be the end of the line for the 15-year veteran, barring a return when rosters expand next month.

DeRosa has been sidelined since the end of April due to an oblique strain. The 37-year-old returns to an awful .081/.227/.081 batting line across 44 plate appearances. He should function as a right-handed bat off the bench and could give Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) a breather at third base on occasion. Fellow utility man Xavier Nady (wrist) was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding roster move.
